SRDC Mission Statement to educate members amp encourage participation in the democratic process and in the Democratic Party

It was interesting to hear Beto OrsquoRourke switch in his opening remarks from English to Spanish Short-ly after both Cory Booker and Julian Castro spoke in Spanish as well

Due to the size of the crowd classroom seat-ing was availa-ble along with finger foods

and the usual assortment of beverages All in all a well attended and informed evening

A brief business meeting was held at the begin-ning of the evening Val Hin-shaw 2nd Vice Chair of the Sonoma County Democratic Party presented SRDC Presi-dent Sandy Reynolds with the clubrsquos official Certificate of Charter All clubs must re-charter every two years Well done

In addition based on Assembly Districts elec-tions were held for club members to represent SRDC at pre-endorsement meetings (date and location to be announced) The following members were elected

Our long-time Chef Lori Kunkle has moved to Arizona She returned to Santa Rosa to finish her work and catered this June meeting We thank Lori for all her excellent meals over the many years and wish her a wonderful life in Arizona

A dopt a ldquoHoney Bucketrdquo for the Homeless

Previously Board Member Eileen Bill reported on the current situation with the HUTS for the homeless that

she has been working with and she had put out a plea for donations to continue to help pay for the cost of the port-a-potty that a generous landowner has been providing for the residents of the 6 HUTS that he has allowed on his property

Unfortunately due to some code regulations the City of Santa Rosa would no longer allow people to utilize the HUTS and they were essentially forced back out onto the streets just prior to the winter weather

However the parking lot re-mains as a safe parking spot (which has been ongoing for over 3 years) for those former HUTS users who had a vehicle as well as up to 15 people who also have cars These people continue to utilize the port-a-potty so funds are still needed for that purpose In addition there is a shower bus that serves those un-housed in the area and the landown-er also pays for the water for that usage and has done so for the past 3 years

A deep thank you to those who can continue to sup-port this project and very important service If you would like to contribute you can send checks to the following Peace amp Justice Ctr of So Co (for tax deductible contributions) Please write ―HOMELESS ACTION - SANITATION on the memo line Mail to 467 Sebastopol Rd Santa Rosa 95401

Assembly District 2 Diane McCurdy Tony Negri Amy Pearl Alternates Sabra Briere Ron Taylor

Assembly District 10 George Ferris Sydney Moy Lee Pierce Alternates Gerrit Blom Nanci Hoban

Our long-time Chef Lori Kunkle has moved to Arizona She returned to Santa Rosa to finish her work and catered this June meeting We thank Lori for all her excellent meals over the many years and wish her a wonderful life in Arizona

J une Meeting

Over 160 people attended the June 26th meeting co-hosted by the Sonoma County Demo-

cratic Party This meeting was the first night of the Democratic Presidential Primary Debate held in Mi-ami Florida Thanks to the great work of Alix Shor and Wesley Malespino who ensured the live stream of the debate worked and it did Thanks also to the staff at the Veterans Memorial Building for their kind assistance in ensuring this meeting went off as well as it did

Ten of the Democratic Presidential Candi-dates were on the stage in Miami that night includ-ing

Cory Booker

Julian Castro

Bill de Blasio

John Delaney

Tulsi Gabbard

Jay Inslee

Amy Klobuchar

Beto OrsquoRourke

Tim Ryan

Elizabeth Warren

Each candidate was introduced with Eliza-beth Warren drawing the largest applause from the Miami audience Attendees at the debate watch par-ty were very respectful minimal talking during the debate and truly listening to each candidate It is noted that a few of the candidates did not directly answer the questions and deflected to their own is-sues

Due to the different set up of this event check-in and swag tables were found outside on the East side of the building Ku-

dos to our great vol-unteers

EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORT

As has been reported SRDC co-sponsored with the Sonoma County Democratic Party a Democratic Primary Debate Watch Party in lieu of our regular monthly meeting in June Your board worked diligently with SCDP to ensure this event was well planned and went off smoothly As noted we had over 160 people attend the debate watch party

A number of our members assisted Congressman Mike Thompsonrsquos annual Pasta Dinner event volunteering to help set up and clean up Your participation is most appreciated and was most helpful to ensure a smooth and wonderful evening

David Cahill VP of Membership states we currently have 326 people on SRDCrsquos volunteer list We will need you to become involved during 2019 as we move into the election season for 2020 Californiarsquos primary is now in MarchmdashTuesday March 3 2020mdashwe have a voice in the Democratic Presidential Candidate

At our July 24th event we will have a special button available for a donation of $200 (cash or check) This button was done especially for SRDC in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment passed by Congress in 1919 and ratified by the States in 1920 We

look forward to celebrating this throughout this year and next and trust that many will wear this button proudly in honor of our suffragists

As noted we will have new caterers at our July meeting daughter and mom duo of Nicky and Jean Rutkowski We welcome them and look forward to delicious food

Lots of activities abound during 2019 We look forward to being of service to our community and the Democratic Party as move toward 2020
