X-Ray fluorescence wave length dispersive spectrometers SPECTROSCAN MAKC are designed to determine the chemical elements in the range from Na (Sodium) to U (Uranium) in solids, liquids or powders, in solutions and thin films, deposits on filters.

Presently several modifications of spectrometers SPECTROSCAN MAKC are developed and manufactured, that allows the customer to choose the optimal model.

A distinctive feature of X-Ray fluorescence wave length dispersive spectrometers SPECTROSCAN MAKC is the use of original high-aperture X-ray optical scheme. This provides the necessary sensitivity and high energy resolution (ability of separation of closely analytical lines) while preserving desktop device sizes.

UNIVERSALITY. REALIBILITY. SAFETY.

The spectrometer operation is based on irradiation of the sample with primary X-rays generated by X-ray tube, registration of the secondary fluorescence from the sample elements preliminary diffracted on a crystal, and calculation of the elements concentration with the help of calibration equation, which is a relation between the element concentration and intensity of the registered secondary emission from the element. The spectrometer has high resolution of spectral lines and therefore provides accurate determination of elements in complicated multicomponent substances.

The spectrometric channel of spectrometer is evacuated but the samples are located outside the vacuum that allows analyzing substances in solid, powder or liquid state without previous sample preparation.

SPECTROSCAN MAKC GVM is equipped with X-Ray tube a power of 160 W with a side radiation output, goniometer located in evacuated volume, four automatically interchangeable analyzer crystals, two-chambered radiation detector, automated, multi-position sample changer and an integrated PC with touch screen.

A desktop size of the instrument provides a simplicity and ease of operation. Reliability and low maintenance costs are guaranteed. Spectrometers are also free of radiation control.

Operational control of the chemical composition of alloys - the quality assurance of products. Analysis of the chemical composition is usually carried out at a melting control and certification of finished products.

Companies, whose raw materials are alloys, require an input control of the chemical composition of the alloy. The same problem may arise among consumers of metal products at the stage of operation and maintenance.

X-ray fluorescence method can be used to determine a wide range of elements with content ranges from hundredths and thousandths of a percent up to 100%. The element content runs on the calibration curves calibrated on reference samples.

While the alloy analysis, samples must have a disk shape with a diameter of 16-20 mm or 26-40 mm in height and 15 mm. The Surface shall have the same roughness as the calibration sample, which was used for calibration of the spectrometer, but not less 64 microns.

All modifications of SPECTROSCAN MAKC are suitable.

Only 5% of raw material delivered for industrial processing is converted into final products, all the rest are wastes. Therefore additional treatment of refuses, slacks and other wastes is widely used now and requires elemental analysis at each state of production.

Slack and refuse analysis

All modifications of SPECTROSCAN MAKC are suitable.

When grading the secondary metallurgy products in warehouses, as well as incoming inspection of raw materials in the metal industry, quite often there is the problem of determination the grade of material. Such problems are successfully solved at scanning models of “SPECTROSCAN MAKC” using the method of fundamental parameters.

May be determined all elements in the range of magnesium to uranium in alloys based on aluminum, iron, nickel, copper, titanium, and others.

The test method is developed in accordance with EN ISO 20847:2004 “Petroleum products - Determination of sulfur content of automotive fuels - Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry”.

ISO 20847:2004 specifies an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) test method for the determination of the sulfur content of motor gasoline, including that containing up to 2,7 % (m/m) oxygen, and of diesel fuels, including those containing up to 5 % (V/V) fatty acid methylester (FAME), having sulfur contents in the range 30 mg/kg to 500 mg/kg.

The standard pays special attention to the lower end of the concentration range covered by ISO 8754, which specifies sulfur contents determination from 0.01 mass % up to 5.00 mass %.

ISO 20847:2004 is not applicable to leaded motor gasolines, lead-replacement gasolines containing 8 mg/kg potassium to 20 mg/kg potassium, or to products and feedstocks containing lead, silicon, phosphorus, calcium, potassium or halides at concentrations greater than one-tenth of the concentration of sulfur measured.

No sample preparation is required for analysis. The sample in a sample cup is exposed to primary X-ray tube emission in spectrometer. Countrate of S-Kα emission is measured. Sulfur content is determined with calibration curve for the given concentration range.

Determination of the following elements

Sulfur determination in petroleum and petroleum products ISO 20847-2010

While production, transportation, petroleum refining and production of oil products some there are some tasks for determination of chemical elements that affect the refinery process or define product’s quality and characteristics. The following describes the possibilities of spectrometers while solving various analytical tasks in Petrochemistry.

The standard EN ISO 20884:2004 «Petroleum products - Determination of sulfur content of automotive fuels - Wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry». According to that standard WDXRF analyzer SPECTROSCAN SW-D3 was developed.

This standard specifies a wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) test method for determination of sulfur content of liquid, homogeneous automotive fuels from 5 mg/kg to 500 mg/kg, which have a maximum oxygen content of 2.7% (m/m). This product range covers diesel fuels containing up to 5% (V/V) fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and motor gasolines.

If there is a need of determination of low sulfur content from 0, 0003% also a wavelength dispersive vacuum analyzer SPECTROSCAN MAKC GVM may be used.
