IKKI – In today’s modern outposts, the serious work of

cocktail invention reigns. Speakeasies were popular during the 1920s Prohibition era. People

from all walks of life come together, indulge in conversation over drinks. In the late 2000s, the speakeasy concept was revived - and the term has now expanded

to include quirky retro-styled bars, an infatuation with the era.

Bryan Loo, Creator of Ikki and Chief Executive of Chatime

Asia.

THE SOCIAL – A simple, personal belief and passion in bringing people together over food & drinks. To unwind and let loose with friends and enjoy over drinks, good food and a great atmosphere. So hey, where shall we lepak? We provide the fundamentals towards a winning formula of running a successful restaurant and bar concept.

APRIL 30 2015: TREC [Taste, Relish, Experience, Celebrate] – Following the first wave announcement of tenants, TREC is unveiling Malaysia’s biggest speakeasy F&B venue, Ikki – and The Social – that are set to open at Electric Boulevard in the third quarter.Electric Boulevard – A high energy, highly-charged street destination Electric Boulevard is inspired by the bright lights, big city atmosphere. It comprises two blocks of inter-connected, double-storey outlets of contemporary design – 35 units [1,400 - 4,000 sq ft] in total – which house entertainment outlets such as bars, bistros, eateries and lounges, making it an ideal destination for after-work gatherings. Dramatically lit by multi-coloured neon and LED lights, with pulsating music as its backdrop, this is a magnetic entertainment destination that allows customers to bar hop, exploring the eclectic mix of venues. The new addition of Ikki and The Social add to a 90% tenant occupancy at Electric Boulevard. Ikki and The Social joins the current collection of

new F&B venues Artebar; Friendscino Restaurant & Bar; The Scene by Pisco; Live House; TBF & Co; Mango’s & Route 66; and luxury German car brand Mercedes-Benz, which would take up a commercial space for its spanking new showroom.

I K K I + H A C H A M E C H A An adventurous concept by Bryan Loo of Chatime Asia, the F&B doyen would once again break new ground with the RM1.5-million Ikki. Occupying a double-storey unit over 3,000 sq ft, this is Malaysia’s biggest speakeasy-styled venue. Ikki [which means drinking in a gulp in Japanese], the modern day speakeasy is located on the first floor, while Hacha Mecha [which means state of chaos in a fun way in Japanese] is on the ground floor. At Hacha Mecha, the clean, minimalistic interior is a reflection of its modern contemporary Japanese cuisine. The gastrobar will curate a modern Japanese-influenced menu, using European and

continental culinary methods. While food is the main highlight at Hacha Mecha, the accompanying bar on the same floor will feature a spectacular collection of Japanese sakes and whiskies. Late-night crawlers, take note: A yatai, or a mobile food kiosk, at its alfresco will serve delectable comfort food and takeouts such as deep-fried fluffy tempura, piping hot udon, yakitori, chazuke and more, from midnight to 4am.

I K K I + H A I G C L U B From Hacha Mecha, go through a hidden door and with a password [obtainable via Ikki’s mobile app] lets you into the British-styled speakeasy. We want to bring Ikki to the forefront of experiential dining and F&B. “There will be three mixologists who would be our assets and would champion Ikki’s concept.”

T H E S O C I A L Homegrown brand The Social will set foot at TREC, adding another venue to its growing F&B portfolio. Known for its casual dining and laid-back atmosphere, The Social is a must-visit destination that boosts of a lush alfresco setting at TREC.Modern chic in its design, The Social at TREC is expected to draw a wide-ranging demographic, particularly those in the 25-40 age group. Its menu will cater to a diverse palate, with an international selection with a hint of British influence.Ekachai Urairat, Director of Bluefire Malaysia, says: “TREC is a brilliant concept which possesses all the elements that would draw the ‘Social’ crowd – urban, hip and young. “Being close proximity to KL’s new financial heart, upcoming Ikea/Ikano Megamall and Zouk KL, plus great views of the Royal Selangor Golf Course, we’re confident TREC will draw an exceptional crowd.”

TREC’s Managing Director and Founder Cher Ng says: “We are very excited to have an innovative concept like Ikki and the very popular eatery-bar The Social at Electric Boulevard, which will raise the bar in F&B offerings in the city at TREC. As we gear up with the near completion of Electric Boulevard, these establishments will further shape TREC as how we have envisioned it to be.”

With Ikki and The Social, Electric Boulevard comprises eight new and established brands in KL. The remaining tenants will be announced closer to its Phase 1 launch in August. TREC, managed by TREC Holdings, is a jointventure between Ng, prominent businessman Dato’ Douglas Cheng and public-listed Berjaya Assets. Its five zones are Electric Boulevard, Alcove, The Hive, The Terraces and Zouk KL, which will open in the second quarter.

The development of TREC is earmarked as oneof designated entertainment zones that wouldreceive support for its development under the KL Tourism Master Plan 2015-2025. This adds to TREC’s 2014 endorsement where the 7-acre development was designated as one of the nation’s National Key Economic Areas [NKEA] project. NKEA comprises selected sectors of economic opportunity for the private sector that will drive Malaysia towards high-income status and global competitiveness. Ng adds: “We are looking forward to the opening of TREC at the end of 2015, as the development of the rest of the remaining zones is taking shape.”TREC, which aims to attract 1.7m visitors annually, is projected to generate RM140m [US$39.2] in receipts annually and create 1,500 new jobs.
