The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation – following

the example of Jesus Christ in His service to those in need –

assists faith-based and private schools in providing quality,

affordable and accessible educational opportunities for

any economically disadvantaged family within the St. Louis

region by generating financial assistance in the form of

scholarships from local and national funding sources.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMANNow more than ever the mission of the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation is the most effective program you can support for the educational future of St. Louis’ underserved children. As you page through this report, when you visit one of our schools or perhaps attend a fundraiser, I know that you will be inspired and encouraged by the children and the people – teachers, mentors and donors – who make a transformational difference in their lives.

The families we support are living in poverty and struggling more than ever but thanks to you and your generosity they have HOPE and OPPORTUNITY. They are hopeful about their children’s future because of the quality education they are receiving as a recipient of a Today and Tomorrow scholarship. They know that the opportunity to choose a parochial or private elementary school increases their child’s chance to succeed in life regardless of racial, ethnic, religious or educational background. 93% of recipients are accepted into college preparatory high schools, 84% attended college preparatory high schools, 100% graduate from high school and, of those, 100% go on to post secondary education. Hope for the future of our community resides in the 3,398 scholarship students, their classmates and schools.

Through your generous partnership, the efforts of the students, and the commitment of so many teachers, principals and parents children are studying and succeeding in safe, nurturing, faith based, academically challenging environments. On behalf of the Today and Tomorrow kids, please keep the momentum going through your many good deeds and actions to ensure children will continue to have access to a high quality education and a world of new possibilities.

With gratitude,

Kevin M. ShortChairman

HEATHER MAUPINParentMy husband and I have been married for eighteen years, and together we have twelve children. Six are biological children, and six are adopted. They range in age from sixteen to two years old. We used to homeschool, but our kids have so many different personalities, we could no longer meet all of their educational needs. But the Today and Tomorrow Foundation has completely changed our family. We are able to provide them with this wonderful education and we are able to enjoy our children in a different way, since we are no longer homeschooling them. We are Presbyterian, and our children are being educated by Baptists, funded by Catholics! It’s the perfect example of the Body of Christ.

The community at Tower Grove Christian Academy is wonderful. The parents are very committed and the teachers are equally committed. The headmaster, Mr. Gregory, took a personal interest in our fifteen year old son. He understood some of Malachi’s challenges. Mr. Gregory believes in Malachi and is constantly pushing him forward. They have a really sweet relationship. My kids have all been given a really beautiful, strong foundation from their school.

My husband and I have a goal for our kids to love other people and to love the Lord. We just want them to think critically and problem solve and use the resources around them in whatever they do. These kids are shaped daily by being able to attend a school concerned with their well being. They are becoming leaders and active members of their communities. We tell our kids that this is a gift, that they should not take it for granted. They are very aware that this is a blessing. They feel that they are given a voice that matters.

The donors are a push for my kids too – the fact that other people are willing to say that they are worth all of this means a lot.

“My school feels like a community. It feels like one, big family. We all know each other.”

DEANNA JENKINSParentI’m a single mother and a policewoman, and for me it’s almost like my son, Kendal’s school is another parent. The staff and the teachers at Tower Grove Christian Academy foster a true Christian environment. Without the Today and Tomorrow Foundation we really would not have had this opportunity.

Everyone at Tower Grove is friendly and everyone knows each other. It is a small, helpful and loving community. One of Kendal’s teachers, Ms. Sinks, has been there for thirty-four years. She’s very firm, but the kids love her. She’s so dedicated. I’ve seen her there from open to close. I’m so happy that Today and Tomorrow is giving Kendal the opportunity to attend such a safe school.

Kendal is nine years old and he wants to become either a firefighter or a dancer. I hope that he one day is able to do some type of service and give back to our country. I just want him to be able to give back. I try to demonstrate this for him through my work as a policewoman, but also by doing things with my son’s classroom and attending any event or fundraiser I can for his school.

To the donors I’d just like to say thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It’s been really great. Today and Tomorrow is giving him the opportunity to attend a private school in a small, Christian, loving environment.

KATHY BURTONGrandparentI am the grandmother of a thirteen year old and a fourteen year old. Haley has lived with me since she was not quite two weeks old, and Skye came to me when she was about two years old. The Today and Tomorrow Foundation has given my granddaughters the opportunity to have a Christ based education. Today and Tomorrow really is the reason they are able to attend Catholic schools. They’ve just been surrounded by good, loving people.

We’ve met a lot of families who have gone through the same struggles as we do. Obviously our situation is a little different since Haley and Skye are my grandchildren, but from the first day we were welcomed and nobody treated them differently because they didn’t have their birth parents in their lives. We’ve found a good support system. Haley is in special education and her teachers have been amazing. Catholic schools have given her that one on one attention that she needed. It’s pushed her to become an independent and goal driven fourteen year old girl.

Today and Tomorrow has given my girls an opportunity that I never thought they would have. It’s been amazing. Without the foundation I would not have been able to put these girls into Catholic schools. They got that faith based education that I really wanted for them. Skye really wants to be a veterinarian or a vet tech, and Haley changes her mind everyday! But I just want them to be successful in whatever they do. I try to teach them that you don’t have to be just like everyone else, just be yourself and you’ll do just fine.

I’d like to thank the donors to the foundation more than anything. I just really hope they keep doing what they’re doing because they truly change lives.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a privilege (to attend Catholic schools), I’d say it’s more like a blessing.”
