2018 márciusának végén Erion Veliaj, Tirana polgármestere Magyarországra érkezett. A hivatalos látogatás célja az volt, hogy újra felvegyék a kapcsolatot Budapest Főváros Önkormányzatával. A találkozó során Tarlós Istvánnal, Budapest főpolgármesterével megvitatták a két város közötti együttműködés lehetőségeit. Bu-dapest főpolgármestere meghívást kapott Tiranába – az ottani Hunyadi utcában (Rruga Janos Hunyadi) zajló munkák végeztével –, az utca felavatására. Erre a különleges eseményre elkíséri a Bu-dapesti Kereskedelmi és Iparkamara elnöke is.

Erion Veliaj és őexc. Arian Spasse, Albánia magyarországi nagy-követének másik fontos programpontja Budapest Gellért-hegyi föld alatti ivóvíztárolójának megtekintése volt, amit prof. Gruber Józsefről neveztek el. A Fővárosi Vízművek központjában a veze-tőséggel való találkozó során Tirana polgármestere átvehette a ti-ranai ivóvíz- és szennyvízszolgáltatás középtávú fejlesztési prog-ramjának első vázlatát, amit magyar szakemberek dolgoztak ki az albán–magyar szerződésnek az értelmében.

Erion Veliaj további programjai közt szerepelt még a találkozó az Ovi-Sport Közhasznú Alapítvány képviselőivel, melynek során megbeszélést folytattak a tiranai iskolák labdarúgópályáinak épí-téséről. A tervek szerint a következő tiranai önkormányzati láto-gatás Magyarországon érinti majd a komáromi BYD üzemmel való együttműködés lehetőségeiről szóló tanulmányt és értékelést is. A gyár az elektromos buszok és kamionok gyártására specia-lizálódott.

At the end of March 2018 Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana arrived in Hungary. The purpose of the official visit was the intention to re-establish the contacts with the municipality of Budapest. During the meeting with István Tarlós, Mayor of Budapest they discussed the opportunities for cooperation between the two cities. An invita-tion to Tirana was conveyed to the Mayor of Budapest on the oc-casion of the inauguration of Hunyadi Street (Rruga Janos Huny-adi), taking place after finishing the ongoing works of its refurbish-ing. Attending this special event, he will be accompanied by the Chair of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce, as well.

Another important program of Veliaj and H.E. Arian Spasse, Ambassador of Albania to Hungary was the visit of Budapest's main underground potable water reservoir on Gellért Hill, named after Prof. József Gruber. In the course of the meeting with the manage-ment of Budapest Waterworks at their headquarters the Mayor of Tirana received the first draft of the Master-plan of Tirana mid-term development program to improve potable and waste water service coverage of the city, elaborated by Hungarian specialists, according to the contract between the Albanian and Hungarian sides.

The Agenda of Veliaj in Budapest included a meeting with the representatives of Ovi-sport Foundation and talks on the construc-tion of soccer fields in the schools of Tirana.

It is planned that the next visit of the Tirana municipality de-legation to Hungary will comprise the study and evaluation of a possible cooperation with the BYD plant in Komarom, specialized in electric bus and truck manufacturing.
