Story-telling……

3

Story-telling is a great way to extend your child’s language and listening skills, as well as expanding their imagination.

Either you can tell the story, or encourage your child to tell the story.

Story-telling might be about:

A favourite character from a book or television program.

Your child’s favourite toy.

Another family member.

Here are some tips to start your storytelling:

Make it exciting, with different voices, puppets, props or a finger play.

Start with what interests your child.

Create a character and setting.

There were some great personal bests and most pleasing was the wonderful sportsmanship shown by our students. Well done to everyone! Those that are progressing to the next round will be competing on the 20th of April at Brauerander.

The Regional Swimming Championships were held at the amazing new indoor 50m pool at Ballarat (much more pleasant than previous years outdoors!). The standard was extremely high, however our swimmers still excelled with all of them breaking their PB’s by at least 2 secs, amazing! The girls relay team of Maddie Green, Jaz Royal, Alyssa Maher and Ascha Peterson, smashed their PB by 6 secs! Oscar Hill came 8th and 11th overall in the Backstroke and Freestyle respectively. Jack Lee finished 11th in the Backstroke (improved 4 secs on PB!). Margo Hock-ing was 10th in Backstroke and Alyssa Maher 11th in Breaststroke. Exemplary behaviour and attitudes by all our students (Charlie Green dis-graced himself a one point with a 2yr old tantrum though!), it was a pleasure to watch. Thank you to The Hill Family, Brendan and Hayden Maher and Nadine Lee for driving all that way and providing the cheer squad.

Congratulations to Oscar Hill who also competed in the State Little Athletics Championships on the weekend. Against some polished opposi-tion Oscar came 15th in the 800m, 21st in the Triple Jump, 17th in the Long Jump and 9th in the 400m beating his PB by a massive 2 secs! Well done Oscar!

Congratulations to Tenae Mounsey on her fantastic efforts representing PFCS at the Regional Championships in Colac on Tuesday. Tenae played five tough matches on grass courts. She came away with one win and I

heard there were some super rallies. She gained lots of experience and appreciation for her tennis in the future.

Well done Tenae!

Have a fantastic break and keep

active.

“Oceanarium” -

our current community arts project!

Oceanarium is a multi-artwork installation that is being

created especially for Fun4Kids 2016. Four local artists

(Deb Saunders, Becky Nevin-Berger, Karen Richards and Colleen Hughson) will use a combination of textile art,

sculpture and video to recreate the sensory richness of our unique marine environment. At Fun4Kids children will be able to explore the wonders and diversity of the underwater world through interactive features and activities within four different marine environments.

3/4’s have been working in Art classes to create the beginnings of the Underwater

Kelp Forest. This is made from finger-knitting and arm-knitting yarn cut up from repur-

posed old T-shirts. So…

WANTED! Old T-shirts -

Please deliver to the Office ASAP so we can continue working on the project during lunchtimes!

5/6’s—Wow, what an amazing week for the 5/6 cohort! Our three dinners went fantastically well and we

thank all parents and guests for attending, we hope you enjoyed yourselves! A big thank you to all parent

helpers, Jo and staff for all your assistance and time. When not busy in the kitchen or 'pop-up restaurant'

students have been reflecting on what learnings have taken place throughout this unit of work.

We wish all families a safe and happy Easter!

P/1/2 - For Writing we have been learning to use paragraphs and the word wall to help us write unfamiliar

words. In Reading we are continuing our focus on making connections as well as looking at the pictures

and pointing to the words. Our letter focus for this week is Ll and we are also focusing on the word like. In

Maths we are exploring pattern in the context of Easter activities.

3/4’s—In Maths we are learning about what Pink Floyd and ABBA sang about – ‘money’. We’re discover-

ing the many ways that we can create money amounts by using different denominations. Accurately and

methodically giving change is a skill that we have also been practising. In Reading sessions we are seeking

out extra information from illustrations, diagrams and pictures, as well as identifying words with prefixes and

suffixes. Our persuasive powers are coming to fruition as we fine-tune our writing pieces on the topic of,

‘Should all kids play sport?’ Have a safe and restful holiday from the 3/4 team.
