“Today there is a growing understanding around the world, and especially in Latin

America, that the alliance between countries that are strong, efficient, active and transpar-

ent, and private sectors that are responsible and committed to the wellbeing of society,

constitutes the basis for productive and economic development that is harmonious and

holistic; the ethiconomy - ethics and economics - which places human beings at its centre, as

its reason to be, and reminds us that human beings are not just another factor in production,

they are in itself the purpose of production".

Address by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ecuador, Rafael Correa Delgado, at the opening

of the World Business Forum Latin America 2010—Guayaquil, 30th November 2010.

Located in the northwest of South America, straddling the equator, an exceptional geostrategic position (the port of Manta is the point of South America which is closest to the Asian ports).

It is the centre of America and, as such, the equidistant axis with markets such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Peru,

Mexico, the United States and Canada. Thanks to the proximity of the Panama Canal, Ecuador is an economic stopping point for accessing European and Middle

East markets.
