2 ~ TALK OF THE WALK SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019

INDEXNEWS FROM NOELLE

It’s Fall y'all!! Time for Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice…

It is with great excitement that the Activities Department announces our 2019/2020 Entertainment and Event Lineup. We are so thrilled to be able to offer great entertainment in our newly renovated Town Center. I cannot wait for our very first dance on our gorgeous hardwood dance floor. These dances begin on September 14th with our Flamingo Fling. The real gem of the Ballroom renovations is our built in stage with professional lighting. This is really going to make a difference during our comedy nights and stage shows.

With all these amazing improvements, we anticipate a rise in attendance for many of our events. Another exciting improvement, in our effort to provide great customer service, is our new website. With this upgraded website and ipad technology throughout the Town Center, we will be able to offer our residents up to the minute accurate information. I hope you will embrace this technology and use it to discover all the services, activities and programs your Activities and Management Team have to offer.

With a new Season beginning, I hope that you will be inspired to volunteer. Volunteers are the heart beat of VillageWalk. Please stop by the activities office if you would like to offer your time and talents.

Our Activities Advisory Committee is currently looking for one additonal member. I prefer a year around resident, who has a creative nature, a desire to volunteer and attends most events. Our committee is made up of incredible “cheerleaders”. Let me know if you are interested in joining the squad.

Finally, Autumn is coming. We will be decorating the lobby of the Town Center on Tuesday, October 1st at 9 am. If you would like to help, please email me at [email protected]

I am delighted to share this Season with all of you. I look forward to creating many unbelievable moments that we will remember for a long time to come.

Smiling With Gratitude,

Noelle

Message from the General Manager Hello residents of VillageWalk Bonita,

As you know, there are several renovation projects going on now in the community. A lot of effort has been put in over the last couple of months in order to enhance the community and offer residents the highest quality amenities possible. We appreciate

your patience very much and believe you will love the finished products once everything is complete.

Hurricane season is in full swing and lasts until the end of November. As much as we are prepared to deal with the common areas, we also ask that residents prepare their own homes and make sure you bring any loose objects into a secure location within your home or garage. If you have a home watch service, ensure they have a sufficient protocol for your home in the event we have a major storm with high winds. Additional information on hurricanes can be found on the VillageWalk website.

Speaking of websites, we are putting the finishing touches on a brand new site for VillageWalk which we will soon be launching. There are many great enhancements to the site and finding the information you need will be much simpler.

Lastly, we would like to recognize CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and their efforts to organize drills so that they are better prepared to help those in the community who may need assistance after a major storm affects the community. I attended one such drill during the month of August, and in short… I have a whole new respect for the volunteer service which they so willingly provide. Hats off to all CERT members and all those who participate in volunteer efforts to assist those in need.

With fingers crossed and three knocks on wood, NO HURRICANES!

John Rowland, LCAM General Town Manager

HOA Board of Directors Meetings Online Announcing a new way to view the HOA Board of Director meetings each month. You no longer need to be in VillageWalk to access the broadcast live. The new process will replace the use of channel 195 which is only available within VillageWalk. Below is the process to initially setup and access the live streams. You can also use the process to view the recordings of the meetings anytime you wish via the internet.

Setup Process:1. YouTube account- if you do not have a YouTube or Gmail account, go to YouTube.com and follow the Sign In instructions to create one.- if you already have a YouTube account log in to the account. Alternatively, if you have a Gmail account, login to that account. In the upper right hand corner, you will see a 3x3 matrix of dots. Click that and select YouTube to get to your YouTube account.

2. Setup YouTube Subscription- Once you are logged in to YouTube, enter VW AVTeam into the Search.- Click on the link to that YouTube channel.- Once on the channel's page click the Subscribe link.

3. Access live streams- Once you have completed steps 1 and 2 above you can access the live stream of the Board meetings on YouTube. Go to YouTube.com. On the left of the page you will see the option labelled Subscriptions. Click that option. Once the meeting has actually started, a small thumbnail snapshot of the meeting will appear with a box in red that says Go Live. Click that box to view the live stream. Stream will be available as the meetings begin. The thumbnail and Go Live box will not appear until then so if you log on to the page early you will not see these boxes until the meeting starts.

4. Access recorded Board meetings- Within about an hour of the completion of a Board meeting, the video will be available for replay. Go to the VW AVTeam YouTube channel (follow the process in step 3 above). You will see a listing of all available Board meeting replays; simply click the link for the meeting you wish to view. Note that links to the videos will still be available from the VW website.

The HOA office will no longer be accepting cash. Checks and Credit Cards only.

DON’T FORGET to wear your helmet while bicycling in the community. For anyone 16 years

or younger, it is a Florida state law!

• No overnight street parking permitted

• Golf carts and bicycle riders MUST give an audible warning when approaching pedestrians. Please SLOW down and pass with care.

• Pedestrians have the absolute right of way at CROSSWALKS. Vehicles must STOP when anyone is within a crosswalk. We have many that have no signs. Be prepared to suddenly stop.

• Please come to a complete STOP at Stop signs. That applies to bicycle riders too, who must obey ALL traffic laws.

• All Golf Carts must be registered with the HOA office, insured and only driven by licensed drivers over the age of 16.

• WILD LIFE- Please do not feed ANY animals. Do not place trash out any earlier than the morning of pick up…it attracts animals.

• Use caution while kayaking/canoeing in our waterways. Swimming is not allowed.

• Please do NOT ride bikes or skateboards on the Town Center walkways. Signs are posted which list the restrictions. These walkways are pedestrian pathways only. Please be mindful of the restrictions; they are in place to protect all our residents.

Safety Tips In Your Home and CommunityHere are some tips that the Lee County Sheriff’s Office feel you should know. Even though we live in a safe

community there are many outsiders in our community every day. No community is totally secure.

IN YOUR HOME

• Lock your house whenever you leave it. If you have an alarm system, turn it on when you leave.

• If you do not have a glass door or sidelight install a 180 degree peep hole.

• If you do have a glass door or sidelight and it is not high impact glass, change your lock to have a keyed lock inside. Its easy to break the glass and just turn the knob to unlock the door.

• Keep your garage door closed at all times (also in the VW rules).

• If you have a glass door or sidelight change your dead bolt lock to have a keyed side on the interior. Do not leave the key in the lock.

• When away keep at least one light on inside your home.

• Do not hide keys outside your home. Do not mark your keys with your name or address.

• Do not advertise that you live alone.

• DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR FOR STRANGERS.

IN YOUR CAR

• ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR!

• If you think you are being followed do not drive home. Drive to the nearest police station, fire house or gas station.

• If you have car troubles, raise the hood and stay in the car with the doors locked and windows closed. If someone stops to help and you did not make a call for help, ask them to do it for you. Only crack the window when speaking with them.

• Carry a cell phone.

• Park in well lighted areas.

EVERYONE IS INVITED

Dining With FriendsTuesday, Sept. 17th & Oct. 22nd • 6:30 p.m.

This year we tried something a little different for August. Instead of everyone cooking something, those of us who were here in the summer all went out to dinner at Leopardi's restaurant. Although there weren't a lot of people back from summer, we had a lovely evening together! A grateful thanks goes to Jeanne Reichenbach for organizing the evening. If you have thought about joining Dining With Friends, it is all about the fellowship, laughter, friendship and of course, food - all in that order! Our September and October Dining With Friends events are currently being planned and you won't want to miss them! The Primary Hosts for September are Terry and Brenda Peters. September's meal will have a tailgate theme. Are you ready for some football? Joan and Sal Tassone will host in October. Please let Diane Eicher or Brenda Peters know if you would like to host (3 or 4 couples) in your home for either of these months. Mark your calendars for Tuesdays, September 17th and October 22nd at 6:30PM. Please R.S.V.P. by September 5th and October 3rd for these events. If you would like to find out what Dining With Friends is all about, or are thinking about joining, please contact Diane Eicher at [email protected] or Brenda Peters at [email protected]. Members are asked to host 6 to 8 people once or twice a year, and either on their own or as a team with others, be the Primary Host and create the menu. All guests enjoy the same menu and share making the recipes. The costs of the meal are all divided up afterward. It is fun and you get to share recipes and try new, delicious food very inexpensively. We would love to have you join us and we welcome you with open spoons!

BIKE CLUB

Immokalee Bike Path & QuarrySaturday, October 19, 2019 9:00 am departure from the bocce courts.

We will ride along the Immokalee bike path, make a loop around The Quarry, then stop for lunch. We will park on Northbrooke Plaza Drive at the small strip mall next to the 7 Eleven.

The Immokalee bike path is about 4 ½ miles one way running along Immokalee Road. To add some scenery, near the end of the path we will turn north and make a large circle through The Quarry development. (We have permission to ride through their development.) Besides the impressive homes in this community, they even have their own beach and boats on a very large lake. We will ride around this lake working our way back to the bike path, then head back. The total mileage for this ride is about 12 miles.

When we are ready to eat, there is a little Italian restaurant where we park called L'Appetito Pizza & Deli. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizza, and pasta.

Bike helmets are required. Please RSVP Sam Edsall, [email protected], if you can attend this ride. If you and/or your bike need a ride, please let me know by October 15. Don’t forget to check tire pressure, bring your helmet, water, cellphone, and sunscreen.

Go through both guard gates to the first parking lot on the right within Barefoot Beach Preserve and walk to the beach. There will be a large yellow flag on the beach marking the VillageWalk location. If you don’t have a Collier County beach parking sticker, there is a parking fee if you go into the park before 5:45 p.m.

Bring your own everything: BUG SPRAY, chairs, towels, umbrella, cooler, drinks, snacks, etc... DO NOT bring glass of any kind. Feel free to bring anything else that you may be interested in doing (games, etc). If you have any questions, email Linda at [email protected] or call her at 920-279-7102 or 239-949-9940.

Sunset Social

With over 300 members, playing on 12 different leagues, bocce continues to flourish in VillageWalk as more and more residents appreciate this easy-to-play and socially rewarding amenity.

Registration for the 2019-20 season (October 14, 2019-April 17, 2020) is now open. New members, or previous members who missed pre-registration in the spring, are invited to join the Club by emailing [email protected] for registration information. Openings for permanent players are available on several different leagues, including a new league on Thursdays @ 10:30, which has been offered in response to the demand for additional permanent slots.

In September, courts are available for open play anytime other than Wednesdays 9-11 for the summer league, and occasional times as posted on the Bocce bulletin board.

Bocce balls are provided by the HOA in the storage box which opens with the “old” gym key. If you don’t have one, or it doesn’t work, please ask for a new one at the HOA window. Measurers, provided by the Bocce Club, are also in the box. Please do not use the broom if you have not been instructed on the proper method of grooming the courts, and never when the courts are wet. Lastly, please move the scoreboard pegs by holding the bar, not the red and green circles, as they tend to snap off.

Have you noticed the 4 new Australian Clean Sweep Drag Mats on the tennis courts? Here are some tips:

• Each drag mat has the word UP with an arrow on the metal bar. Please make sure the correct side is facing up (it should have the small plastic "teeth" pointed UP)

• When done, please hang it vertically on the fence by the doors using the S hook provided.

• The hook should be high enough so the mat is OFF the ground yet not too high that shorter people have difficulty reaching the hook.

• Please do not fold it over the short fences. If it becomes kinked it will not function properly.

• Do not worry that the front row of the Aussie Clean Sweep does not contact the court – it is not designed to do so.

• For grooming the court under wet conditions it can be advantageous to use the Aussie Clean Sweep upside down. This helps prevent Har-tru clogging in the mat.

Don't have someone to play tennis with? No worries! We have several sessions you can simply 'walk-on' here at VW where ALL levels are welcome!
