PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Page 3 Volume 29, Issue 11

Hello everyone, welcome to the November newsletter.

Firstly. It is with sadness to report that Scott & Debbie’s daughter, Teneale,

passed away on Thursday 14th November after a long illness. Merle & Mick

also lost a loved one with the recent passing of Merle’s mother, Doreen, on

Sunday 3rd November. On behalf of all TDMG members, I would like to con-

vey the Groups deepest condolences on your loss at this time.

We haven’t been around much this month and have missed a few really good

runs. Although Brian's run was in the previous month, we missed this as we

had already booked for the LAMA weekend. Our Group receives an invita-

tion to this event and it is well worth the effort. On this occasion the weekend saw over 64 cars.

We weren’t able to get to the Goombungee Jacaranda Festival either or for that matter the CAR INC meet-

ing at Miles. This is mostly because we have been researching our family tree since 2004 and finally finished

it off. So we headed up North to see family and go through it with them.

It seems only fitting too, that because everyone else is or has headed overseas that it is now our turn. We

are heading off on a European trip in a couple of weeks, so we will not be here in December. It’s actually

our first really big trip overseas, with England, France and Germany on the itinerary. Heading off for 23 days

with hopefully a visit to the Christmas Markets.

Only a couple of upcoming events. First off is the Qld Club run along the new Bypass on the 24th Novem-

ber—although we have done this run a few times now, it’s still a good one to do if only to stretch the Mor-

ries legs. Our second run is our Christmas Party which is to be held at Highfields Tavern on the 8th De-

cember. All details can be found on the

Events Page.

Well that's all from me, your fearless

leader. It’s a month in advance, but

wishing all our members a very MER-

RY CHRISTMAS. Stay safe and we

will see you in the New Year.

Brian

SECRETARY/EDITOR NOTES

Sunday 17th November, Brian & Barbara Draper, Mick & Merle Muller and myself

met up at Withcott to head to Lake Apex Gatton to take part in the Issi day event

organised by Brisbane Southside. We rolled into Lake Apex just on 10am to meet up

with Bob & Helen Cooper from the Qld MMCC and Tony & Helen from The Morris

Registry and settled into our morning tea and chatted about everything in general.

After an hour and a half with still no sign of our Southside friends we began to ques-

tion what was happening.

One of our group eventually made a phone call to find that the event had been can-

celled, however we must have missed the smoke signals sent to inform us. I guess

they might have been obscured by the smoke from the bush fires in the area. So

there have it, our Claytons Run (a run you have when you’re not having a run).

Anne & I returned from our Italy and Malta adventure a couple of days ago and just

about over the jet lag. Had a great time seeing all the wonderful sights and a large

number of very ornate churches. On our Abu Dhabi stopover we visited the Grand

Mosque which had a fascinating display of ancient artefacts. On the way there I saw a

freeway speed sign restricting cars to 140kmh and I thought boy, that’d slow down

our Morries.

On reaching Malta the last leg of our adventure, I read that having been a British

Colony there were still lots of old English cars; Minors, Ford Prefects & Anglia's,

Triumphs and Bedfords etc. Aside from a nice Bedford bus I didn’t see any of the

others mentioned but a did spot a nice Mk1 Ford Escort, an Alfa GTV and in the

distance on a tilt tray what appeared to be Standard 10 and possibly and MGB or

Healey Sprite. Also saw a gorgeous RR Silver Shadow being used that day as a wed-

ding car and the following day, a drop dead very new McLaren Sports.

Anyway it’s back to reality now and I’m looking forward to next Sundays run on the

new Toowoomba Bypass with our QMMCC friends.

See you Thursday.

The Morrie felt like a

'fish out of water' on

this outing with 102

muscle cars sur-

rounding the car at

the Blue Mountain car

park which was a fund

raiser for the Too-

woomba Hospice.

Great turn out for

the rev heads of Too-

woomba and sur-

rounds, though if

your vehicle lacked a

V8 you were not

cool. It was bit of a shame really that none of the older cars didn’t turn up or maybe

were simply not invited. There was even an FC and a Morris Commercial fitted out

with a V8, cool. Someone asked what was under my bonnet I said half a V8 they were

happy with that. Or should I say cool?

I only saw the notice in the local rag myself and being a nice day decided to venture

out for the morning, the day was a big success with great raffles of donated goodies,

it was good to sit in the shade and talk to people with different outlooks

M aking the trek out to Goombungee for the Jacaranda Festival were 9

members in six Morries and John and Noelene in their plastic. They

had a fair excuse though as they were travelling on to Miles after the

parade to represent our Group for the CAR Inc. meeting which was

on the same weekend as the festival.

The crowd attending was excellent but more impressive was the display of trees in

full bloom along the main street, mainly jacaranda's and silky oaks. They were also

decorated for the occasion in colourful cloth and homemade mannequins.

There were also quite a number of street stalls and entertainment—plenty of dancing

girls made us wish we were all young again. The street parade had a great mixture of

vehicles, old tractors, cars and of course classic cars.

The Rosalie Shire Historical Museum was open to the public and within was an inter-

esting mix of historic photographs, local family histories and memorabilia. A credit to

the Society for putting on a good display. The day was to finish with a rodeo and live

music at the Showgrounds which was to start at 3pm.

All in all a good morning's outing and maybe next year we may enter few Morries for

the parade.
