eam Geriatric is a multiple championship winning rallycross team based in the North West of England, between Wigan and Bolton.

The team is led by experienced racer Tony Lynch, who - since moving into rallycross in 2005 - has firmly established himself as one of the top drivers on the national scene.

Despite being made up entirely of volunteers, Team Geriatric is famed for being one of the most professional teams in the British Rallycross paddock - a fact reflected in a multitude of awards that have

been handed to the team through the years.

And as for the name?

When the team elected to move into rallycross from rallying, it came after various members of the team had spent time in hospital with various illnesses - and all shared a desire to return to competition.

It was Tony’s wife Susan who suggested that the team looked like a group of Geriatrics.

From that, Team Geriatric was born...

Lucas Oil: A match

made in heaven

Since 2011, Team Geriatric has proudly competed with title

sponsorship from Lucas Oil – one of the most famous high

performance lubricant companies in the world.

That title sponsorship deal was the extension of a relationship that dates back as far as 2005, when Lucas Oil joined the team as a

supplier and minor sponsor whilst Tony was competing in Clubmans

Rallycross.

As the ties between team and sponsor have strengthened, so has the desire to succeed on track, with Lucas Oil Team Geriatric securing

back-to-back championship titles in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Having risen through the production class ranks, Team

Geriatric is now competing at the highest level when it comes to

two-wheel drive competition in the British Rallycross Championship.

With years of success already under the Lucas Oil name under its belt, Team Geriatric is keen to challenge for more championship silverware during the year ahead,

with title glory in the Super National category being the

ultimate aim.

take the best bits of circuit racing and combine them with the best bits of rallying and you have rallycross; one of the most popular - and action-packed - forms of motorsport that can be found anywhere on the globe

allycross is a unique form of motorsport that offers guaranteed action from short, sharp sprint races on special mixed-surface circuits

Racing around the UK and Ireland, the British Championship features a variety of different classes to cater for a wide selection of cars and budgets with each event following a similar format - where drivers contest a number of qualifying heats to determine their grid slot for the all-important final. It’s then a simple first to the flag to decide the winner.

With races lasting a matter of minutes, each event over the course of the season can feature as many as 60 wheel-to-wheel battles as drivers fight for on-track success. Taking into account the amount of action, and the levels of excitement, there are few - if any - forms of motorsport to match it.

RallycrosS?

r

back to british...

In 2015 it was back to the MSA British Rallycross Championship with an entry into the Super National Class.

Continuing with the ongoing development of the MINI, it wasn’t long before the car was running at the sharp end of the field - and the team is still only scratching the surface of it’s potential...

eam Geriatric competes in the Super National class of the British Rallycross Championship with a MINI Cooper S that has been developed in-house by the team alongside a number of specialist technical partners.

Originally built to compete in a different class altogether, extensive work has been carried out to the car over the past twelve months to improve the handling characteristics of the car and also to extract additional levels of performance from the engine.

Developing the car in the best way possible, through on-track competition, the team has already

shown the potential of the MINI with a stunning victory during the 2015 event at Mondello Park.

Coming in the early stages of work on the engine, and with the MINI still noticeably down on power compared to other cars in the field as a result, it was a win that showcased the superior handling of the car.

With the ongoing development leading to continued improvements in on-track performance, the team is now seeking to raise its game and challenge for championship honours, with the Team Geriatric MINI set to be one of the cars to beat during the upcoming season.

T

new car but same old story...

Having enjoyed success running a Suzuki Swift, Team Geriatric made the decision to switch to the MINI for the 2013 campaign.

Despite the move to a new machine, both team and driver were on the pace from the outset and the end result was a championship title at the end of the year - with Tony being crowned victor in the BMW MINI Rallycross Championship

a change of plan...

Switching to the BTRDA Rallycross championship in 2014, the team started out on the development programme with the MINI but again ended the year with a title to its name - taking the over 2101cc crown in the Super Modified class.

lthough rallycross is one of the more cost effective methods of motorsport, there are still a wide selec-tion of costs that need to be covered each and every season.

Whilst the team’s personal budget and the support of existing long-term backers goes some way to-wards keeping the MINI on track, there are a range of different costs that need to be met over the course of the year - ranging from mechani-cal maintenance and running costs of the car through to transporta-tion to race meetings, on-event accommodation for the team and

body work repairs - which are to be expected thanks to the rough and tumble nature of the sport.

A range of different sponsorship options exist in order to help the team maintain the high standards for which it is so well known.

Of course, a key part of any sponsor-ship deal is value for money, and we pride ourselves on working hard to maximise the investment from all of our backers.

ne of the major attractions for sponsors who are keen to get involved with Team Geriatric is the impressive broadcast deal that is currently in place for the British Rallycross Championship.

That broadcast deal sees the series air across Europe via Eurosport, whilst an agreement with MAV TV means that the championship is also available to race fans across America and Canada.

For a national championship to gain such wide-reaching coverage is of huge significance, and is an indication of the popularity of the series.

The deal with Eurosport provides direct access to 260,000 homes in the UK alone, with more than 30,000 additional Premier Sports subscribers also able to tune in. Taking it account the additional European and North American viewers, and the potential reach for Team Geriatric is well into the millions.

An example of the coverage that can be seen on Eurosport is available to view by clicking HERE; showing Tony en-route to victory at Mondello Park during the 2015 season.

As well as traditional broadcast routes, the British Rallycross Championship has moved to embrace the internet, with a special live online stream of every event being made available to an ever increasing audience.

Nearly 70,000 people have also viewed content posted on the British Rallycross Youtube channel.

a prime time audience...

Alongside race coverage, Team Geriatric played a key role in organising a special Rallycross feature that aired on BBC Breakfast in which presenter Mike Bushell was able to sample the MINI Cooper S at the Three Sisters circuit near Wigan - a feature which can be viewed HERE

uring the 2015 season, Team Geriatric appeared at a number of events to promote its sponsors.

The first of these came back in January after the team was invited to play a prominent role at the annual Autosport International

Show, held the NEC in Birmingham.

Regarded by many as the starting point for the motorsport season, the show is attended by tens of thousands of people every year - with more than 80,000 streaming through the doors as the event celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Team Geriatric took on a starring role in the Live Action Arena during all four days of the show, with Tony taking part in a series of demonstrations to showcase rallycross to the watching fans.

The team also took part in the second running of the Coventry MotoFest - a special event that saw motorsport come to the streets of the Midlands city.

Initially, the team had planned to be

present as part of a static display, but the opportunity to take part in a series of demonstration runs when asked was too good to miss.

Across the weekend, more than 100,000 fans packed the streets to watch all the action - with the prospect of more to come next year when a change to British law will allow the event to include a competition element.

Working alongside title sponsor Lucas Oil, the team also made an appearance at the Anglesey Show, with the Team Geriatric MINI proving to be a popular draw for fans.

The team plans to return to both Autosport International and the Coventry Motofest in 2016, and has also started to explore the possibility of getting involved in Carfest North; the annual charity event at Oulton Park circuit headed by new Top Gear presenter and radio personality Chris Evans.

Posts to the page achieve an average reach in excess of 370 – with a number of posts achieving a reach of more than 1,000.

Engagement with fans on social media has provided Team Geriatric with direct access to a new audience, with plans in place to expand the social media offerings in 2016 with more behind the scenes content.
