YEARBOOK - 2012-2013
The yearbook is being sent to the printing com-
pany and our much anticipated Morning Glory
P.S. yearbook should be available the week of Halloween. If par-
ents did not pre-order a yearbook some additional copies will be
available on a first-come first-serve basis for $7.00.
Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is up and running! All students are welcome to
drop by the kitchen between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. for a light, healthy
breakfast. If you would like to volunteer to help once a week, once a
month or as a backup we would love to hear from you! Please contact
the office.
Police Vulnerable Sector Checks
and
Volunteering at YRDSB Schools
The Board’s polices were reviewed with administrators during our
September administration meeting and the expectation of the
YRDSB is that all volunteers who enter YRDSB schools and/or par-
ticipate in school based functions will have a PVSC.
This will create many challenges for some schools. Especially for
schools like MGPS where a low volunteer rate already exists. The
money is also an issue.
I am pleased to inform our volunteers that Ms. Robinson and I will
be delighted to write letters for our volunteers to obtain a volun-
teer PVSC. MGPS will also cover the cost of the PVSC for any vol-
unteers who are committed to helping out at the school regularly.
Message From The Front Office
On October 1st we will be thrilled to welcome
back Mrs. Joanne Harris who will be assuming
Mr. Lorbetskie’s responsibilities during his ab-
sence to have hip surgery. He expects to return
healthy and full of energy in a couple months.
Mrs. Harris and Ms. Robinson worked together
while they were both at W. J. Watson P.S. Mrs. Harris has just re-
cently retired from Mount Albert P.S. and she is excited about the
opportunity to work with everyone at Morning Glory Public School.
We have enjoyed another fabulous start to a new school year.
Students have been taking advantage of the wonderful fall weather
and participating in many of the extra curricular and inter-school
programs that staff continue to offer. The place is an absolute buzz
during our recess periods. We also appreciate the support that you
have given the school as we have had to make some difficult decisions
in meeting Ministry Compliance Regulations as they affect class sizes
and placements. We look forward to a great year and the learning
opportunities that lie ahead.
Sincerely,
C. Robinson and A. Lorbetskie
Electronic Newsletter and School Information
Want a copy of the newsletter emailed to you? Send me your child's
and teacher’s name along with you email address to
[email protected] . Want to be removed from the list
and you send an email asking to be removed from the newsletter dis-
tribution list. It’s that easy.
During the week of Sept. 30th —
4th our students and staff will
participate in safety activities to
increase their awareness of our
Safe Schools Policy and students’
ability to react to an emergency situation. Students will prac-
tice in a Lockdown Drill to know what to do during an intruder
alert or an extreme weather situation. A fire drill will also be a
part of the safety activities and is one of six that will be held
throughout the year. This is an important part of our work with
students and it will continue throughout the year. Students will
have the opportunity to practice and learn about safety
through fire drills, VIP programs, Police and Fire Department
visits and through the delivery of the Health Curriculum.
Reminder to All Parents and Visitors.
All visitors to Morning Glory must check into the office. When
any student arrives late they are to be signed into the office
and given a late slip. All students in JK/SK will be taken to
class with a staff member. Parents are
asked to refrain from walking students to
class; the office can call into the classroom to
let the teacher know a late student is on
their way. If you are signing out your stu-
dent early please wait in the lobby or the of-
fice for your child to come from class.
All parent volunteers must have a Vulnerable
Sector Screening Check done in order to vol-
unteer in the school. Information is available
through www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca.

Halloween Celebrations! Each year, our students celebrate the longstanding tradition of
Hallowe’en. At this time, it is important to remember that the
York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy
#668.0 in accordance with the Ontario Safe Schools Act, in-
cludes the following mandatory expulsion criteria: A student shall be expelled from school if the student commits one or more of the following infractions while at school or engaged in a school-related activity (as set out in the Ontario Code of Conduct): A) possessing a weapon or replica weapon, including a firearm. Students celebrating this occasion in costume at our
school must comply with the above stated
policy. Costume accessories including, but
not limited to, toy guns, knives, axes,
swords, etc.. are not in compliance with
York Region District School Board’s Safe
Schools Policy #668.0. Please note that
the above policy applies to all students
at all levels, including Kindergarten.
