Dear Friends,
As a child I used to worry about going back to school after the long summer holiday. What would the new teacher be like? Will my friends still want me to be their friend? Will I find my way and will I be able to do the work? However, the thought that was uppermost was ‘This is a new start, I have learnt more, I will try harder.’
Our underlying fears seem to remain the same what ever age we reach—will I be acceptable? Will people like me? Am I really able? The Good News of the Gospel is that whoever we are, whatever the past has held, with Christ we know that God, our ultimate judge, loves us and failure is never final.
‘The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.’ Lamentations 3vv22&3.
To know this in our hearts is freedom indeed; we can rest in this knowledge and can share it with others in friendship and acceptance. So few people seem to understand this truth and perhaps that is why they retreat into their own little worlds like those portrayed in the British Gas advertisement. But instead of little green pretty planets they become fortress prisons and we lose the ability to relate to one another.
☺Smile — God Loves YOU!
God bless you, Vicky Fleming

SOUTH MARSTON SUMMER FETE A huge thank you to all that came and took part at our Summer Fete
on 12th July. What an enjoyable day we all had, even the weather was
good. The village organisations between them raised just over £2000
profit, what a great success.
Special thanks to
our fantastic
Morris Dancers
who did really well
considering they had
such a short time to
practise their routine.
Well done to you.
Thanks also goes to our helpers on the day – if we didn’t have your help
each year our fete wouldn’t be such a great day, so many thanks to all the
helpers, from putting up the marquees, to car parking attendees, to the
ladies on the refreshments stalls and our BBQ chaps.
AGAIN A BIG THANK YOU AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO
SEEING YOU ALL AT NEXT YEAR'S EVENT

South Marston Parish Council News
Vandalism at the Allotments
Some vandalism at the allotments has been reported to the Parish Council by the newly formed South Marston Allotments Association. This happened on either the Sunday or Monday evening of 2nd or 3rd August. Various crops where damaged by garden furniture being thrown on them and one shed was damaged when a forced entry was attempted.
This is the first time that anyone can remember any vandalism at the allotments so it is really disap-pointing. The incident has been reported to the police so if any-one has any relevant information please report it to them
Eastern Development Area
(EDA) As you may have heard, Swindon Borough Council have finally agreed that we should have an integrated plan for the development of the village.
As a first step we had a meeting with the members of the Working Party from two years ago on 10th August to bring them up to
speed and look at how the matter is best progressed from here.
Attendance was rather disappointing but this was probably due to it being held in the holiday period.
There is a further meeting arranged with members of the Swindon Council planning team and, possibly an independant urban design consultant to be employed by the PC, on the evening of the 25th August. Background information from the Village Strategy work in 2006/7 and up to date information on the EDA issues are available on the village website www.southmarston.co.uk.
Parish Council Vacancies
There are now two vacancies on the Parish Council following the resignations of David Marner last month and more recently of Des Jones.
If you feel that you would like to join the Parish Council, please contact either the Clerk (Roger Powell 827515) or the chairman (Colin McEwen 825312).

Dog Fouling
We are receiving complaints about dog fouling on the playing field. It is clear that many dog owners are ignoring the notices and allowing their dogs to run free which means that they cannot deal effectively with any mess left by their dogs.
There is particular concern about dogs’ mess in the area of the play equipment and the SMRA has asked that notices should be displayed asking owners to keep their dogs out of this area.
We would hope that owners would be responsible enough to comply with these notices.

Downing Street Petition
We have set up a No.10 website petition on the Prime Minister’s
website:
“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to call an
immediate halt to the South West Regional Spatial Strategy whilst both housing numbers are reviewed and greater efforts are made to avoid the development of green field sites at a time when many Towns are becoming increasingly neglected and Government
funding for infrastructure is unavailable.”
Can we ask that you use the go to the website: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/SOUTHWESTRSS/
to sign the petition and ask all of your friends/relatives to do the
same. You will need to fill in your details as prompted and then the
site will send you an email to confirm your ‘signature’ of the petition.
Reply as instructed and your name will be added.
Please do your very best to spread this as widely as possible – all of
this is making a difference. Thank you to for your continued efforts!
