31st December 2010

Happy New Year Margaret and I wish you all the best for 2011 and hope that you and your family have a prosperous, happy and healthy New Year.

Gridiron Touchdown -Suttons Beach 31st January 2010 A good crew turned up for our out of session

Gridiron Touch series this morning and the Blee Bandits were too strong although it was mentioned that all the tall people were on their

side.

New Zealand name the trip –we have the winners….. We have received the winners from Hamish at Filterfab, and I will be announcing them next week so keep an eye out for the Update. The reason for the secrecy is because Hamish has nominated three entries and I am going to arrange prizes for all he mentioned.

Commando Tennis Undurba 2010 Fifteen wet and bedraggled competitors came out and braved the weather conditions to try their hand at singles and doubles at Undurba State

School on 27th December. The Chalk and Cheese comeback tour team of Tony and Nikki (seen in the background of the photo opposite wiped all

competition aside in a very convincing display of Commando Tennis. You can see the victorious team photo on Tom’s Law on face book. We are

all convinced that they had been putting in some serious practice sessions prior to the day. We finished off the day with a lovely meal and

afternoon of fun and frivolity at Mal and Mar’s.

Senior First Aid and CPR Course I will be conducting a course for SFA and CPR in

January of early February. I am looking for a clear day in the calendar and will notify you all in the next news update. The courses are

accredited ARC (Australian Resuscitation Council courses). If you need a course or update, please notify me.

Personal Training Personal Training costs more than group training. But if you feel more comfortable with a Personal Trainer and you think you need the additional

attention then why not try it. Most Personal Trainers charge around the same fee. During the week I heard an interview on radio where the DJ had employed a Personal Trainer. The trainer apparently said to the DJ if I don’t make you sick on the first session I am not doing my job. Be wary of people in the fitness industry

who suggest this. To deliberately set out to make someone sick through exercise is not generally a healthy or profitable exercise. Of

course in the conduct of hard physical exercise (depending on your physical state) people can get quite distressed. Physical exercise is hard

and should be, but limits need to be set. If you cannot walk without assistance after each personal training session you need to reassess your personal trainer. What are your aims? Can you achieve them by joining a group session? Group session are generally a lot cheaper. Perhaps you don’t have the time to fit in to the normal group activities. Maybe you get embarrassed at exercising in front of people. Here are some guidelines.

Is the trainer professionally accredited and do they have the appropriate insurance?

Do they provide shared training/ half the costs by partnering up with a friend? Do they look fit – (would you be inspired to give up smoking if told to do so by a Doctor who smokes?) If you have the money and inclination, Personal Training can be beneficial, particularly for a specific goal like trying to fit into that dress or dinner suit, a wedding or to climb a mountain etc, just make sure that whatever you pay for you measure the results. Incidentally the DJ said after the first session he was really sick and couldn’t walk properly for a few days afterwards…….he never went back. 2009 Corporate Commando Final day briefing

Tom’s tip of the week

Go for a long walk around your neighborhood. Take the dog or someone else whose company you enjoy. Make this a regular habit. It

will do you and your constitution the

world of good.
