1.5 Dealing with Poor Performance

(USD 113909 NQF Level 3, 5 credits) 2 Days

Whether we like it or not, performance issues will always be with us. It is not a straight forward or easy thing to deal with. 1.10 Effective Negotiation Skills

(USD 117853 NQF level 4, 8 credits) 2 Days

Negotiating is used all the time not only for business purposes. For example, we use it in our social lives perhaps for deciding a time to meet, or where to go on a rainy day. Negotiating is a skill and like any skill, can be learnt and developed with training and practice. Being able to negotiate well is essential for many staff at all levels within an organization. It is important to learn how to identify and examine different negotiation techniques. Effective negotiation helps you to resolve situations where what you want conflicts with what someone else wants. The aim of negotiation therefore, is to find a solution that is acceptable to both parties, and leaves both parties feeling that they’ve won, in some way, after the event.

5. Government Specific Workshops

5.1 Values Based Leadership for Local Government (Unit Standard 242824 NQF level 4, 12 credits) 2 Days

There are real challenges facing local government as they attempt to build the country we as South Africans dreamed of at our first democratic election in 1994. Although much has been achieved in the last 15 years, there is still much to be done. To achieve this we need a new breed of leader who is selfless, passionate and ethical. This workshop is about developing this new breed of leader.

“The millions of South African voters made us, their public representatives, the custodians of their hopes and dreams. Our people have high expectations. We will do our best to be more hands-on, more accessible and

to deliver on our commitments.” - President Jacob Zuma

5.2 Transformational Leadership for Local Government (USD 24824 NQF level 4, 12 credits) 2-3 Days This workshop is to support and develop transformational leaders within government and the civil service. With few exceptions, government departments have too much on their plates. The expectation is to deliver much, too fast and mostly with inadequate capabilities. Many of them have made astonishing headway, but there is still major work ahead. Leaders drive change. To achieve the South African vision captured in our constitution, we need LEADERS who can bring TRANSFORMATION at every level of government. This is dynamic and practical at addressing the issues of transformational change, building on the belief that positive change is achievable built by transformed people in organizations and departments.

5.3 Finance, for Non-Financial Managers

(USD 117256 NQF level 3, 4 credits) 2 Days Managers, supervisors in the civil service make decisions every day in the workplace. These decisions have implications on the financial results and value of their entity. If a person does not understand the impact of their decisions, they are unlikely to make decisions which add value to their entity. In fact, their decisions may be destroying value. The goal of this programme is to enhance delegates’ decision-making by improving their understanding of financial statements, and the impact of their decisions.

5.4 Customer Service for Local Government (USD 114974 NQF Level 2, 2 credits) and (USD 242829 NQF level 4, 5 credits) 2 Days Much of the vision of 1994 has been achieved in South Africa over the last nineteen years and yet there is still much to be done. Civil servants are the link between the dream and practical service delivery on the ground. How civil servants interact with their customers and the level of service they provide can add value to, or detract from the effective building of our nation and create either goodwill or huge frustration and anger.

“Service people are the most important in the organisation. Without them there is no product, no sale and no profit. Indeed, they are the product. Service is and should be a high calling.”

- J.W. Marriott Jr. This workshop is about helping civil servants understand their value, the importance of their roles and the crucial part they can play in nation building. It is about self-transformation and not only about the transfer and reinforcing of service related skills.

7. Business Presentations (half day seminars)

7.1. Creating an Engagement Culture in your Work Place Workplace culture is the prevailing atmosphere and set of attitudes that defines a company. It sets the scene for everything that goes on in an organisation, both good and bad. An engaged employee looks for ways to be more productive and make a real difference within an organisation and regards colleagues as valued team members. Low employee engagement produces the opposite results. This workshop explores how managers can create an engagement culture with all its positive spinoffs inside their organization.

7.2. How to Create a Coaching Culture within Your Organisation Organizational cultures are created by leaders and therefore culture change has to be driven by leadership. The days of top down “command and control” leadership are numbered. The future of leadership is the creating of manager/coaches at every level of an organization for real empowerment to take place. This presentation motivates why it is necessary and highlights how to put a strategy in place to build a coaching culture within any organization.

7.3. Maximizing Your Training Impact This presentation helps business leaders to understand the factors that contribute towards the limited impact on people in the workplace after most training interventions. It then highlights practical ways to change that and to ensure the maximum potential success for your training strategy.

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” - Alvin Toffler

7.4. Developing a Talent Development Program for Your Organisation This is a framework which enables you to retain and grow your own leaders by identifying and developing your high potential leaders. It is not a program but a development strategy that, if implemented, will significantly impact your organization. 8. Qualifications
