Mitch Longo launched his fourth home run of the season to lead off the boom of the first, and it was all the offense that the Lynchburg pitching staff would need. Jared Robinson gave up the only hit of the ballgame in the eighth inning, while working 1.2 scoreless, and James Karinchak earned his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. DEJA-VU: The Hillcats began the second half in nearly idencal fashion to how they began the season on April 5. On each occasion the Hillcats won 1-0, doing so last night against Myrtle Beach, and opening day against Down East. REMEMBER THE NAME: Zach Plesac faces the Hillcats tonight for the second me this season. In the first meeng on May 6, Plesac fired a complete game shutout in a 4-0 Hillcats win. Plesac allowed just two hits and faced one over the minimum. Plesac needed just 74 pitches to accomplish the feat, and threw 55 of them for strikes. ALL-STARS ALIGN: Three Lynchburg Hillcats represented the North Division All-Star team in the Mid-Season Classic Tuesday. Conner Capel, and Sam Hentges received the recognion for the first me in their careers, While Dalbert Siri was named an All-Star for the second me. All three players represented well in Zebulon, as Capel went 2--for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Siri and Hentges each tossed a scoreless inning. FIRST HALF STRUGGLES: Lynchburg finished the first half of the season with a 29-38 record, marking their worst first half since 2010, when the club went 29-41. The Hillcats hit just .236 as a team and only bashed 25 home runs, the lowest mark in the Carolina League. While in the division tle race for the majority of the first half, Lynchburg lost 16 of their first 21 games, and ended up finishing last in the Northern Division. SCOUTING THE BIRDS: The Myrtle Beach Pelicans finished the first half with a 34-36 record. Aſter beginning the season with a franchise-worst 3-12 start, Myrtle Beach won 15 of 17 games to get back into the Southern Division race from 5/23-6/10. However, the Cubs affiliate dropped seven of their final eight games. The club struggled offensively during that final stretch, averaging just 2.1 runs per game. Throughout the first half, the Pelicans ranked next-to-last in runs per game (3.9) home runs (34) and RBI (240). Myrtle Beach also has commied the most errors in the league with 85. FIRST ONE WINS: One major point of emphasis this season for Lynchburg has been to score the first run of the ballgame. When the Hillcats plate the first run, they are 24-13. When the opponent scores first, Lynchburg is just 6-25 this season. CHAK HIM OUT : James Karinchak has been nearly perfect since being called up to the Hillcats on May 3, picking up his sixth save of the season Thursdau. The Right-hander tossed his first 13 innings without allowing a run unl finally giving one up for the first me in a Hillcats uniform on June 17. He has struck out 26, while allowing just 18 base runners. Combined with his me in Lake County this season, Karinchak has recorded 46 strikeouts in 26.1 innings, while opponents are hing just .180 against him. A 9th round pick out of Bryant in 2017, Karinchak boasts an ERA of 0.60 this season. He was a starng pitcher in college and for half of his first pro season last year, but has made the transion to the bullpen. SUPER SAM: Starng pitcher Sam Hentges has been on a roll. The leſt-hander has not allowed a run in his last two starts. He has logged 12.2 consecuve scoreless innings, which is the most for a Hillcats pitcher this season. Two starts ago against Frederick on 6/11, Hentges went 6.2 IP, seng a new career-high. Hentges is the Hillcats second-highest rated prospect at No. 17 and is finally healthy aſter elbow trouble sidelined him to just 11 games in 2017. ROAD WOES: The Hillcats concluded the first half with a 12-22 road record, and have now lost nine straight games away from City Stadium. Lynchburg has dropped the opening game of a road series in all but one of their overnight trips. The Hillcats are 4-0 on the road against the Salem Red Sox, but just 8-22 against all other Carolina League opponents. SIRI-OUSLY?: Dalbert Siri has been a key piece at the back end of the bullpen this season for Lynchburg. Siri, signed by the Indians as an internaonal free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2014, has gone 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA in 18 oungs out of the Hillcats bullpen. The 22-year-old right-hander has also notched three saves, and is averaging over one strikeout-per-inning with 30 punch outs in 21.2 frames. Dang back to April 25, Siri has allowed just two earned runs over 16 innings of work, good for a 1.13 ERA. FIRST HALF ROLLER COASTER RIDE: The Hillcats have enjoyed high peaks and suffered through low valleys throughout the season. They won 8 of 10 games April 16-26, hing .262 and posng an ERA of 3.07. They followed it up however by losing 9 of their next 11 games from April 27-May, hing .205 with a 5.59 ERA. Lynchburg would then win 8 of their next 9 from May 9-20, hing .340 as a team with 6 home runs. The Hillcats dropped 14 of 17, from May 21-June 14, dropping three straight series, including five in a row to the Keys. TOP-30 IN LYNCHBURG: Conner Capel (No. 12), Sam Hentges (No. 17), Logan Ice (No. 21), Mitch Longo (No. 27) and Eli Morgan (No. 28) are all Hillcats players that are ranked on the Indians Top-30 prospect list.. Capel, an outfielder, baed .246 with 22 HR and 61 RBI in 119 games for the Single-A Lake County Captains last season. Hentges, a leſt-hander, missed the majority of last season while he was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He appeared in 11 total games (all starts) and went 0-4 with a 3.23 ERA between the AZL Indians and short-season Mahoning Valley. Hentges struck out 41 in 30.2 IP. Ice, a catcher, spent last season with Lake County and hit .228 with 11 HR and 42 RBI in 93 games. Longo, an outfielder, baled injuries last season and appeared in just 60 games. While he was healthy, he hit a combined .376 with 4 HR and 28 RBI between Lake County and Lynchburg. Morgan spent all of last season with Short-Season Mahoning Valley. He appeared in 13 games (8 starts) and sported a 3-2 record with a 1.03 ERA over 35 innings. He walked just nine and struck out 58. He played his college ball at Gonzaga and was draſted in the 8th round of the 2017 MLB draſt. HILLCATS COACHING STAFF Rougie Odor Manager (1st Season) Career Record: 286-319 Odor is in his 18th year coaching in the Indians organizaon. He played in the minor leagues for the Indians & Brewers from 1988-1995. Odor brings a decade of skipper experience to Lynchburg. He led San Felipe in the Venezuelan Summer League for two seasons from 1999-2000, the Burlington Indians for four seasons from 2001-2004, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers for two years from 2005-2006 and the Gulf Coast League Indians for two campaigns from 2007- 2008. He spent the past three seasons as the hing coach for the Columbus Clippers, Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate. Grant Fink Bench Coach (1st season) 2nd overall Fink joins the Hillcats as bench coach for the first me in 2018, entering his second season as a coach in the Indians organizaon. The former infielder was draſted by Cleveland in the 23 rd round of the 2013 MLB Draſt out of Missouri Western State University. A nave of St. Joseph, Mo., Fink played in parts of three minor league seasons for the Indians from 2013-2015, reaching Single-A Lake County. Fink was the bench coach last season for Short-Season Mahoning Valley. Jusn Toole Hing Coach (1st season) 3rd overall 2018 marks Toole’s first year on Lynchburg’s coaching staff and third in the Indians organizaon. The former infielder played in parts of seven minor league seasons with Cleveland from 2009-2015, reach- ing Triple-A Columbus. The Council Bluffs, Iowa nave worked as the hing coach last year for Single-A Lake County. Tony Arnold Pitching Coach (2nd season) 26th overall Arnold returns to Lynchburg aſter serv- ing as the pitching coach for the Hillcats in 2015. The former right-handed pitcher played collegiately at the Uni- versity of Texas and was draſted by the Balmore Orioles in the 10th round in the 1981 MLB Draſt. The El Paso, Texas nave played in parts of two MLB with the Orioles in 1986 and 1987. Arnold has coached in the Indians organizaon since 1992 and most recently was the pitching coach of the Akron Rubber- Ducks, Cleveland’s Double-A affiliate, for the past two seasons. REMEMBER THE NAME: Zach Plesac faces the Hillcats tonight for the second time this season. In the first meeting on May 6, Plesac fired a complete game shutout in a 4-0 Hillcats win. Plesac allowed just two hits and faced one over the minimum. Plesac needed just 74 pitches to accomplish the feat, and threw 55 of them for strikes.

ALL-STARS ALIGN: Three Lynchburg Hillcats represented the North Division All-Star team in the Mid-Season Classic Tuesday. Conner Capel, and Sam Hentges received the recognition for the first time in their careers, While Dalbert Siri was named an All-Star for the second time. The El Paso, Texas native played in parts of two MLB with the Orioles in 1986 and 1987.
