1. According to Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya the Centre is implementing a Rs.1,900

crore e-governance project called ‘Panch Deep’ to automate transactions of the Employees State

Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Under the project, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution

would be installed across the country which will give a unique card to the employees and facilitate

clearance of third party bills.

2. Joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India programme, top lender ICICI Bank has

launched its own 'digital village' project while adopting an entire village in Gujarat to provide services

ranging from cashless banking to digitised school teaching.

3. The Government of India signed an agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a $60

million loan that will help improve urban services, including water supply and urban transport

ADB's Ordinary Capital Resources has a 25-year term including a grace period of five years.

4. Chinese ambassador to North Korea Liu Hongcai and North Korea's vice sports minister, Son

Kwang Ho, signed a sports exchange protocol for 2015 at the People's Culture Palace. The

agreement included 18 sports exchange programmes covering football, shooting, judo and involved

585 people including coaches, athletes and physical educators from both countries.

5. India has emerged as the second largest foreign trading partner of Dubai after China in the first

nine months of 2014. Figures released by Dubai Customs show that China was Dubai’s top foreign

trade partner during this period, with a trade value of 34 billion dollars, up 27 per cent over the

previous year. India followed next with the trade worth 21.78 billion dollar.

6. Amending rules for NBFCs with regard to their KYC exercise, the Reserve Bank relaxed the time

limit. The rules have been eased due to practical difficulties and constraints in getting Know-Your-

Customers (KYC) documents at frequent intervals. "Full KYC exercise will be required to be done at

least every 2 years for high risk individuals and entities''.

6. President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir by using the rights

superannuation of Chief Justice M.M. Kumar.

11. All you need to know about 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated every year on January 9. The three-day event of 13th

PBD organized at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat was inaugurated on 7th jan 2015.

The event is also known as ‘Non-Resident Indian Day’ as it marked the return of Mahatma Gandhi

from South Africa in the year 1915 on the same day i.e. January 9. The programme alsoacknowledges the contribution of Indians living abroad in the development of the country.

The PBD is organised by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and is supported by Federation of

Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and

Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region of India.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas programme serves as a platform for the Indians to share their valuable

experiences in various fields. Moreover, individuals who have achieved excellence in their respective

fields are also honoured during the programme with the prestigious ‘Bharatiya Samman’ award.

The PBD not only helps in networking and building partnerships but also promotes various initiatives

related to trade, investment, education, culture, health, emigration, developments and science.

Over 4,000 delegates of Indian diaspora are expected to attend the 13th PBD initiated by then NDA

government in 2003.

Guyana President Donald Ramotar is the chief guest for this year's programme. The chief guest will

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cut the repo rate by 25 basis point from 8 percent to 7.75

percent with immediate effect. The Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) remains unchanged at 4 percent. The

reverse repo rate under the LAF stands adjusted to 6.75 percent, and the marginal standing facility(MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 8.75 percent with immediate effect.

6. Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka announced that his company will spend USD 250 million (over Rs.

1,500 crore) to fund innovations in software and services in India. Infosys will develop software for

managing the Kumbh Mela scheduled in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) in 2016. Infosys formed USD 500

million Innovation Fund. Of this, Rs. 1,500 crore, will be dedicated to just innovation in India.

7. India's 25 years old open water swimmer Bhakti Sharma has set a world record by swimming 1.4

miles in 52 minutes in one degree temperature at Antarctic Ocean. She has bettered the earlier

record of British open water swimmer Lewis Pugh and American swimmer Lynne Cox. Bhakti is now

the youngest in the world and the first Asian girl to have achieved this feat. She has now conquered

all the five oceans of the world.

3. The Joint Working Group and the Home Secretary Level Talks between India and Bangladesh
