Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Fall is probably my favorite time of the entire year. I love it when the mornings are crisp and the days

still get warm. I enjoy the vibrant colors of fall even when it means raking up the leaves. This time of the year

brings back wonderful memories of playing soccer, jumping in the leaves, and being in the high school

marching band. The air even smells differently this time of year. The changing of the seasons in the fall gives

me a chance to appreciate not only God’s beauty, but the memories, experiences, and friendships I’ve made

I do that, I am so appreciative of God’s work in our midst and the people in this congregation who make those

ministries possible.

You have already gotten word that we are having our annual congregational meeting again this year on

Sunday, November 17th, and the congregational luncheon that will precede it. This meeting is a chance for us to

pause, breathe, celebrate, and appreciate the work that God has been doing in our midst and that God will

CHILDREN’S WORSHIP BAGS

Worship bags are available outside the sanctuary. These bags, available for any children to take with them into

worship, contain a variety of books and activities for children to make use of. TSLC wants children and their families to feel welcome in worship,

and we hope these bags are one way to enrich the kids’ experience and give caregivers a helping hand.

COMING UP IN WORSHIP

Each week we gather at 8:00 am and 10:30 am for worship on Sunday mornings, and again on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. Below are some special highlights in worship this month.

GETTING READY FOR ALL SAINTS SUNDAY

All Saints Sunday is on Sunday, November 3rd. In the waters of baptism God

washes us and grants us the title of Children of God and saints. This is especially

a day to remember the saints of all times and places. On All Saints Sunday you

are invited to bring a picture of loved ones to place in the windowsills around

the sanctuary. These pictures serve as a reminder of those faithful saints who

came before us. During the service there will be a moment to light candles in

memory of loved ones as we have done the past few years. As we gather around the table with the

saints of all times and places, we also have an altar linen, located in the narthex, that you can write

the names of loved ones on for a few weeks leading up to All Saints Sunday.

THANKSGIVING WORSHIP

Later in November comes the Thanksgiving holiday. As a congregation we will gather on

Tuesday, November 26th for a Thanksgiving worship service at 7pm. It is a special

opportunity during the week of Thanksgiving for us to return our thanks and praise to the

One to which it is due, God. Because the Thanksgiving Service will be on Tuesday evening,

there will be no regular Wednesday evening worship service on November 27th.

LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE

The weeks leading up to Christmas are often marked by expressions of joy, excitement,

and happiness. It’s a time for family to gather and for churches to worship pointing to the

hope that is found in the coming of the Christ child. We need to remember that for some

people those feelings of joy and excitement can often be overshadowed by pain and grief

during this time of the year. That pain may include grief over the loss of a loved one,

struggling with mental health issues, missing family, and many other factors. On Sunday,

December 22nd at 3pm we are having a worship service that is designed to leave some

space to acknowledge the difficulty this time of year can bring in people’s lives.

DIRECTORY PICTURES – A NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY IS COMING!

Don’t forget to sign up to get your picture taken for the church directory. You can sign up online, or in the narthex on Sunday mornings from October 20th through November 17th. If you did not receive the email with the directory link, contact the church office. A new directory is an important tool for ministry. It will help us get to know other people in the congregation and is a good way for us to connect with new people in our faith community. So, please be sure to sign up for a time. Pictures will be taken November 18, 20, 21, and 22, 2:00-9:00 p.m., in the YAH Room. (Call the church office for the link to be emailed to you.)

Council Meeting Highlights

Church Council met on Tuesday, October 1st. Below is a list of highlights and actions from the meeting. - Carolyn DeStephano, a retired ELCA pastor and member of TSLC, has accepted the visitation pastor role and has begun her work. - Our new organ is now fully funded and is scheduled to be completed by the manufacturer in early January; which means it will most likely be installed before the end of January. - We are still seeking additional nominations for Church Council members. The deadline for nominations is the end of October. - TSLC is also looking for Synod Assembly Voting Member nominations. - Council needs to identify a new member for the annual financial audit committee; this involves a three-year

commitment. - Thanks to the generous contribution authorized by Gerald R. Forry from the Thelma H. Forry estate in the

amount of $36,793, the new TSLC organ has been completly funded! Many thanks and prayers of appreciation for all those TSLC members that contributed to the new organ, a material instrument in TSLC’s worship and music ministries!

- A motion was made and adopted that Church Council recommend to the congregation at the November 17, 2019 Annual Congregational Meeting that the Proposed Annual Budget as presented by the Finance Committee, be adopted as presented.

Trindle Spring Lutheran Church Safety and Security Taskforce

November Newsletter

As I am writing this, we are 5 days past having completed the first Fire Drills during our Church

Service in many years. I am glad to say we all made it out safely! I want to thank everyone for

“playing along” and the Taskforce members for being there for two services to watch and help. I

realize a fire drill lacks the sense of urgency, but practicing will help, should we ever, God forbid,

have an actual emergency. Watching as we evacuated, it went smoothly. I saw some members

helping others who had some problems walking to get out safely. That’s great, that’s what will

serve us well in actual emergencies; members helping members. Our Ushers will be busy in an

emergency, directing the flow of members to get out safely. We must depend on and help each

other out.

While not a concern in church, a security concern for our church family I want to mention is the

number of scam phone calls we now receive. Please do not give personal information out over the

phone to unknown persons. As an example: The IRS will never send police to your house if

you don’t give them the numbers off I-tunes gift cards. Even our cell phones are not safe

anymore. I recall when the only cell phone calls we would receive were from people we gave our

number to. That has changed as now we receive calls some just to make sure they are active cell

phone numbers If someone answers they know it’s an active line. They even have the ability to

change how their phone number appears to make it appear to be from someone you may know.

Moral of the story is just be careful of any and all information you give out over the phone.

As always if you have any questions please email at [email protected] or call me at

717-418-9370.

Stay safe!

Dennis Stoner Paramedic

As an aside from the church office – You will never receive an invoice from me to your email! I

will never ask you for your credit card information! Be vigilant on the emails you receive and the

PDF’s/attachments you open. Always call the church office if you feel any email seems suspicious

to you. Sadly, our office email has been used to the church family in the past for Phishing

attempts. The hackers may try again at some point again in the future.

Thank you,

Advent Event / Hanging of the Greens – Welcome the Advent Season with an afternoon of fellowship!

The Fellowship Committee will be hosting an Advent Event on Sunday, November 24th at 3:00. We will

be starting the afternoon by creating some wonderful seasonal crafts to use during the holiday season as

well as several “crafty” service projects. For those of you that are not quite so “crafty”, we will be using

this time to decorate the sanctuary for the Advent season. After we have completed the crafts and

decorating, we will join together for a short service and carol sing followed by a pot luck dinner. All types

of crafts will be available, even some geared specifically for those adult crafters who are up for a challenge.

All crafts will be displayed on a table in the narthex along with a sign-up sheet to indicate which of the

crafts you would like to do. We especially need some man-power to help with some of the more difficult

decorating tasks. We will have a separate sign-up sheet to indicate the # of people attending, whether you

will be doing crafts, service projects, or decorating, and what each would be willing to bring for the dinner.

Drinks will be provided by the committee, but we are looking forward to sharing all sorts of good “pot

luck” dishes provided by the participants. Deadline for signing up is November 10th. Don’t miss this

opportunity to start the Advent Season by sharing in fun and fellowship with your family at Trindle Spring.

SMALL GROUP ADULT BIBLE STUDY ON ROMANS CONTINUES.

Please join us for a study of the book of Romans

weekly on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. All are

welcome so please bring a friend. We are

journeying and sharing life together while

connecting with our Lord and Savior. No

preparation is necessary and you do not need to

attend all of the sessions to benefit from our

study. That's correct, we will progress at our

own pace, spending as much or as little time as

our journey takes. Our study sessions will

usually only last an hour. The discussion

focuses on the applicability of Paul's teaching in

Romans to our lives as Christians in a world in

which we are called to live in the Spirit.

Please contact Jason L. Swartley at

[email protected] with any questions about

the study.

Dear folks at Trindle Spring, I wish you all a very warm welcome in Christ! My

name is Daniel Collins, and I'm a second-year student at

ULS Gettysburg. I'm originally from Baltimore,

Maryland, although I'm familiar with Mechanicsburg as I

went to Messiah College! I've lived and worked in Spain

and France while working on my degree in History and

Spanish at Messiah. I grew up Baptist, but during my

studies at Messiah I was so impressed with the Lutheran

Church that I felt led to join, and eventually to pursue

ministry within it. I am impassioned for studying the

Bible, especially the gospels, and look forward to

exploring the scriptures with you all. You can find me on

a regular day reading or exploring cool sites here in

Central Pennsylvania with my girlfriend, Amelia. Among

our favorites are the Gettysburg

Battlefield, the Michaux State

Forest, and the Boiling Springs

Duck Pond. I look forward to

getting to know the Mechanicsburg

community even more as a

ministerial student at your church,

and I thank you for your welcome.

SHAWL MINISTRY

The Shawl Ministry will be meeting on November 10th

at 3:00 PM in the church lounge. We come together to

knit, to crochet, and to work on looms to make a variety of

prayer gifts: blankets to welcome new babies, shawls and

blankets to comfort the sick and the grieving, and a

variety of prayer gifts to send God’s love to children all

over the world, to the homeless and to victims of national

disasters.

If you could help in this ministry by using your knitting or

crocheting skills (looming too), if you are interested in

learning any of these skills, if you could help by cutting

plastic bags into strips for homeless mats, or if you would

just like to check out what the Shawl Ministry does,

please join us at our next meeting. All are welcome.

Remember to let us know if you know of anyone - family,

friend, or acquaintance, who would enjoy receiving one of

our prayer gifts so contact us through any committee

member or the church office.

“Let the pleasure of the Lord be on us. O, Lord, give strength to the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17

TSLC ORCHESTRA READY FOR YEAR 5!!!

It's time once again to dust off those instruments and

get ready to join other TSLC musicians for our annual

Christmas orchestra! The TSLC Orchestra will be playing

prelude music for the 8:30pm Christmas Eve service.

All those who have played with the orchestra before

should have received an email from Danielle Erdley to

discuss possible rehearsal dates and times. If you haven't,

please contact her ASAP. If you have not played with the

orchestra before but would like to, please contact Danielle

so she can add you to her list. Musicians of all ability

levels are welcome!!!! Whether you are in 4th grade and

just started playing, a retiree who hasn't touched their

instrument in 20 years, or someone who plays every week

- we have a place for you!

Music will be passed out in early November and

rehearsals will begin after Thanksgiving. We hope this

will be the orchestra's biggest year yet!

-Danielle Erdley, Music Director

(From 9/23/2019) TSLC Family, I want to thank those involved in making the lap

blanket, presented to me by Sandy Breech, which

was made by Kathy Seagrist.

I also want to thank Lawrence Rider for the

Christmas tree ornament.

The humorous notes sent by Howard & Beverly

Hertzler were greatly appreciated.

I also want to thank all who have asked about me,

and their prayers.

-Steve Westby

-Church Office

Dear Trindle Spring Lutheran Church. Thank you for investing in sharing the life-changing wisdom of the Bible. May God work through each of us to help bring His light into dark and needy places so that many will be drawn to His love. Gratefully,

-Rick DeHaan President - Our Daily Bread Ministries (Gift received- $90.00)

12th Annual Congregational Retreat “Be Thou My Vision” - 2020

Our theme this year will revolve around Vision. What is Vision? Why is it important for the church to have Vision? How does the Word help us to focus our Vision? These are some of the questions we will be exploring over our weekend retreat. Our retreat will be held over the weekend of February 14, 15, and 16, 2020 at Camp Nawakwa. Mark your calendars and plan to spend a weekend with your church family. There will be sessions of learning, time set aside for devotions, Sunday worship, games, food, and time to relax. There will be a prayer labyrinth for all to enjoy at your leisure. It is not necessary to have attended the retreat in a past year to fully experience and enjoy this upcoming weekend. Child-care will be provided. Get to know other members of your church family. Spend some quiet time with the Lord. There are places where you can be quiet or talk or play games with others. Copies of the registration form will be available at the church and on-line. The Retreat Planning Committee looks forward to seeing you there!
