Introduction…
• The following pieces showcase my abilities to work with the CAD program, personal design skills, visual merchandising skills, and my research skills– CAD Designs – Personal Design Collection– TH Internship – Anna Wintour Research
CAD Fabric Designs…
• The following Computer Aided Designs (CAD) were derived and inspired by unattractive fabric swatches and re-created to look appealing on a garment.
• This project displays my ability to bring together components and establish something new that is more “attractive” to the human eye.
Purple Paradise • This dress was an influence
from the parrot feathers• The feathers were then
traced with the pen tool and strategically placed together to recreate new shapes for the swatch design
• The colors were also changed so that they made more of an impression
Under the Sea • This dress was inspired by
the starfish shape in the following ocean photograph
• The contrast between the pink and turquoise makes a subtle attractive background, and makes the starfish of various sizes stand out
Sunset Hollywood• This dress was an
inspiration from the snowflake fabric featured on the bottom left.
• Individual shapes were brought together in order to recreate a new shape and pattern
• The colors were also altered to be more vibrant and stand out
Anchor’s Away• This dress was an influence
from the children’s fabric located below
• The anchors were recreated in a more mature design appropriate for an older clientele
• The colors and background design were also altered as to be more appealing
Personal Design Collection…• The following collections were inspired by
Dior’s couture collections • Many of his pieces were whimsical and
feminine with details that included puffs, gathers, and many layers
• I took my own approach on these influences and created the following four lines
Girls, Ages 3-5…• For the girls collection, I
wanted to convey the feeling that they are miniature adults, that are fashion conscious.
• The collection consists of bright girly colors, layers, ruffles, and child-like prints (ice-cream cones, and swirls)
Teenagers…• The teenager collection is even
more sophisticated looking than the young girls collection
• The color scheme is darker and more appropriate for Fall
• I began to focus more on the garments looking like one whole collective piece through color selection and details (puffed sleeves, and flowers)
Evening Dresses…• The evening dress collection
has the darkest color scheme out of all the collections, and incorporates a lot of black
• I believe that black is an extremely staple color and we see it continuously returning year after year
• Many of the dresses are flattering to a woman’s figure as well as feminine and chic (pearl and diamond patterns)
Intimates…
• For the intimates collection, my goal was to create feminine pieces that weren’t necessarily practical to wear, but that you would want to wear
• Many flowers, lips, bows, and beading
Tommy Hilfiger Internship…• The following photos were taken during my
internship at Tommy Hilfiger NYC during the summer of 2008
• Each display that is featured was personally put together by myself, or with another individual
• Every display had particular rules and regulations in order to be presented correctly
Favorite Things, Fall 2008…
• Polo shirts must be stacked opposites in order to achieve a balance on the wall
• Colors must me strategically placed in order to look visually pleasing
• Sleeves must be rolled up the “TH way”
Summer Shorts, 2008…• Shorts must be
strategically placed so they look visually pleasing (not all colors together, not all prints together)
• They must hang or be stacked according to size (smallest on top, gradually getting larger)
Favorite Things, Fall 2008…
• Favorite things collection must all be folded appropriately and placed in correct spots.
• Mannequins must be wearing visually pleasing clothing (that fits snuggly) which makes the consumer want to stop, look, and buy
Fall 2008 Menswear…
• Menswear must visually please the eye and follow correct layout
• Placement of color and printed garments is an important integration and deciding factor on how the display looks
Favorite Things, Fall 2008…
• Pants/chinos must be placed strategically as well
• They must be sized • Top pant must be
folded open exposing Ithaca stripes
• Crotch seam must be outward and not in-between pant legs
Intimates, Fall 2008…
• Underwear must be sized and categorized (thong, panty, boy short)
• Garments must also be grouped by color
• Tags must be folded into garment
Anna Wintour Research…• Anna Wintour was born on
November 3, 1949, in London, England
• She is the daughter of Charles Wintour, the former Editor of the Evening Standard
• She started her career in 1970 working in the fashion department at Harpers and Queen in London
Getting Started…• 6 years later she joined its
sister New York publication Harper’s Bazaar as its fashion editor
• Anna was named creative director of American Vogue in 1983
• British Vogue then hired her back as Editor-in-Chief for 2 years
• In 1988 she rejoined American Vogue as their Editor-In-Chief and has been there ever since
Achievements…• Anna has helped raised over 10 million dollars for AIDS charities
since 1990• She has two children named Charles and Katherine, with her former
husband David Schaffer • She remarried in 2004 to J. Shelby Bryan, her current husband • She is now based in Manhattan, NY and lives a prestigious work and
home life • Anna was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British
Empire) in the 2008 Queen’s Birthday honors list for her services to British journalism and British fashion in the USA
• Recently, on April 22, 2010, Anna was formally inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors Hall of Fame during the National Magazine Awards held at Lincoln Center in NYC
• She was the 25th editor to be honored
Getting Involved…• After 9/11 she organized the sale of specially designed t-shirts
to benefit a Twin Towers fund and spearheaded a PR campaign to get people shopping again
• Last year Anna got Vogue to contribute money to open up beauty salons in Kabul, creating jobs for newly liberated Afghan women.
• The story was featured in that months issue of Vogue • Recently Anna starred in the movie The September Issue, which
debuted numerous well known designers and a glimpse into her life as one of the most well known editors in the fashion industry
