COMPANY CLASS ON STAGE

Get your Spring Pack today!

7 – 7:45 pmBefore every performance, the Ballet Arizona Company dancers prepare their bodies with a technique class, taken as an ensemble, in the performance space. During the class, the dancers progress from simple pliés (small to large bending of the knees, with the feet rotated as far from parallel as proper alignment allows), to more complicated exercises at the ballet barre (a fixed supporting instrument), and then to the center of the stage to pirouette (variations of turns with one foot supporting the dancer and the other controlling presentation), and grand jeté (a medium to large jump implemented by one foot powering the jump and one controlling the landing). The essential goal of the class is to technically and physically prepare the dancers for the performance. After the technique class, the Company dancers will have time to mentally and artistically prepare for the performance while they apply makeup, style their hair, and get into costume. During this process, the Stage Manager will update the dancers on all relevant details (e.g., “15 minutes to places”) or changes. At show time, the Stage Manager will call “Places please; dancers to the stage”; seconds later the curtain rises … or, in the Garden, the sun sets!
