My Dear Parishioners,
The Season of Advent begins this weekend, the fourth Sunday before Christmas. This is the
beginning of the Year of Grace, the new Liturgical Year (C), when we start again to look at our
Salvation History. It is a time set aside by the Church to reflect upon the Incarnation of Our Lord,
the first coming of Jesus Christ through Grace, and to consider the second coming of Christ as Just
Judge of the living and the dead at the resurrection of the dead. We are called to be “watchful,” and
I would add “careful” not to fall into the temptation of getting lost in all the secular preparations for
Christmas and missing out on that much needed preparation time. St. Luke’s gospel warns us to be
prepared, to not let this time pass us by, to attend to that emptiness inside that only Jesus can fill.
Let us be strong in our resolve to prepare well during this Advent!
December 8th is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Patroness of the United States of America. This is a Holy Day of Obligation and we are required
as Catholics who actively live our faith to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for this day.
The Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first moment of her conception, by a singular privilege of Almighty
God, and in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, our Savior and hers, was preserved from all stain of
original sin. Pope Pius IX defined this age-old belief of the Church in 1854 as an article of revealed
truth. Our Lady was in need of redemption and she was indeed redeemed by the Precious Blood
of Jesus Christ. The manner of Mary’s redemption, however, was unique. Instead of being freed
from original sin after having contracted it, she was preserved from contracting it. This was a most
fitting favor for the Mother of the Redeemer. As Patroness of the United States, Our Lady continues
to pray for all her daughters and sons of this great country. May we rely on her prayers.

Stephen Ministers are members of St. Monica Church who go through 50 hours of caregiving training and then work alongside our Priests and Deacons in providing emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time such as divorce, grief, hospitalization or loneliness. Hay varias razones por las que estos son los mejores tamales y por qué los vendemos año tras año justo a tiempo para Navidad: se fabrican localmente en Irving, no contienen manteca de cerdo, los productos de carne y pollo no contienen antibióticos y no contienen hormonas adicionales. $ 8 por media docena o $ 14 por docena ($ efectivo o cheque) cerdo, carne de res, pollo y frijoles negros. Lo recaudado beneficia a las Hijas Católicas de las Américas.
VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE
Primer domingo de Adviento 2 de diciembre 2018

La temporada de Adviento empieza este fin de semana, el cuarto Domingo antes de Navidad.
Este es el inicio del Año de la Gracia, el nuevo Año Litúrgico (C), es el tiempo en que volvemos a mirar
la Historia de la Salvación. Es un tiempo en que la Iglesia nos invita a reflexionar sobre la Encarnación
de Nuestro Señor a través de la Gracia y tiempo también para considerar la segunda venida de Cristo
como Juez Justo de los vivos y los muertos en la resurrección de los muertos. Estamos invitados a
estar “vigilantes” y yo añadiría “ser cuidadosos” para no caer en la tentación de perdernos en las
preparaciones mundanas de la Navidad y desaprovechar este tiempo tan necesario de preparación.
El evangelio de San Lucas nos advierte para que estemos preparados, que no dejemos que se nos
pase el tiempo, que pongamos atención a ese vacío dentro de nosotros que solo Jesús puede llenar.
¡Seamos firmes en nuestra resolución de prepararnos bien en este tiempo de Adviento!
El 8 de diciembre es la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción de la Bienaventurada
Virgen María, patrona de Estados Unidos. Es un día de precepto y como católicos que practicamos
activamente nuestra fe debemos participar en el Santo Sacrificio de la Misa este día. La
Bienaventurada Virgen María, desde el momento en que fue concebida, por un privilegio especial de
Dios Todopoderoso y en anticipación de los méritos de Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador y su salvador,
fue preservada de toda mancha del pecado original. El Papa Pio IX definió esta antigua creencia de
la Iglesia en 1854 como un artículo revelado de fe. Nuestra Señora necesitaba redención y fue de
hecho redimida por la Preciosísima Sangre de Jesucristo. La forma en que María fue redimida es, sin
embargo, única pues en lugar de ser liberada del pecado después de adquirirlo fue preservada de
adquirirlo. Este es un favor apropiado para la Madre del Salvador. Como Patrona de Estados Unidos,
Nuestra Señora reza por sus hijas e hijos en este gran país. Acojámonos a sus oraciones.
