1. At the I . P. our group , ~ch was the Lead Group , took a h ading of 220° Mag. The target area was plainly visible from the I . P. due to the bombin of the preTious groups prec eding our wing. Immediately icking up the target area in the telescope , I egan killing th drift . Aa w did not xpeot , or see , any flak , no e T&Ii ve action was used. Sy tne tinte th dri.f't wa.s killed , the

At th instant the indices et, I s lvoed my bo bs nd at the same ti e signaled the avigator to flash a continoua creen li ht with the dlia Lamp .
I watched th bomba all the way to the ground and saw th t they had hit short of the target.
2. I c fi re out no reason why +h bombs hit short , as I was synchronized in a manner I considered very good, and at the same ti e , I w • ai ing for a spot o er th tar et . In oheokin the data put into the bombsight both before and after ftBo bs Awn~, I could find no error .

PILOT'S STATEMENT:
Upon checking superchargers before takeoff they were found inoperative. Airplane was taxied ba~k to squadron where repairs were made. Took off at 9:15 but after flying around for aboutt~ehours they were unable to contact Group, resulting in their returning to base.
INSPECTION OF AIRCRAFT OR EQUIPMENT REVEAL THE FOLLOWING DEFECTS OR MALFUNCTION:
Upon checking aircraft it was noted that ground wire to main junction box of electronic superchargers had been severed by photographic department at installation of camera in ca mera well before flight.
