Dear Students, Parents and Caregivers,

PB/BOP SQUASH TOURNAMENTOn Friday 25th May the T.I.S. Squash Team competed in the BOP/PB Intermediate Squash Champs which was held for the first time at the Susan Devoy Squash and Fitness Centre in Tauranga. Our goal was to retain the title that we have won for the previous two years. The team consisted of 6 players, Taylor Clarke Rm 2, Eden Pou Rm 27, Jack Revington Rm 20, Robin Yang Rm 19, Hugh Yang Rm 30 and Mikaia House Rm 26. The team got off to a good start with all the players winning their first games.

Individual Highlights on the Day:Robin Yang Rm 19! ! 1st Y8 BoyJack Revington Rm 20! 2nd Y8 BoyTaylor Clarke Rm 2!! 4th Y8 Girl

These results combined with the rest of the team was enough for our school to retain the overall winning school title for a third year in a row. The competition proved a great season start as the students build toward the NZCT AIMS GAMES in September. A great result which we are extremely proud of.

On Friday 1 June, a team of 10 students went to the Taupo for the PB/BOP Intermediate Mountain Bike Challenge. The conditions were very good - sunny, hot and dry. The track was a different course to previous years, less technical but it required more strength. We had great results with Jack Wilson Rm 36 coming 1st and Theo Wright Rm 37 3rd in the individual boys final. Lachlan Haycock Rm 29, Alex Newlove Rm 42, Riley Kirk Rm 34 and Bryn Fredheim Rm 27 also making the boys final and finishing in the top 12.

Kaylee Mudgway Rm 2 placed 2nd and Brie McLean 4th in the individual girls final. We also defended the overall teams event title we won last year for the first time ever with Jack, Theo, Lachlan, Bryn and Kaylee in the winning team. Matthew Torrey Rm 41 and Mikaia House Rm 26 were both 4th in their heats and unlucky not to make the final. Thank you to all the parents who assisted with transport and supported us on the day.

NZCT AIMS GAMES - 9 SEPTEMBER - 14 SEPTEMBER

Although the NZCT AIMS GAMES are just over 3 months away, this event is a major highlight on our Sporting Calendar. We field teams in as many events as possible and are eager to get our students in top condition and well drilled before the tournament. Training squads will get underway this term and trials are taking place. Therefore it is imperative that students listen to notices and ask questions. This year there are 16 Sporting Codes making up the 2012 AIMS GAMES with the introduction of Rugby League. Other codes are Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Gymsports, Hockey, Indoor Bowls, Multisport, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, and Waterpolo. Last year we had over 210 students competing and we ‘topped’ the table by winning 5 cups and 49 medals. For information about this tournament go to www.nzaimsgames.co.nz

This year there is a record number of schools - 151 with 2 basketball teams coming from Australia, the competition is going to be very fierce. The organisers are predicting over 5,800 competitors this year!

BILLETS! BILLETS! BILLETS!FAMILIES REQUIRED

SUNDAY 9 SEPTEMBER – FRIDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2012

NZCT AIMS GAMES – BILLETS FROM SOUTH ISLANDWe have been approached again from Christchurch Intermediate Schools to host sporting students who are competing in the NZCT AIMS GAMES. We have helped out these schools in the past and wish to continue assisting them as it is hugely expensive for them to travel to this National Sporting Event. Billeting would be from Sunday 9th September – Friday 14th September. Once at school their team would make their own travel arrangements for the day with team mini-vans.

Chisnalwood Intermediate have approx. 36 students. They have a netball team, Rugby 7’s team, football team, 2 squash players and a swimmer. So if you’re up for a new experience that week, where you’ll:

* Meet and get to know students from the South Island* Can provide a bed, meals and a safe family home for the students* Get them to school each day where they will make their own travel arrangements then, we would love to hear from you!
