Tips to Help you Pack Correctly

Packing to move can be a daunting experience no matter where you move to but if you follow these tips it will make the task seem not as daunting. It does not matter if you are moving yourself or hiring a professional moving service, packing correctly is crucial to making the move less tiresome and less stressful. One important thing to do once you know you are moving is to de-clutter your home. This means taking everything that you do not need, use any longer, or wear anymore and getting rid of it. You can give it to someone in need, donate it, throw it away, or have a yard sale. By doing this you will have less to pack.

As soon as you know when you are going to move grab some packing boxes. You can buy expensive boxes made especially for moving or get some from your local grocery or restaurant. Each day start packing at least two or more boxes so you do not have all the packing to do a week from move day. Pacing your packing will help you stay organized and the job will not seem so overwhelming. Just make sure that you are only packing things that you will not need on a daily basis.

Make sure that when you pack you are doing it room by room. Do not mix two or three rooms together in one box, as this will make extra work when you start to unpack. If you are packing little things or knick-knacks pack them in a smaller box so they do not get broken or lost in the larger boxes.

On each box mark the room that the contents in the box go in along with a general description of what is in the box. For example, if you are looking for the coffee maker, you will not have to go through all the kitchen boxes, or boxes in general if they are not marked, to find the coffee maker. You could also put different colored dot stickers on the boxes so it will be easier to see at a glance which room they go into. At your new home, hang the list of what each dot means on the entrance wall for easy access. Also if the box contains fragile items make sure the box is clearly marked fragile.

Do not overfill your boxes and make them too heavy to carry when moving them.

You can also pay extra and have the professional movers pack your stuff for you.
