Did you know that according to the United States Department of
Agriculture, the tomato is the nation's third most popular vegetable in
the country, and Florida is the largest fresh-market producer of
tomatoes in the nation? Now that’s a lot of tomatoes!
Tomatoes can be a great, tasty snack or served in your favorite meal!
The USDA estimates that most tomatoes in the U.S. are used in sauces
and pastes, preserved into cans, made into ketchup and squeezed into
juice! Have you ever tried a tomato at home or school?
There are many great ways to eat a tomato! Let’s learn more about
tomatoes, discover where they grow in Florida and find out how they get
from your Florida farmer to your plate!

An acre is a unit of measurement for land. One acre of land is
about the size of one football field! 30,000 acres are used in
Florida to grow tomatoes. According to the Florida Tomato
Committee, Florida ships an estimated 1.1 BILLION pounds of
fresh tomatoes all over the world!
