To define the term extreme environment and adventure holiday (E-D)

Extreme environment is a place where few people live, due to difficult physical conditions. Examples include hot and cold deserts, mountains and rainforests.

Adventure holiday have activities which require an element of risk and physical exertion. Examples include white-water rafting, kayaking, trekking and cross-country skiing.

• Level 1 (Basic) (1-2 marks)• Simple statements largely descriptive of the attractions of the extreme

• Level 2 (Clear) (3-4 marks)• Linked statement describing the features of extreme environments and

showing why they are attractive to tourists.

The high mountains provide spectacular scenery, which is not found inother parts of the world. People can carry out dangerous sports likemountaineering and skiing off piste or hang gliding. The ecosystem ofthese areas is unique and people will see wild animals in their unspoilthabitat.
