Nissan Pivo 2, a ball-

shaped electric vehicle

that can maneuver into

tight parking spots without

backing up and features a

robotic bobblehead in thecabin that can detect the

driver's mood by

analyzing changes in

facial expressions.

i-Real Concept

The three-wheel i-REAL is a masterpiece of transformation. In low-

speed mode it shortens its wheelbase to squeeze between

pedestrians. In high-speed mode, the wheelbase lengthens, giving the

vehicle a lower center of gravity and "better driving performance.

The automaker says collision avoidance technology is built into the i-

REAL. It alerts pedestrians to its whereabouts via light and sound. It

alerts the driver to passers-by through noise and vibrations.

Toyota is promoting the i-REAL as the "next stage" of the company's

"personal mobility vehicle development. It follows an evolutionary path

trod by such Toyota concepts as the PM, i-unit and i-swing

The FT-MV varies a bit from Toyota's usual take on the minivan, with

flares and a shorter hood.

Toyota says the 1/X was intended to "redefine from its very roots the idea of what it means t

environmentally considerate." So while much of the focus was on the powertrain, the compa

engineers also paid attention to space and weight efficiency, as well as safety.
