Tossa de Mar Let’s bet? New year, new possibilities! Let’s make a plan, let’s learn new languages, let’s face the world! Revise English? Yes! Attend Spanish class? Yes! Or maybe better French? Both of them! Now, at once, without waiting any second longer. That’s how it looks at the beginning. Whathappens next is: we are going to a language scho-ol or bookshops, paying for a course and many books, coming for the first three lessons, re-ading the first five chapters and… we forget aboutall the great resolutions we had at the beginning. I bet all of you know what I’m talking abo-ut. So today let’s make a new resolution: to fulfil ourlanguage resolution. Not necessarily on a course or from books, but with „The Language Telegraph”.We hope it will give you fun and knowledge at the same time. Especially when we depend too much on our intuition, which may be very creative, but not necessarily very accurate... It is after birds now… Już po ptokach… In order to avoid other, equally funny mi-stakes, one should remember about the existen-ce of so-called false friends, which are words in dif-ferent languages that look and sound familiar, but that have different meanings to what we think.Face the challenge The fear of being misunderstood should notstop you from putting into practice your foreign lan-guage skills. Use simple words and phrases. It is al-ways better to say something, than not to say any-thing at all and get frustrated. We should always bear in mind the fact that people around us are perfectly aware of the difficulties someone may face tryingto use another language. Is a newborn baby able to walk instantly after being born? Everyone can achie-ve success in any domain, it is all about discovering your own learner style and practising systematically. All inventions and breakthroughs were pre-ceded by numerous attempts, experiments and tests. Nothing comes up ‘just like that’; practice and patience are needed. So, make mistakes, do-n’t be ashamed of them, but also learn from them!

РОССИЯ В ТУРЦИИ ГЛАЗАМИ ИРЕНЫ КУДЛИНСКОЙ

Холоднo... Термометр показывает 10 градусов ниже нуля. Помогает только горячий чай с лимоном и теплые воспоминания о Турции... После трехчасового полета наконец-то можно было разогнуть ноги. Когда самолет приземлился в Анталии, оказалось, что я не в Турции, а в России! Русские надписи были везде: „аренда недвижимости”, „ ресторан приглашает” и „самое лучшее туристическое агенство” - бросаются в

глаза, прямо „бомбардируют”. Иду дальше и слышу русский язык: в гостинице, на пляже, в ресторане и на корабле, когда плыву по Черному морю. Моё первое впечатление от Турции: «Боже, здесь все говорят по-русски!» Но, я не жалуюсь, потому что красивой Турции к лицу русский язык. Если вы хотите соединить приятное с полезным, хорошо отдохнуть и изучить разговорный русский язык - езжайте в Турцию!

ЛЕДОВЫЙ ГОРОДОКLILA DOROŻYŃSKA

Укутанный глубокими снегами большую часть года, в темноте полярной ночи, озаряемый фейерверками северного сияния ,спрятался за Полярным кругом мой город Норильск. Город с трагической историей, построенный на вечной мерзлоте политическими заключёнными, среди которых был и мой тогда 17 летний отец.

Везде на тысячи километров тундра, здесь и там изредка разбросаны избушки рыбаков и охотников. Некоторые пустуют, но всегда готовы принять усталых обессиленных путников, нуждающихся в тепле и помощи. В такой затерянной избушке найдём дрова, чай, сахар и консервы. Мы тоже оставляем что-нибудь. Наш небольшой гостинец может спасти чью-нибудь жизнь. Это закон тундры, здесь, как шутливо говорят норильчане, зима длится 12 месяцев, а остальное время-лето и лето.В вечной мерзлоте Зима моего детства -это чудесное время. Можно выбирать: коньки, лыжи или санки. Огромные снежные горы появляются в каждом дворе уже в ноябре. Всю долгую зиму мы старательно копаем в них тунели и лабиринты, в которых надёжно укрываемся от ветров и снежной

пурги. В новогоднюю ночь на главной городской площади вырастает причудливый Ледяной городок: замки, башни и крепостные стены.Долгожданное солнышко Под конец февраля полярная ночь тратит силу и уступает:появляется долгожданное солнышко. В этот день уроки в школе отменяются и на лицах жителей, как отражение солнечных лучей, светятся улыбки. Cнежные горы тают, везде и всюду появляется наше любимое лакомство - искрящиеся сосульки. Вот и апрель, солнце уже постоянный спутник - время на лыжный сезон. После целого дня, проведённого на горках, как же блаженно гостить в тундровой избушке, погреться в бане и, попивая чаёк, слушать рассказы или песни. В конце июня снег исчезает, тундра мгновенно расцветает- коротко полярное лето, а в городе царят белые ночи. Солнце не заходит за горизонт и ласково согревает мужественных северян, самое большое богатство этой окраины. Достаточно, что случайно встреченный человек тоже жил в Норильске, и для него открываются наши двери и души, потому что бывших норильчан не бывает. Норильск-это навсегда.

КАК ВСТРЕЧАЮТ НОВЫЙ ГОД

Варим орехи в меду, едим кашу из чечевицы, громко кричим, выбрасываем старые вещи – и Новый год принесёт нам изобилие и счастье.

Как встретишь Новый год , так его и проведёшь...Такое поверье существует с древних времён у многих народов. Поэтому новогодний стол обязательно должен быть богатым и щедрым, чтобы таким и был наступающий год. По обычаю... Во многих странах мира есть свои обычаи, которые связаны с приготовлением блюд для встречи Нового года. В Грузии, например, для встречи Нового года варят орехи в меду. Орехи – это символ изобилия, и блюда из них означают: будет много всего, а золотистый цвет мёда – возможное богатство. Итальянцы, чтобы кошелёк всегда был полон денег, первого января на завтрак едят кашу из чечевицы. Чем больше денег нужно, тем больше должно быть в ней зёрен. У японцев принято подавать жаренного карпа – символ стойкости перед трудностями и невзгодами. В Гане любимое новогоднее блюдо – это жареный петух. Венгры, наоборот, не едят в новогоднюю ночь рыбу и птицу, иначе счастье уплывет или улетит. Австрийцы не едят в эту ночь омаров и раков, чтобы не „пятиться назад” к прежним проблемам. Интересны также обычаи, которые связаны со встречей Нового года. В Индии перед порогом каждого дома люди рисуют разноцветные рисунки – символы гостеприимства, и украшают окна и двери лампочками. По традиции, каждый должен подойти к старшему по возрасту, чтобы попросить благословения, душевного спокойствия и здоровья. В Гане в полночь, по обычаю, жители громко кричат, так как они считают,что надо „выкричать” все, что было плохого в прошедшем году и громко же оповестить о том, что было хорошего. Шведы в ночь под Новый год бьют к счастью посуду на мелкие осколки. Новый год В некоторых странах южной Европы

существует обычай успеть съесть в полночь – под удары часов – двенадцать виноградин. Если кто-то не успеет съесть вовремя очередной виноградины, значит, в данном месяце ждут его неудачи. В новогоднюю ночь на итальянских улицах очень опасно: как только часы пробьют 12 ударов – изо всех окон и балконов летят старые предметы и мебель. Традиция объясняет, что, если в полночь выбросить старую вещь, то в новом году будет новая. В России Новый год празднуется два раза: сначала по местному времени и потом по московскому, потому что по территории этой страны проходит 11 часовых поясов. Начало Нового года – это время радости, поэтому люди поют, танцуют, в полночь наполняют бокалы шампанским и провозглашают тосты. Символы их радости и надежд на лучший наступающий год – это фейерверки и ёлка – олицетворение неувядающей жизни.

I used to decorate cakes with flowers and rosesmade from icing and prepare do-ughnuts. - That means you started yourcareer in a junior position.- If anyone wants to tell employ-ees how to work, he has to do all this work himself first. After a few years of decorating cakes I started to serve customers wor-king as a waitress and sales as-sistant. At the beginning of this year I learnt all the other kinds of work done at our company. Finally, a few months ago, our manager took maternity leave and I started to work in her po-sition.- Every day you spend many hours at work. Having about 100 guests daily, it must be difficult to avoidsome strange and funny situations... - Once a customer asked me for a torte with special decorations. He wanted to have it for the next day, but unfortunately our rules state that clients have to ask

for cakes at least three days before delivery. I told him that we could bake it, but we would not have time to make the decorations. He replied that he knew Mr. Sowa and that I could say good-bye to my job. And he really called my father!- You are both working and studying - it must be difficult.- Studies are the most important thing for me. After

coming home I rest for a while and get down to work. I study in the eve-nings. I have time for everything, in-cluding meeting my friends. - How are other students with you? Are you the daughter of „this Sowa” for them?- Most of them are very nice. Someti-mes someone tells me that she or he came to the restaurant, but that they didn’t like some things about it. And once I was waiting for my lecture at the front of the classroom with my friends whensuddenly I heard a boy saying that he had been at a party with me, and I had no idea who it was!

KNOWN AND (NOT)FORGOTTEN: INSOMNIA A good movie grabs the viewer’s attention from the very beginning, makes you laugh or cry, and ma-kes you think. Like “Insomnia”, the masterful psychological thriller directed by Christopher Nolan. Al Paci-no, the iconic figure of American movies, is surrounded by a great supporting cast: Martin Donovan, RobinWilliams and Hilary Swank. Two Los Angeles homicide detectives, Will Dormer (Al Pacino) and Hap Eckhart (Martin Donovan), are sent from Los Angeles to a small Alaska town, Nightmute, to investigate the murder of a 17-year-old girl. Will accidentally shoots his own partner while trying to apprehend a suspect. Although the detective realizes what happened, he is given an unexpected alibi and he doesn’t admit his guilt. What is more – he has still got the murder of the teenager to solve. At the same time, ambitious young local detective, Ellie Burr (Hilary Swank), is conducting her own personal investigation about detective Eckhart’s death. One day when detective Dormer answers the phone in his private room? house/bedroom/office?? herealizes that the murderer of the teenage girl has contacted him. It transpires that he knows everything about detective Eckhart’s death. Moreover, the mysterious man is aware of another fact which Dormer is hiding – Dormer became a victim of the oppressive effect of the sun over Alaska and suffers from insomnia. Sleeplessnights drive the detective to delirium and hallucinations. ”Don’t lose your way” –detective Dormer warns his younger colleague, detective Ellie Burr, at the end of a story. Why? You’ll have to find it out for yourself!
