CONCENTRATION: Health Care Transactional and Regulatory Matters and Commercial Real Estate

My most ful lling matters … involve working with hospitals and physicians to develop strategies for future growth in an Affordable Care Act world.

I’m so proud of my rm because ... they are client-focused, scally conservative and strategically motivated to nd solutions for our clients.

Did you know it’s illegal to ... pay a commission to someone for referring health-care business.

I wish more Savannahians knew ... how to focus on their own health care, get t and reduce health-care costs through their own activities.

I stay involved in the community by … being involved in my church, the Chamber of Commerce and various other community-focused endeavors and events.

Most people are surprised when they learn I … work out most days at 6 a.m.

My charity of choice is … my church, but also United Way and Hospice Savannah.

I maintain a work/life balance by … exercising, entertaining and reading.

I unwind by … listening to books on tape, particularly while I am exercising or driving.

If I wasn’t a lawyer, I would be … a hospital administrator.

We are proud of our fi rm because … when we represent individuals and their families in personal injury and wrongful death cases, we make a difference in their lives.

Our biggest case … was a $4.2 million recovery for a 21-year old, who became a paraplegic after a single-car accident.

We are known for … being among the fi rst law fi rms in the nation that sued a nursing home for neglecting a resident and obtained a substantial jury verdict. In the 1990s, other lawyers shied away from these cases because the victims were elderly and had signifi cant pre-existing medical problems. Our response was, “So what?” That does not give a nursing home the right to abuse and neglect a resident. We continue to fi ght for the rights of nursing home residents and their families throughout Georgia and South Carolina.

We stay involved in the community by … serving on local boards and giving to local charities.

Our philosophy is … tenacity. We don’t give up because our opponents want a ght. We build meaningful long-term relationships with our clients and strive to get the best result versus the easiest result.

Our most intriguing case … was when we were able to get all federal charges dismissed two weeks before jury trial. Our client was able to retire from active-duty military, and her VA bene ts were restored with back-pay.

Our biggest case … involved a cata-strophic truck accident that ended our client’s military career. We were able to obtain close to policy limits through mediation despite the fact that there were three other claimants.
