CEED Application Booklet

Namibia 2015

Hello my fellow-AIESECer!

You’ve made the right choice in opening up this booklet. And I get to say that, as I am currently finishing up my CEED in Namibia ;) It was a blast – something

that I can truly recommend doing.

For me this was an AIESEC experience unlike any other, not just because I was suddenly living and working in another country, but also because the local

reality is quite different from the one I was used to. As an MC CEEDer you are working with the three-person MC on a daily basis, which will give you greater

insight in AIESEC on a national level. Because AIESEC in Namibia is still very young (1,5 years) you will learn about the issues a startup company faces. I

personally found this all very interesting and I loved the challenges it brought.

If you are willing to get out of your comfort zone, to live/work/breathe AIESEC day and night with an international MC, to share your knowledge and to

develop others, if you are solution-oriented, flexible and positive-minded, APPLY!

This booklet provides you with some basic information about Namibia and AIESEC here, about the CEEDs that will be available early next year and how to

apply.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about my experience, or to email the MC if you have any questions about the upcoming CEEDs.

Big Hug,

Eline van Breukelen ([email protected])

What does AIESEC in Namibia look like?

AIESEC in Namibia is a new entity, founded in June 2013. We are currently active in three

universities in Namibia’s capital Windhoek, one being a new expansion that will have their

first member recruitment in the beginning of next year. The academic year as well as the

terms of the LC EBs start in January whereas the MC term runs from July until June each

year.

The MC consists of the MCP plus two MCVPs: MCVP ICX + TM and MCVP OGX + COM. Due to

our high workload and the challenges we face as a new entity, we need CEEDers to support

us with their knowledge and man power to make AIESEC in Namibia a success.

What does Namibia look like?

Namibia is a very dry country with the capital Windhoek lying in between two deserts

(Kalahari and Namib Desert). There are two seasons in a year: a rainy season (December-

march) and a dry season (April-November). The winter (June – August) is generally dry with

degrees during the day up to 25 °C and to minus 4 °C during night. In summer temperature

go up to 40 °C during the day and 15 °C during the night.

But Namibia is not only a dry, sandy empty space! There are so many different landscapes

ranging from the very humid, green Caprivi area, over the dry desert to the coast. As

diverse as the landscape are the people. Even though having the second lowest population

density worldwide with only 2.2 million people on 825,615 km2 the cultural diversity is

high. The majority of the Namibian population is of the Ovambo ethnicity, which forms

about half of the population. Other ethnic groups are the Herero and Himba people, who

speak a similar language, and the Damara, who speak the same "click" language as the

Nama. The official language is English, while Afrikaans and German are known by a big

percentage of the population.
