2008 summer seasonThe Township of The Archipelago is accepting applications for the position of Lighthouse Attendant for the 2008 Summer Season at the Pointe au Baril Lighthouse.
The Pointe au Baril Lighthouse is located on the Georgian Bay, approximately 10 kms from the community of Pointe au Baril and is accessible by water only. The Pointe au Baril Lighthouse receives more than 3,000 visitors per season.
During the 2008 summer season, the Lighthouse will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from June 23rd to August 31st, 2008. (Closed Monday and Tuesday).
The responsibilities of the Lighthouse Attendant include, but are not limited to: greeting visitors and providing them with historical information about the Lighthouse and surrounding area; the *sale of merchandise (souvenirs, clothing, books, etc.); providing information to the public regarding local businesses and services to promote the area’s tourism industry; lawn maintenance including mowing and trimming; planting and maintaining flower beds; identifying problems in and around the facility and making minor repairs; ensuring the Lighthouse is secure when vacant, and other related duties as assigned. The successful candidate shall provide his/her own transportation.
*The sale of merchandise and/or services not authorized by the Township of the Archipelago shall not be permitted.

The Township of The Archipelago, is a picturesque progressive municipality on the eastern shore of Georgian Bay, encompassing many inland lakes and a substantial portion of the famous thirty thousand islands.
If you are interested in joining a leading edge team and being part of something new and exciting where your only limits are your imagination, then this position is for you. This exciting, position reports to the Chief Planner and is a vital part of the Planning Department team.
This position is responsible for conducting preliminary reviews of various planning applications as well as preparing planning reports for presentation to Council. Knowledge and understanding of the Planning Act and its regulations and procedures are critical to this position. Due to the unique geography of the Township, the Planning Technician position will require field work to be undertaken on Georgian Bay.
The successful applicant will have either a University Degree in Planning or a Municipal Planning and Development Technician Diploma or a degree in a related field. A suitable combination of education and experience would be preferred.
This successful individual must possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills and be able to interact effectively with the public. As well, you will possess strong computer skills.

The salary range for the position is $43,960 to $52,369 (under review), with an excellent benefit package.
This position consists of a 35 hour work week.
