CERT MEETINGNO DECEMBER MEETING

Next meeting January 15 at 5:30 pm

Message from the General Manager Hello residents of VillageWalk Bonita,

Season is here! Most people understand what the word “season” refers to in this part of the country; it’s when residents return to from their northern homes in the U.S. and around the world and settle

into their SW Florida communities to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and mild winter weather. VillageWalk of Bonita Springs is the destination of choice for many seasonal residents, and we believe they have chosen well.

It is the goal of KW Property Management to exceed expectations and go the extra mile to ensure that your stay, whether seasonal or full-time, is as enjoyable and gratifying as we can help to make it.

Lastly, from our brand new pickleball courts to our high tech renovations to our landscape enhancements, the Board of Directors also deserve an immense round of applause for the dedication and commitment they’ve shown towards creating a community that goes above and beyond for its residents. They have worked tirelessly during this last year, and we believe it shows.

As always, our doors are always open to you.

Thank you,

John Rowland, LCAM General Town Manager

HOA Board of Directors Meetings Online Announcing a new way to view the HOA Board of Director meetings each month. You no longer need to be in VillageWalk to access the broadcast live. The new process will replace the use of channel 195 which is only available within VillageWalk. Below is the process to initially setup and access the live streams. You can also use the process to view the recordings of the meetings anytime you wish via the internet.

Setup Process:1. YouTube account- if you do not have a YouTube or Gmail account, go to YouTube.com and follow the Sign In instructions to create one.- if you already have a YouTube account log in to the account. Alternatively, if you have a Gmail account, login to that account. In the upper right hand corner, you will see a 3x3 matrix of dots. Click that and select YouTube to get to your YouTube account.

2. Setup YouTube Subscription- Once you are logged in to YouTube, enter VW AVTeam into the Search.- Click on the link to that YouTube channel.- Once on the channel's page click the Subscribe link.

3. Access live streams- Once you have completed steps 1 and 2 above you can access the live stream of the Board meetings on YouTube. Go to YouTube.com. On the left of the page you will see the option labelled Subscriptions. Click that option. Once the meeting has actually started, a small thumbnail snapshot of the meeting will appear with a box in red that says Go Live. Click that box to view the live stream. Stream will be available as the meetings begin. The thumbnail and Go Live box will not appear until then so if you log on to the page early you will not see these boxes until the meeting starts.

4. Access recorded Board meetings- Within about an hour of the completion of a Board meeting, the video will be available for replay. Go to the VW AVTeam YouTube channel (follow the process in step 3 above). You will see a listing of all available Board meeting replays; simply click the link for the meeting you wish to view. Note that links to the videos will still be available from the VW website.

H .O . A . I N F O R M AT I O N

• No overnight street parking permitted

• Golf carts and bicycle riders MUST give an audible warning when approaching pedestrians. Please SLOW down and pass with care.

• Pedestrians have the absolute right of way at CROSSWALKS. Vehicles must STOP when anyone is within a crosswalk. We have many that have no signs. Be prepared to suddenly stop.

• Please come to a complete STOP at Stop signs. That applies to bicycle riders too, who must obey ALL traffic laws.

• All Golf Carts must be registered with the HOA office, insured and only driven by licensed drivers over the age of 16.

• WILD LIFE- Please do not feed ANY animals. Do not place trash out any earlier than the morning of pick up…it attracts animals.

• Use caution while kayaking/canoeing in our waterways. Swimming is not allowed.

• Please do NOT ride bikes or skateboards on the Town Center walkways. Signs are posted which list the restrictions. These walkways are pedestrian pathways only. Please be mindful of the restrictions; they are in place to protect all our residents.

• Please pick up dog waste and dispose of it properly.

REMINDER

Pool Rules• Pool hours are from dawn until dusk only• No glass • No smoking• Please remember that all food and

beverages must be consumed MORE THAN 10 feet from the pool's edge

• Children 4 years and under must wear a special swimming diaper

Safety Tips In Your Home and CommunityHere are some tips that the Lee County Sheriff’s Office feel you should know. Even though we live in a safe

community there are many outsiders in our community every day. No community is totally secure. Please call 911 in case of emergency, suspicious activity, a person is hurt or in danger.

IN YOUR HOME

• Lock your house whenever you leave it. If you have an alarm system, turn it on when you leave.

• If you do not have a glass door or sidelight install a 180 degree peep hole.

• If you do have a glass door or sidelight and it is not high impact glass, change your lock to have a keyed lock inside. Its easy to break the glass and just turn the knob to unlock the door.

• Keep your garage door closed at all times (also in the VW rules).

• If you have a glass door or sidelight change your dead bolt lock to have a keyed side on the interior. Do not leave the key in the lock.

• When away keep at least one light on inside your home.

• Do not hide keys outside your home. Do not mark your keys with your name or address.

• Do not advertise that you live alone.

• DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR FOR STRANGERS.

IN YOUR CAR

• ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR!

• If you think you are being followed do not drive home. Drive to the nearest police station, fire house or gas station.

• If you have car troubles, raise the hood and stay in the car with the doors locked and windows closed. If someone stops to help and you did not make a call for help, ask them to do it for you. Only crack the window when speaking with them.

• Carry a cell phone.

• Park in well lighted areas.

VillageWalk CERT NO MEETING IN DECEMBERCERT is a group of community volunteers trained by our local fire department to be first responders in emergency situations such as hurricanes and tornadoes. The team is activated by Bonita Springs Fire and Rescue during such emergencies. We meet the second Wednesday of each month at the Town Center. We discuss plans for emergency situations and refresh our training to enable us to better function as a team. We always seek more volunteers to better address emergency events. Residents interested in joining should contact Nicole Hornberger at Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue, phone (239) 949-6227, email [email protected].

If you would like more information or have any questions, please email [email protected].

Grandma’s ClosetGrandma's Closet now has some medical items available. If you have any items you would like to lend, please contact Wendy DeSantis at 440-477-8786 or [email protected]. Grandma’s Closet is a community listing of medical and children’s items that you are willing to share with other homeowners. We all have family who come into town; instead of buying these items why not help someone in need?

The Cancer Crusaders The Cancer Crusaders are a group of VillageWalk cancer survivors, friends and volunteers who are dedicated to helping find a cure for cancer, supporting organizations that provide services to cancer patients, and to reaching out to those in VillageWalk who have been touched by cancer. We offer a forum for survivors, caregivers, and anyone who would like to be involved in the fight or who need support, information and sometimes just a few words of encouragement from “someone who has been there.”

Our Annual High Tea and Fashion Show was held November 14, and it was another resounding success! Our efforts paid off with a total of $ 14,275 being raised for Partners for Breast Cancer Care, beating last year’s amount by $3775! All proceeds have been presented to PFBCC, who provide breast cancer care to uninsured, low-income women and men from Lee, Collier and surrounding counties. They were overwhelmed again by the generosity of our VW residents, and will immediately put this significant funding to work for their clients. Our Fashion Show was hosted by three stores from the Promenade—Jami’s, Well Read Department Store and Coastal Outfitters; please visit their stores and let them know how much we appreciate their support. Lastly, many, many thanks to our two-dozen-plus volunteers, our 16 VW “streets” and 8 VW clubs and organizations, and over 18 VW individual residents and businesses who couldn’t have been more generous with their time and money. It does take a Village!

Each couple or single brings one 750ml bottle of wine, priced at or above $20, for the specified varietal of the evening. A maximum of 8 wines will be numbered for a “blind” tasting. Members are asked to bring a light snack to share. A one-time cost of $10 per person will be collected to help defray the cost of cups, plates etc.

Sample of varietals to include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Red, Zinfandel, and more

26 ~ TALK OF THE WALK DECEMBER 2019

CLUBS

The 2019-20 Bocce Club season is underway! Please note, courts are reserved for Bocce Club league and other play during the week (and on a few Saturdays for tournaments), so please check the bulletin board at the courts for available free time. Registration for new members is open. Please contact [email protected] for registration information. This is a fun sport, for men and women, requiring no special training, athletic prowess or previous experience! Come join the fun!

Please note, bocce courts will be closed for much-needed repairs for approximately three weeks beginning on Dec. 16. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but this work is necessary to restore our courts to the first-class amenity we can be proud of. The surface will remain Har-Tru. Thanks for your patience.

Our first tournament of the season, Fall Back to Bocce With a Friend, was rained out last month. Kudos to the brave souls who attempted to play through the rain, wind and puddles—you tried hard to salvage the tournament, but Mother Nature was having none of it.

Save the dates for our 2020 events, hopefully rain-free: Sunday, January 19* - Mix-It-Up Social at noon at our court-side patio (choosing teams for the next week’s tournament and celebrating our new courts!) - no organized play that day.Saturday, January 25* - Mix-It-Up Tournament - registration 9:30 a.m.Saturday, March 14 - Battle of the Sexes - registration 9:30 a.m.

(*January dates are dependent on the timely completion of the bocce court renovations. Weather and other delays may occur.)

Bocce balls are provided by the HOA in the storage box which opens with the “old” gym key. If you don’t have one, or it doesn’t work, please ask for a new one at the HOA window. Measurers, provided by the Bocce Club, are also in the box. Please do not use the broom if you have not been instructed on the proper method of grooming the courts, and never when the courts are wet. Lastly, please move the scoreboard pegs by holding the bar, not the red and green circles, as they tend to snap off.

BOCCE CLUB

ATTENTION CORVETTE OWNERSNext meeting: Tuesday, December 3rd

Please bring your Club ideas and join us on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Center.

Any questions call John Carter at 630-542-7735.

BIKE CLUB

December Ride Shark Valley Everglades National ParkSunday, December 6, 2019

9:00 am departure from the bocce courts.

Driving to Shark Valley National Park is fairly easy, but will take about 90 minutes to get there. Here’s the address for your GPS: 36000 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33194. Unless you have a National Parks pass, entering the park will cost you $25 per carload or $8 per bicycle if you park outside and ride in. If you have a pass, be sure to bring it.

The 15-mile paved road is ideal for any type of bicycle. The abundant wildlife and expansive views make this one of the best bike trails in South Florida. Look for alligators, anhinga, wading birds, and turtles. Our first stop is the Shark Valley Visitor Center on the north side of the trail for a group photo. The center offers educational displays, snacks, drinks, and restrooms. There is no water along the trail so be sure to bring something to drink during the ride. We will head south along the trail until we reach the southernmost point where there is a lookout tower. We will stop there to check out the view, and then head back.

For lunch, we will stop at the Miccosukee Restaurant, right across the street from the park entrance. The Miccosukee Indian Village is nearby if you wish to check that out before heading home. Their website is www.miccosukee.com

Bike helmets are required. Please RSVP Sam Edsall, [email protected], if you can attend this ride. It would also help me to know if you will join us at 8:00am or 8:30 at CVS. Don’t forget to check tire pressure. Bring your helmet, bike lock, water, cellphone, and sunscreen.

Our courts are in GREAT shape! An outside company is here every evening to maintain our beautiful courts 5 nights/week. If you notice any concerns such as elevated line tape or extremely wet or dry conditions…feel free to send an email to [email protected]

Have you noticed the 4 new Australian Clean Sweep Drag Mats on the tennis courts? Here are some tips:

• After you are done playing, please brush the courts for the next group. Each drag mat has the word UP with an arrow on the metal bar. Make sure the correct side is facing up.

• When finished, please hang the mat vertically on the fence by the doors using the S hook provided. Do not fold it over the short fences. If it becomes kinked it will not function properly.

• How can you tell if the courts are too wet to play on? It’s important to NOT play if there is:

• A “shine” on the surface

• Standing water on the court

• When you walk, it leaves footprints on the surface

• When you push your thumb on the surface, it leaves a thumbprint

Don't have someone to play tennis with? No worries! We have several sessions you can simply 'walk-on' here at VW where ALL levels are welcome!
