2 and 3 zonesThe system is based on a number of zones. For the trip from the airport to the centre you will need a three zone ticket. When travelling around in the inner city, you usually only need two zones.
Valid for an hourTwo and three-zone tickets are valid for one hour’s travel from the moment it is issued and validated. So you can hop on and off as much as you like as long as you begin your last journey within the valid time.
Sales pointsYou can purchase single tickets and City Passes from the Metro ticket machines located in all Metro stations. The machines accept Danish coins and all major credit cards. Alternatively you can purchase tickets from the train ticket outlets or go to 1415.dk where you can buy tickets online.
TimetableThe Metro runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the daytime every 2– 6 minutes, at night every 15 – 20 minutes.
Don’t travel without a ticketYou cannot buy tickets on the Metro train (or train for that matter), so please buy a ticket before you get on, otherwise you may face a fine of DKK 750.

The Metro, bus and train services have a fully integrated ticket system in greater Copenhagen – when you buy a ticket for the Metro you can use it on the buses and trains as well.

City PassBuy a City Pass and travel as much as you like on the Metro, bus and train within zones 1 - 4 (this includes all of central Copenhagen and journeys to and from the airport). There are two versions, 24 hours and 72 hours. Order at 1415.dk/citypass
Copenhagen CardWith a Copenhagen Card in hand, you can travel for free in all of the Copenhagen area. You also have free entry to about 75 museums and attractions, and discounts on restaurants, car hire, shops and sights.

To and from the airport?The Metro is the fastest way of getting to and from the airport. Buy a 3 zone ticket, hop on, and 14 minutes later you are at Kongens Nytorv in the heart of Copenhagen.
If you want to go to Copenhagen Central Station or the western part of Copenhagen City, you are better off taking the train.

Beach lifeGet on the Metro in the centre of Copenhagen and 8 minutes later you are at the city beach. In 2005 a two-kilometre-long artificial beach island was opened to the public. Depending on the weather you will find people swimming, kayaking, roller-skating, jogging, etc. On windy days the beach is popular with wind- and kitesurfers.
Metro station: Amager StrandTurn right when you leave the Metro station and walk straight ahead.
ChristianiaChristiania is an autonomous neighbourhood which is situated on the island of Christianshavn. It was created by squatters in 1971 and it still attracts people with an alternative lifestyle. Today around 1000 people live there. Have a stroll around this green area and be inspired by the self-made houses. You will also find a variety of eco-restaurants, workshops, galleries and music venues.
Metro station: ChristianshavnFollow the main road away from the canal. Turn left when you come to Prinsessegade. The entrance is about 400 metres on the right.
Den Blå Planet – National Aquarium DenmarkDen Blå Planet is Northern Europe’s largest aquarium and holds more than 20.000 fish and ocean animals. Experience hammerhead sharks swimming together with rays and moray eels in four millions litres azure sea water. The stunning architecture and unique seaside location is an added bonus.
Metro station: KastrupTurn right as you come down the metro steps and keep walking straight ahead for 600 metres.
Drinks in Nyhavn Nyhavn, “New Harbour”, is a picturesque port area from the 17th century with old coloured houses and cobblestones. This is the perfect place for a drink and always worth a visit to look at the wooden boats and the house where Hans Christian Andersen used to live (no. 20). Strøget – shopping streetStrøget is the longest pedestrian street in Europe and stretches from Kongens Nytorv to the City Hall Square. It offers a mix of shops, cafes and street musicians. If you are looking for a quieter café area, you may find Strædet more pleasant. It runs parallel to Strøget from Amagertorv, the square with the stork fountain.
