Dear Families,

On Monday the children shared their OT Lesson with Miss Terri. Miss Terri led the children through the different exercises; lummi sticks, therabands, pompoms, and yoga. Next the children chose a center to explore. During this time Miss Terri had the opportunity to work with small groups or with individual children on specific skills. When this portion was finished the children are to cool down to the song Grandpa’s Farm. This is a great way to start our week!

On Tuesday the children were able to attend a special concert put on by Miss Carole! They were curious about the change in our schedule and were not sure what to expect as we walked down the hallway. They were pleasantly surprised and quickly joined Miss Carole in singing the songs! What a fun day! Language Lessonrelays the traditional “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” song, with Pete the Cat visiting a farm and seeing a variety of farm animals.  We discussed where Pete the Cat was, as well as all the animals he saw on the farm, and the sounds they make (Illinois Learning and Development Standards, Learning Standards: Demonstrates understanding through age-appropriate responses).  The kids had a great time singing along as I read the story.  After this story, we discussed categories and how some animals live on the farm, and some live in the zoo.  We then sorted farm animals and zoo animals.  See if you child can tell you about any farm animals that we talked about today! On Thursday the children in both classes were able to check out a book from the ELC Library. The morning class checks out their books from our classroom while the afternoon class is able to check out their books while visiting the ELC Library. When finished choosing a book, the morning class worked on activities at the table and the afternoon class explored the different material available in the library. They were really surprised to see a rabbit visiting the library! They discovered his name is Oreo! (Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards: Language Arts: With teacher assistance discuss illustrations in books and make personal connections to the pictures and story.)

On Friday the children were able to take home another vocabulary book. Pleaseremember to read these books with your child, look at the pictures, look at the words and try to use the vocabulary words with them during some of your conversations. (Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards: Language Arts: Recognize the difference between print and pictures.) Please remember that the Early Learning Center’s instructional focus is -”Hand in hand, we learnnew words together.” THANKS!!

We are ready for another great week of school!

On Friday the children in both classes shared Fun Friday with Mrs. Burk’s class. While in our room the children were able to “jazz” up some Easter Eggs using paint and sparkles! They concentrated as they worked and were so proud of their finished egg! (Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards: The Arts: Use creative arts as an avenue for self-expression.) At the end of the day we all met in the gym for even more shared time! What a great way to end the week!
