Tropical Plants – Plumeria Flowers In Chicago – Plant Hardiness Zone 5

The following plumeria flowers are the result of growing plumeria plants from seeds, unrooted cuttings and rooted plants both indoors and outdoors in Chicago, plant hardiness zone 5.

Plumeria plants not only make wonderful tropical plants for outdoors during the warmer months of the year but are also beautiful indoor flowering tropical plants during the colder months provided with proper growing conditions.

Petals of plumeria flowers range from wide to narrow and elliptical to oval with pointed, rounded or tapering tips.

In addition, the petals of plumeria, frangipani flowers may be highly, moderately, slightly overlapped, or not overlapped at all.

The wide variety of colors for plumeria flowers include gold, orange, pink, rainbow, red and yellow, to name a few.

Plumeria, frangipani flowers are known for their exquisite frangrances which include citrus, coconut, gardenia, jasmine and many more.

What Does The Term Mystery Plumeria mean?

Many times plumeria plants which for whatever reason couldn’t be listed by name were referred to as “UNK“, meaning unknown.

Reasons that plumeria plants cannot be listed by name include loss of name tags or they were bought color coded like the one plumeria plant above which is currently blooming indoors in my home in Chicago.

One plumeria grower wrote me that she prefers the term “Mystery” over UNK and I happily agreed.

Since this time I call any plumeria that is unidentifiable Mystery Plumeria.
