President’s Message

Julie Girard -President

Spring is finally here! We have been through a long, tough winter. For many businesses, the past couple of years have also felt like a long winter. The increases in minimum wage, the changes to labour laws, and the recent the changes to Employment Standards and OHS have layered on costs to small businesses, ever increasing the demands of being a business owner. We work hard at your Chamber to advocate on behalf of you and your business. We know that we need to continue to hold government accountable. Recently, we represented our Members at the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Political Action Day, we heard from all three Leaders of Opposi-tion parties. Finance Minister Joe Ceci facilitated a Q & A period to end the day. The construction of the Kinder Morgan Pipeline and Cannabis legislation were among the Hot Topic items.Executive Director, Sharon Anderson, was invited to a meeting with Sean Finn, Chief Legal Officer and Vice President of CN, to discuss means to improve CN’s service and the back log of grain shipments, resulting in CN’s promise to address our concerns.I also attended ACC’s Round Table in Sherwood Park where a number of Emerging Policy items were discussed. The prosperity of our province relies on the hard work of you and your business. We have your back.

Your special invitation and opportunity to mingle with your peers!
