Safety at sea is not restrained to the equipment itself, but also extended to the operator´s knowledge of how to use it properly. Bridge equipment is increasingly becoming more and more sophisticated and integrated, making the successful and safe operation reliant on skilled users. We strive to provide high quality training solutions, and give you valuable knowledge of the equipment, which enables safe navigation. To ensure high quality training, you will be taught by our skilled master mariners (with valid COC), instructors and assessors and get an excellent balance of both practical and theoretical training. FURUNO MARITIME TRAINING is ISO9001/18001 certified and focuses om continuous improve-ment and high quality products. We are approved to conduct maritime education and training by the Danish Maritime Authority covering ECDIS.

Course and serviCe portfolio

We offer classroom training in both generic courses and FURUNO type specific courses as well as navigational related services. Our IMO Model Course 1.27, IMO Model Course 1.32 and Ice Navigation course are compliant with the STCW Convention and approved by the classification society DNV GL. Customized courses and services can be made to your specific requirements in relation to course content as well as preferred location and time.

our training faCility

The training facility is located in Hvidovre, only 20 minutes from Copenhagen city centre and Copenhagen Airport. It is equipped with two full mission simulators (DNV-GL Class S) and two class rooms, each with eight ECDIS workstations of either FEA-2X07 or FMD-3X00 models.

Our courses have a maximum of eight participants, where all will have an individual training unit available, in order to ensure the best possible learning.

Generic training course

This training course will provide you with knowledge of how to navigate and operate safely in polar waters and complies with the STCW Code as amended.

The content of this training course consists of both theoretical lectures, discussions and series of demonstrations as well as training exercises in a full mission simulator.

The training course is developed in corporation with ice pilots having more than 40 years of experience navigating in arctic waters.

We are able to offer this training course at your preferred location.

Content: The training provides in depth understanding and practical exercises within the following topics:

• Ice types and terminology. • Ice physics: Formation growth and stages of melt.• Polar class ships and characteristics. • Navigating in high latitudes. • Winterization of ship and equipment. • Ship handling in ice.• Safe working operations and mandatory reporting systems.• Mandatory safety and environmental measures as described in

the IMO Polar Code.• Convoys and icebreakers.

This course will provide you with basic knowledge and the qualifications to execute, administer and supervise proper onboard assessments in accordance with the IMO Model Course 1.30 and the requirements of STCW Code as amended.

The content of the training course consists of both theoretical lectures, discussions and series of demonstrations and includes the principles of developing and implementing a shipboard assessment system.

This course will provide you with advanced trai-ning in all functionalities of the FURUNO ECDIS, including extended route planning and training in a full mission simulator. The course complies with the IMO Model Course 1.30 and the STCW Code as amended.

The content of the training course consists of both theoretical lectures, discussions and series of de-monstrations and covers the principles of devel-oping and implementing a shipboard assessment system. It also includes assessor exercises in a simulated environment.

Relevant for: Shore based personnel and senior officers conducting onboard assessment of competence of navigational officers, who operate FURUNO ECDIS.

This training course will provide you with the training required to operate an Integrated Bridge System (IBS) / Integrated Navigation System (INS) under various bridge situations in accordance with the IMO Model Course 1.32. This training course is approved by the classification society DNV GL.

The content of the training course consists of both theoretical lectures, introducing you to the legal and technical aspects of IBS / INS operation and limitations. We focus on active discussions, building on your navigational experiences and technical installations seen from a user perspective. Through series of demonstrations and multiple practical exercises in our full mission simulator, we provide you with the knowledge to operate an integrated bridge safely.

This training course will provide you with the training required to operate ECDIS, when used as the primary source for sea charts. The training course is in compliance with the IMO Model Course 1.27, the STCW 2010 Code as amended. It is also approved by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) and the classification society DNV GL.

The content of the training course consists of both theoretical lectures, introducing you to the legal aspects of ECDIS compliance. We focus on active discussions, building on your navigational experiences. Through series of demonstrations and multiple practical exercises in our full mission simulator, we provide you with the knowledge to operate the ECDIS safely.

This course is also considered as FURUNO ECDIS type specific training.

Content: The training course includes: • Principal types of ECDIS systems (e.g. differences between

ECDIS and ECS) and their display characteristics.• Understanding and operational use of Electronic Navigational

Charts (ENC) and Raster Navigational Charts (RNC) as well as chart updating.

• Setting up and maintaining display, route planning, route monitoring and alarm handling.

• Records in the ship’s log and electronic logs. • Detection of misrepresentation of information and factors

affecting system performance and accuracy, including the risks of over-reliance on ECDIS.

• Full mission simulator exercises.

3rd party onBoard navigational assessMent

Service

To ensure continuous improvement of navi-gational competences supporting safe navigation our experienced master mariners, instructors and assessors offer to conduct external onboard navigational assessments.

The aim of the assessment is to identify knowledge gaps and to provide you with recommendations which can help you improve your navigational safety.

Our approch is not the same as with an audit. Focus is on educating and advising - not lecturing and instructing. We are driven by best practices and take a holistic approch when studying both personnel, procedures and processes onboard the vessel while doing passage planning, position monitoring and conducting bridge teamwork.

The assessment is in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Code as amended.

Relevant for: Shipping companies interested in 3rd party navigational assessment by qualified assessors.

Duration: The assessment must cover an adequate period and be performed during operational conditions. 4 - 5 days is recommended.

Content: We have a holictic approch, and the assessment could for an example cover:

• Bridge equipment.• Communication equipment. • Distress procedures.• Navigational procedures.• Emergency plan.• Contingency plans.• Company forms and documentation.• Company checklists.

The assessors observations and recommendations will be discussed with the entire bridge team and also with the individual officers.

Assessment report: The assessment is concluded with a detailed and confidential report, which includes evaluation of competences, recommendations and best practices. The rapport is in accordance to the requirements of the STCW Code, section A-I/6.

Service

This event is a great opportunity for your employees to enter the world of a navigator. We facilitate this event in a full mission simulator, thereby creating the perfect environment for increased team performance by developing their communication and cooperation competences.

The content of the day will include an introduction of how to operate a ship and its related equipment in a full mission simulator. Each participant will be assigned different roles throughout the day in simulated scenarios.

We offer to customize the content to your specific needs and the event can be conducted in both English or Danish.

Relevant for: Groups who could benefit from obtaining stronger team competences while being in a different and professional environment - learning while having fun.

Content: The teambuilding event could for an example consist of an introduction to:

• How to use the full mission simulator equipment. • The world of a navigator. • How to manoeuvre and navigate a ship using real life navigational

aids.• How to communicate effectively in simulated scenarios on a

navigating bridge.• How to react effectively and efficiently to sudden changes

as a team. • How to make the best use of your resources in stressed

situations.

Limitations: We can host up to 8 participants per simulator and 16 participants in total. Included in fee: Lunch and refreshments during the training course.

Service

This event is a great possibility for giving shore based personnel at your company a qualified insight in the world of a navigator and navigational instruments.

The content of the event could include introduction to bridge navigation and different equipment, operations and routines. During the day participants will get the chance to try our full mission simulators.

Ensuring you get the wanted outmost from a day with us, we offer to customize the content to your needs only limited by the available equipment.

Relevant for: Shore based staff in a maritime related business, who do not have a maritime background, for an example from a finance, marketing or IT department. Personnel who could benefit from having insight in the world of a navigator, for an example a supplier to the maritime sector.

Content: The Navigational Familiarization Day could for an example consist of an introduction to:

Training courses and services

• Participation in any training course or service requires fully paid fee 7 days prior to commencement, unless a separate agreement is in force.

• If a participant is not able to attend the training course, it is possible to replace with a substitute participant.

• We reserve the right to cancel a scheduled training course up to 30 days prior to the commencement of a course on grounds of too few participants (minimum 4 trainees per training course).

• We reserve the right to make adjustments in the prices for our courses and services as well as our terms and conditions.

Cancellation / refund

• Free of charge / full refund: 30 days before commencement.• 50 % course fee applies: 30 to 15 days before commencement.• 75 % course fee applies: 14 to 7 days before commencement.• 100 % course fee applies: 6 days before commencement or no show.

Hotel and transportation service

• We can assist with arrangement of hotel and transportation. Per default customer pays hotel and transportation costs with credit card / cash.

• Customer must always pay separately for additional services directly to the hotel (dinner, minibar etc.).

• Breakfast at hotel is not included unless otherwise agreed. • If ”no show” at the hotel, the customer will be invoiced for one night.
