The objective of this project was to create a design that re-flected the architecture of the house. The arching and hori-zontal quality of the rooflines were taken note of and used to inform the design. To repeat the high arches of the rooflines, several camilla japonica are pruned to be shaped into tall triangular forms. A hierarchy of plant height, texture, and form was implemented to add visual appeal. Per information from our instructor, the residence is located on a shady site, the plants used are bold and bright to lighten the overall appear-ance.

The median designed in this project was planted with swaths of shrubs and native grasses. The design was kept simple consid-ering people will be viewing it in passing at high speeds. A curv-ing corridor of plantings make for a fluid design that seem to moves with each passerby.

Lumpkin woods is a part of the UGA campus that is often ne-glected by students and passersby. To reestablish this area as a desirable pedestrian corridor, a rain garden, natural woodlands, and a multi use lawn area was implemented. The proposed visi-tor’s center is located close to Sanford Drive and Cedar Street for better visibility and access for students. Copper statues are placed strategically in order for better visibility as well through-out the site and are indiciated by the white circles on the plan.

The Ecology courtyard is located on the UGA campus. The ob-jective was to redesign the exisitng courtyard to make it a more desirable space for students and staff. The subject of ecology was used to inform the forms and plant material used in the design. The design kept a natural feel, and native plants were used to pro-vide an ecologically sound and sustainable solution.

The Curnin residence is a unique property where two homes share one backyard. The tropical feel of the design enables visitors to feel as if they have escaped to their favorite beach getaway. The site includes areas for leisure activities such as outdoor dining, a two tiered pool with water slide, and open areas for various outdoor activities. Visitoris and residents of this site may come here to enjoy the wonderful amenitities in the warm and cool weather as there is a hot tub and firepit for cooler temperatures. A naturalistic waterfall in the lower pool creates a soothing sound to drown out an anydesirable noise coming from surrounding areas. For a more intimate setting, a grotto hidden beneath large boulders makes for a peace-ful, quite place. There are two main levels of the site creating beautiful views from many vantage points. Finally, the curvi-linear form as a whole creates smooth circulation throughout the site.

In this two part project we were given the same site with two different design problems. The first was to simply place one home on the 14 acre site with minimal impact to the existing conditions. The objective of the second project was to design a multi-family housing community. 137 units were to be placed on 14 acres of land. The community included ammenities such as a pool, tennis courts, and a clubhouse. Miminal ecological damage was achieved by the grading of the site as well.

foundry street redesignFoundry street is located in Athens, Georgia. It is an underutilized portion of a street near the downtown area of Athens. Increased building frontage and widened pedestrian paths made the space more accessible and inviting. With the intentions of restaurant space, studio space for exercise, and health stores the new square will give off a “healthy vibe” and ecourage Athens’ patrons to be in-volved. Because of its mixed uses, this space will attract a variety of different people. Crosswalks were installed to keep pedestrians safe as they enter and exit the space.

The objective of this project was to design and create a functional laser tag field for two teams of 8-15 players each, for ages 10 and up, at Dudley Park in Athens, Georgia. The design must address both game play requirements, as well as landscape ecological characteristics. A developed theme in the space will create unity and enjoyment while also creating an aesthetically pleasing at-mosphere for daily park patrons. Proper facilities will be imple-mented to ensure organized use and site up keep.
