Lou and Geri Kish served in the U.S. Navy 1960-1963 and were stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station during that time. This is where they met and fell in love. After they separated from the Navy Lou returned to his hometown of Findlay and Geri returned to Hawaii. They enjoy telling the story that it didn’t take long for Lou to send Geri an airline ticket so that she could join him in Findlay. Geri said they saved a lot of money on their phone bills after she was in Ohio with him.

Geri was a Third Class Petty Offi cer Yeoman and part of her time in the service was spent doing clerical work for the Blue Angels. Lou was an Aviation Jet Mechanic Third Class Petty Offi cer by trade but he spent most of his time doing clerical work because leadership found out he knew how to type.

Many people in Hancock County know them as the former owners of Greek Garden and if you’ve ever eaten a “Lou’s Special” from Greek Garden now you know who it was named for.

Lou and Geri have been married since October 1964 and have four children.

FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) — Bird watchers are traveling to Maine to catch the rare sight of a South American fork-tailed flycatcher.

The Portland Press Herald reports the bird known for its black-and-white plumage and long, forked tail came to the Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth.

Maine Audubon Naturalist Doug Hitchcox says the bird was last seen in the state in June 2012. He says the bird would normally be flying south at this time instead of north to Maine.

Hitchcox says the bird was not affected by Hurricane Irma. Still, he says Hurricane Jose could lead to more tropical birds visiting the state.

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (AP) — The late actress Katharine Hepburn’s home along the Connecticut shore has sold for $11.5 million after several years on the market.

William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty agent Colette Harron says the 8,400-square-foot home in Old Saybrook sold Aug. 25. She says the home has six bedrooms and sits on 1.5 acres overlook-ing Long Island Sound.

The buyer’s name has not been dis-closed.

The seller was New York developer Frank Sciame. He bought the original 4-acre property for $6 million in 2004, a year after Hepburn died at the Colonial-style home at age 96. He made extensive renovations and tried to sell the property for $30 million.

A second house built by the devel-oper on a separate 1.3-acre parcel of the original estate remains listed at about $5.9 million.

The Food and Drug Administra-tion has approved the first inhaler that combines three medicines to ease breathing in patients with emphysema or chronic bronchitis.

The FDA approved sales of Glax-oSmithKline PLC’s Trelegy Ellipta late Monday.

The inhaler contains three widely used types of medicine meant to pre-vent flare-ups of the life-threatening breathing disorders.

Once daily, patients inhale the

medicines through their mouth to open breathing passages and reduce inflammation that can make breath-ing difficult in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which includes emphysema and bronchitis.

The British drugmaker is launch-ing the product with a list price of $530 per month. That is $146 a month cheaper than the combined prices of two older GlaxoSmith-Kline inhalers that together contain the same three medicines: Incruse Ellipta and Breo Ellipta.

MENOMEE FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Kohl’s, which is opening some in-store Amazon shops, will start accepting returns for the online retailer at some of its stores in Los Angeles and Chicago starting next month.

Kohl’s Corp. said Tuesday it will

pack and ship eligible Amazon return items for free at the 82 stores offering the service. There will be designated parking spots near the Kohl’s store entrances for those doing Amazon returns. While the service will allow Kohl’s customers to skip their local post

office for Amazon returns, it also gets them into Kohl’s stores — where they might then shop.

The department store had previously announced plans to open 1,000-square-foot Amazon areas in 10 of its stores in Chicago and Los Angeles that will sell Amazon Echos, Fire tablets and other gadgets. Shoppers can also have an Amazon employee come to their home and install a device or suggest smart home products to buy. Best Buy recently launched a similar program, which sends its employees to customer’s homes to recommend electronics.

Department stores have struggled as more people shop online or at discount stores. But despite the growth of online shopping, most retail transactions still take place in physical stores. Analysts have said that being partners with Amazon will give Kohl’s a way to dif-ferentiate itself from other department stores and lure in shoppers looking to buy electronics. For Amazon, it gets its devices in front of more people to try them.

Earlier this year, the owner of Sears and Kmart said it would sell its Ken-more-branded appliances on Amazon.com for the first time.

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — It took nearly 80 years, but a book bor-rowed during the Great Depression has been returned to a Massachusetts public library.

The Attleboro Public Library posted on its Facebook page Thurs-day pictures of a copy of “The Young Lady at Home,” by T.S. Arthur. The book was returned this week. The due date stamped at the back of the book? Nov. 21, 1938.

Library deputy director Amy Rhilinger tells WPRI-TV a man had been cleaning out his friend’s base-ment when he came across the book. She says the library staff thought it was “awesome” the book was returned even though it’s in terrible condition and can’t go back into circulation.

Rhilinger says the library isn’t trying to collect late fees, either. She says they’d amount to almost $2,800.

Better late than never? Library book returned 78 years later

Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold case squad led by Detective Carl Morck, has its hands full with a fresh murder that happens to resemble an unsolved killing from more than 10 years ago. In the new case, an elderly woman has been hit over the head in King’s Garden. Concurrent with the investigation, Rose, one of Morck’s colleagues, seems to have seriously gone off the rails. When we first meet her, she cannot remember the way to work on her scooter.

And if two cases (one cold and one hot) weren’t enough for Department Q

to deal with, it seems that a maniac is intent on committing acts of vehicular homicide on a group of young, out-of-work women.

Is Rose the scarred woman? Is it a bland social servant who decides to go on a killing spree and researches the best way to carry out her murders by looking on the internet? Or could it be the elderly victim or even one of the unemployed young women?

Adler-Olsen clearly has a sense of humor. There are moments through-out the novel when Morck’s workmate, Assad, uses idioms imperfectly and Carl repeatedly corrects him. Assad’s errors and Morck’s fixes add lightness and comedy to the otherwise murder-ous proceedings.

You’ll be desperate to figure out the identity of the scarred woman as the suspense drives toward a deadly and at times comical conclusion. Just remember, scars aren’t always only skin deep.

WILMINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont man is trying to turn his property into a wildlife refuge for bears.

The Brat t leboro Reformer reports Jim Burke met with the Wilmington Development Review Board on Monday to discuss turning the majority of his 62-acre property into a safe haven for bears and other animals.

Burke says he simply wants the land to provide a safe place for wild-life once him and his wife move. He says there wouldn’t be a fence around the property and no one would feed the animals.

The board says Burke must transfer development rights to an organization to meet zoning ordi-nances for a wildlife refuge.

Officials have advised Burke to consult with his attorney as the pro-posal moves forward.

CLAYTON, N.C. (AP) — A tractor trailer full of vodka has overturned on a North Carolina highway and it may take until happy hour to clean up the mess.

Clayton police said on Twitter that the truck tipped on its side around 5:45 a.m. Thursday on U.S. High-way 70, about 20 miles southeast of Raleigh. A witness helped the driver get out of the cab safely.

Police said the truck was carrying about 40,000 pounds of vodka.

Authorities say the load was so heavy, that when a tow truck tried to turn the truck right side up, the truck’s metal exterior bent. So instead, work-ers are taking the boxes of vodka off one at a time.

Clayton officials say the mess might not be cleaned up and the road reopened until 5 p.m. Thursday.

Changing TimesOnce upon a timewhen postcards cost a penny,a first-class stamp 3 cents and a lonely GI’s letter home was free.

Now, with so many ways tocommunicate will letter writing become obsolete?

Current discussion now underwayconsidering raising first class to 60 cents, no less!

But, don’t get frustrated or feel regretfor old folks like me have the need still to write to a friend or pay a bill.

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — A police officer has come to the rescue of a New Jersey woman who lost her diamond engagement ring on a highway while changing a flat tire.

Police in Paramus said Kimberly Garcia realized when she got home on Sunday that she had lost her ring after pulling over to change the tire.

She went back to the highway that day with police, but they couldn’t find the ring.

For Officer Jon Henderson, the search wasn’t over. He returned to the highway during his free patrol time on Monday and found the ring.

The department posted a photo of Garcia with Henderson, smiling with the ring back on her finger.

NEW YORK (AP) — Producers of the now-closed Broadway musical “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812” are keeping enthusiasm in the show going by opening a place to serve pierogis like the ones made for show attendees.

The New York restaurant is called Samovarchik and is located on the Lower East Side.

The New York Times reports it offers a menu of Russian specialties, including the pierogis made for the musical.

“Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812” served pierogis to audi-ence members at the beginning of the show. The musical is an adaptation of a segment of the novel “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy.

The menu is based on recipes of Lena Gambourg, the mother of producer Roman Gambourg.

“Lie to Me: a Novel” (Mira), by J.T. Ellison

A husband and wife who appear to be happy on the surface expose their reality to the world when the wife leaves behind a cryptic note and runs away with $50,000 in “Lie to Me,” J.T. Ellison’s latest thriller.

Ethan Montclair is battling writ-er’s block, and his author-wife Sutton has been unable to finish her latest book. They are both battling grief after the death of their infant son, and it has been slowly pulling them apart.

When he finds her note and none of her friends know where she is, he begins to believe that she’s gone for good. Since he doesn’t report the inci-dent to the police, it begins to steer suspicion to him. Did Sutton’s anger toward Ethan force her to create an elaborate plot to have him arrested for her death? It would seem so, but then police find the body of a woman in the woods.

Ellison can write compelling sto-ries with characters that aren’t neces-sarily likable but who feel authentic. Both Ethan and Sutton have major

flaws that will force the reader to choose sides in their marriage battle, but that is what makes them seem like real human beings.

While the fireworks and mystery are seemingly straightforward, Elli-son has created an elaborate ruse that will surprise even the savviest thriller aficionado. Comparisons to “Gone Girl” due to the initial story structure are expected, but Ellison has crafted a much better story that will still echo long after the final page is turned.

MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) — Three seal pups that were apparently abandoned by their parents after birth have been released into the waters off Rhode Island.

Officials at Connecticut’s Mystic Aquarium say the three harbor seals named Aster, Azalea and Ivy were released in Charlestown, Rhode Island.

The aquarium says one of the seals was rescued in early May in North Kings-town, Rhode Island. Another was found in Harpswell, Maine, and brought to the aquarium in June. The third was found in East Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and arrived at the aquarium in July.

The aquarium says the three seals are now healthy enough to survive on their own. Each is about 4 to 5 months old and weighs around 50 pounds.
