ie voorval waarin n bekende inwoner
van Durbanville Vrydag vroegoggend
in sy huis in Vergesig, Durbanville ty-
dens n huisrooftog geskiet is, het inwoners
geskok gelaat.
Dit was moontlik die eerste voorval ng
waarin iemand in n huisrooftog in Durban-
ville geskiet is.
huisrooftogte in woonbuurte aangrensend
aan landelike gebiede veral Aurora en
Vergesig inDurbanville, enOudeWesthof in
Bellville.
Die 52-jarige John-Barry Burger, bekend
opdiedorp enookpresident vandieOnePer-
hulp tekry enhomdadelik daarheengehaas.
keer.

he new instant tree avenue in Voor-
trekker Road in Durbanville is a
R10 million project to upgrade the
Pampoenkraal outspan to a heritage town
square, has already evoked a lot of oohs and
aahs of approval from pedestrians.
TygerBurger visited the street last Thurs-
day to witness how 12 water oak trees were
planted in front of the Silver Creek
Spur restaurant. Pedestrians
made positive comment on the
new look of the street.
Altogether 24 rather grown trees
were planted last week, including
11 Chinese poplars as well as a cor-
al tree. The trees, which were
planted in cavities in the paving,
will be irrigated by an under-
ground bubble system.
The Pampoenkraal outspan is
situated between Voortrekker
Road,MainRoad,WellingtonRoad
and Church Street.
The site, which accommodates
the town hall, has a rich history,
having played an important role in
the development of Durbanville.
The town was originally known as
Pampoenkraal.
This first phase entailed the re-
placement of paving on both sides
of Voortrekker Road, paving of the
road surface, the installation and replace-
ment of services and the installation of tree
planters and irrigation. The second phase
hasnowstartedandwill include the comple-
tion of the main square.
JohanvanderMerwe,Mayco member for
energy, environmental and spatial plan-
ning, said the tender for the construction of
the second phase of the Pampoenkraal up-
grade was advertised in March 2015.
Subsequently, a number of steps were
followed in order to strictly adhere to the
requirements for statutory procedures out-
lined in the Municipal Finance Manage-
ment Act. Mark Darius Civils has been ap-
pointed as themain contractor to undertake
the work, he said.
The contract commenced on 14 January
with a 12-month construction period, Van
der Merwe said. This phase is expected to
be finished by early January next year.
At present the contractor is preparing
the site, which includes site establishment,
locating existing services and earthworks.
Asuitablyqualified landscaping subcon-
tractor will be undertaking all the soft land-
scaping, starting with the tree-planting
along Voortrekker Road, he said.
The overall layout plan is unchanged
and makes provision for all of the elements
agreed to during the public consultation
process. This includes the paving of the site,
tree-planting, various planters and seating
areas, lighting, awater featurewhich utilis-
es water from the original foun-
tain in the area, an amphithea-
tre in front of the town hall, as
well as public art.
More of the existing plants
and mature trees will be re-
tained to enhance the green
quality of the site. The form and
layout of planters have been
amended slightly to provide a
balance between greening and
hard surfacing and to facilitate
pedestrian flows across the site.
The design of the water fea-
ture has been developed further
to ensure functionality and pub-
lic safety, he said.
TheCityhas invitedanumber
of experienced artists with ex-
pertise in public art to submit
proposals for the site.
A panel, comprising officials
from various City departments,
as well as art professionals from
the community, was set up and a preferred
artist has been identified through this proc-
ess.
The proposed concept will be further re-
fined during focused public engagement,
he said.

lik afgekom toe hy haar nie kon vind nie.
Die stuk hout is later in die slaapkamer ge-
vind.
grond grens. Hulle het te voet gevlug met
tweeSamsung-selfone nS5- enS6-selfoon.
Burger is verlede Vrydag geopereer en is
op n ventilator in n koma gehou. Volgens
asemhaal.
afgelope twee, drie maande n toename in
huisrooftogte.
Meer as vyf huisrooftogte is die afgelope
twee maande in die woonbuurte Aurora,
Vergesig en Oude Westhof aangemeld.
Onshet laas in 2013 so baie huisroofvoor-
valle ondervind, waarna dit afgeplat het.
Maar dit het die afgelope paarmaandeweer
opgetel, het hy ges. Volgens Fisher blyk
rewolwer, klapmusse, handskoene, n
breekyster en n boutsnyer, wat onder die
grond begrawe was.
termanskloofpad te stop as afskrikmiddel.
Met elke skof gaan polisiebeamptes tus-
sen 22:00 en 02:00 die tydwaarindiehuisro-
we meestal plaasvind sigbare polisiring
op die Contermanskloofpad doen.
Die polisie beplanookoperasies saammet
die Bothasig- en Milnerton-polisiekantore,
waarin Du Noon val.

hewhole idea of StudyXpresswas
sold to us as that formal schooling
will takeplace, another irate par-
ent toldTygerBurger lastweek after an arti-
cle appeared in which the Study Xpress tu-
tor centre in Durbanville was questioned
(Centre of controversy, TygerBurger 24
February).
My wife is way too keen on going to the
gymnasium and on shopping at Tyger Val-
ley to do home schooling with our children.
There is no way she would have opted for
it. We decided on StudyXpress because we
were promised a better education for our
children, he said.
This father, who wants to remain anony-
mous, was one of several concerned parents
who phoned TygerBurger last week after
the article appeared. Many claimed they
were under the impression that their chil-
dren will receive formal schooling at Study
Xpress.
According to the School Act, home-
schooling must take place primarily at the
childs home, or the centre must register as
an independent schoolwith the department
and adhere to a whole lot of requirements
regarding space, design and facilities.
Many questioned the standard of teach-
ing and the fact that some learners have not
even received their text books for the year,
while most learners are already starting to
write tests this week.
Not registered
This debacle came after two parents, of
which one a former facilitator at the tutor
centre, came forward and claimed the tutor
centre is being run as a school, but not reg-
istered as such with theWestern Cape Edu-
cationDepartment (WCED), andnotmerely
a centre where children, who are home
schooled full-time, get extra help in certain
subjects.
According to this father, another two
teachers resigned onMonday, one of which
his childs teacher. He also said that they
were only told last week to fill in forms to
register their children as being home
schooled with the WCED.
Study Xpress, which opened in January
last year on the corner of De Villiers and
Wellington roads, caters for about 80 chil-
dren from Grade R to matric.
The centre makes use of the private Im-
pak curriculum and is accredited as an Im-
pak centre. The cost for a Grade 10 learner
is around R3200 per month.
The WCED is still investigating the tutor
centre.
According to Paddy Attwell, communica-
tions director at the WCED, learners may
receive specialised support at a tuition cen-
tre, but not full-time tuition.
Attwell said parents must apply to their
nearest district office for permission to
home school their child.
A district official will then visit the
home and will then submit recommenda-
tions to our head office, he said. In terms
of the law, home schooling means exactly
that, namely, schooling at home. Sites that
provide full-time, private tuition outside
the home are defined as independent
schools and have to meet specific require-
ments for this purpose, Attwell said.
Way forward
He said once the investigation is com-
plete, the departmentwill engage in consul-
tation to determine the way forward.
Centres have to meet requirements for
an independent school if they wish to pro-
vide full-time tuition. The department will
remind them of these requirements, as re-
quired. Private schools must teach an ap-
proved curriculum, in premises that meet
specified criteria. The principal and teach-
ersmust be qualified and be registeredwith
the South African Council of Educators,
he said.
He added that tuition centres may help
learners with specific needs, but said they
cannot present themselves as independent
schools if they are not registered as such.
As to the way forward if StudyXpress is
found to contravene the law, Attwell said
the department will negotiate with all con-
cerned to find the most practical solution.
Schoolsmaynot be able to accommodate
the learners at themoment. Parents can ap-
ply to home school their children in this
case, as an interim measure, he said.
It can take up to a month to register the
tutor centre as an independent school, if all
the relevant documents are in place.
Attwell continued and said the Depart-
ment of Basic Education (DBE) was review-
ing its current policy on home schooling,
which will apply nationally.
IvanGrobler,managing director of Study
Xpress, said it must be a misinterpretation
by parents who were under the impression
the tutor centre was run as a school.
On a question by TygerBurger why so
many parents misinterpreted this, he said
he couldnt explain it, as it was made clear.
Grobler admitted that some learnersmay
not have received their text books, but that
it was a problem with the supplier. He said
the learners all have the relevant learning
material needed for the upcoming test se-
ries.

W
hile local ward councillors in
Brackenfell and Kraaifontein la-
ment the general lawlessness of
motorists coupled with a critical shortage
of traffic cops, City authorities rebuff this
correlation.
It is a myth that staff numbers will
change anything about lawlessness on the
roads ... All the enforcement resources in
the world will not eradicate lawlessness.
Yes, visible policing is important, but so
too is public cooperation and regard for the
law ... We have increased the staff signifi-
cantly and almost doubled the number of
traffic fines we issue, but it does not change
the behaviour on the road as only an in-
crease in fine payment rates will influence
that, said JP Smith, Mayco member for
safety and security, in response to a media
enquiry.
When recently discussingmonthly statis-
tics tabled for the month of November 2015,
ward councillors Grant Twigg and Marian
Nieuwoudt were adamant something has
to be done.
Something is wrong. It cannot go on like
this year in and year out, said Twigg dur-
ing a sitting of Subcouncil 2.
Nieuwoudt said serious discussions with
the particular directorate andMaycomem-
ber were necessary.
Specifically referring to taxi violations,
Nieuwoudt said the current lawlessness
will continue for as long as the City experi-
ences a staff shortage.
Traffic official Desr Benadie was pep-
pered with relevant questions.
Benadie retorted by saying they (the traf-
fic department) simply did not have enough
manpower in the northern district to do a
sufficient job. We have 12 patrolling offi-
cers that have to cover three shifts daily.
That leaves us with four officers on the
road per shift for the entire area, which in-
cludes Belhar, Bellville South, Bellville,
Durbanville, Brackenfell andKraaifontein.
Additionally we often have to sacrifice
twoofficers for joint operationswith the po-
lice, such as Fiela, leaving us with only two
officers, she said.
If we had twenty officers or more, we
could be in all the areas every day, but we
cant and this is my frustration.
Smith admitted that the current staff
numbers are inadequate and below the lev-
els they have identified as ideal.
This is the sad reality. Ideally 1200 more
staff are currently required in Metro Po-
lice, Traffic and Law Enforcement, he
said, but added the current number is dra-
matically better than it was in 2006 when
the current administration inherited the
City from the ANC.
Although we have grown the enforce-
ment staff numbers to just below 3000 now,
it should have been 600 or 800 higher, and
we continue to struggle to make up for this
massive setback between 2002 and 2006 un-
der the ANC, he said.
Whilewehave foughtveryhard for addi-
tional budget to appoint extra staff mem-
bers, it should be borne in mind that the
City does not have limitless budget and that
we have to work carefully with the resour-
ces we do have.
We could always do with more resour-
ces, but to suggest that little or no enforce-
ment is happening is grossly untrue. The
facts are that we have added 120 more traf-
fic officers to the budget in this current fi-
nancial year and these staff are currently
being trained and will be deployed over the
next few months.

Parvovirus can be a costly killer
MICHELLE LINNERT
@linnertmb
Y
ou waited your whole life to buy a Rot-
tweiler puppy and when you can final-
ly afford one, it gets parvovirus and
dies within two weeks after you bought it
from the breeder.
This is the scenario involving a disgrun-
tled couple after they bought a puppy from
a breeder who charges R6000 per puppy.
The man got a 50% discount from the
breeder, his colleagues wife, and was able
topickup the longed-forpuppywithinweeks
after its birth, and with only onemore injec-
tion to go.
However, the puppy almost immediately
got gravely ill.
I had incurred costs from the vet when
I rushedmydog to the animal clinic inKenil-
worth after it had developed parvovirus, but
it was already too late. They said they could
try to help him, but chances were that he
wouldnt pull through, said the man, who
asked not to be named.
It would have cost him R15 000, he said, to
have the puppy treated, but he and his wife
decided against this and to rather have the
puppy euthanised, as this was too steep and
the puppys odds to survive were so slim. If
they get this disease, its basically over for
them.
Theman saidwhen they collected the pup-
py, the breeder said it was due for one last
inoculation.
Final vaccination
Whenwe got there, wewere told the dog
still needed its final vaccination. We only
had the dog for twoweeks. Thebreeder fail-
ed to get the third injection.
After the dog died, the couple had a disa-
greement with the breeder, who they said
refused to reimburse them, or allow them
to have a new puppy.
The breeder told us the breed was very
susceptible to this virus and there was
nothing they could have done differently.
Its always been a childhood dreamofmine
to own a Rottweiler. I saved up to buy this
one, he said.
TygerBurger put the question to the staff
at the Tygerberg Animal Hospital (TAH) of
what could have been done to save the pup-
py in this instance, and what others can do
should they suspect the virus in their own
dog.
According to veterinarian Dr Ryan Nor-
rie, they see a lot of darker coloured dogs
being infected with the parvovirus.
We do happen to see a lot ofwhatwe call
blackand tandogs, suchasRottweilers and
German shepherds, but all dogs are suscep-
tible to the virus. Some dogs have a strong-
er immune system than others, he said.
According to him, prices for treatment
vary based on the treatment plan followed
and the number of days a puppy will stay
in isolation a highly sterilised room where
the animal is kept separate from other pa-
tients.
Whenadog or puppy is admitted into isola-
tion, theywill be placed onadrip thatwill con-
tain a number of antibiotics, painmedication,
and a five-course dewormer.
Glucose, proteins and electrolytes are con-
tinuously checked in order to tailor treatment
where needed. If a patient is not improving
with the initial treatment plan, then we will
formulate a new one until we find one that is
accepted, he said.
Norrie added it was vital that the patient is
kept hydrated and fed a big challenge, as
the patient will suffer from diarrhoea and
vomiting.
Forcefed
At this point the patient can be given anti-
nausea and anti-ulcer medication, and is
usually force-fed with new syringes with ev-
ery feed. However, sometimes nasal feeding
with tubes becomes necessary, he said.
TAHwill bathe the patient often and apply
petroleum jelly and baby powder to sensi-
tive areas because of the constant diarrhoea,
with fresh bedding given with every bath.
The isolation ward, equipment, doctors,
nurses and orderlies are constantly being
sprayedwithF10 .We find that extra loveand
TLC can make a difference to a scared and
depressed fur baby. It is very important to
have constant monitoring as you just dont
know with parvovirus!

Durbanville environmentalist and
adventurer has been honoured with
an invitation to accept lifetime mem-
bership of the exclusiveTheExplorersClub
one of the oldest and most respected insti-
tutes for scientific exploration in theworld.
John Lucas, environmental educator, ex-
pedition manager and founder of ex-
plore4knowledge, has been using his pas-
sion for youth development to promote sci-
ence through exploration since 2011 or as
his organisation simply puts it, promoting
its EducationThroughAdventure vision.
Since 2013, Lucas self-funded sponsor-
supported educational projects and expedi-
tions have reached over 15 000 students at
a grass roots level since 2013 promoting
the plight and understanding of critical re-
sources and the importance of fresh water.
Founder of explore4knowledge
Over the years his work has caught the
attention of many prominent business peo-
ple, as well as seen him nominated and the
recipient of various national and interna-
tional awards for innovation in conserva-
tion.
Among others, he had been named the
winner in the eco-youth category of the En-
viropaediaEco-LogicAwards in 2014 for his
work with explore4knowledge, the organi-
sation he founded to promote environmen-
tal awareness among the youth. The latest
feather in his cap is the lifetime member-
ship hewas invited to accept byTheExplor-
ers Club, based in New York city.
For the past 111 yearsmembers of TheEx-
plorers Club have dedicated themselves to
the advancement of field research, scientif-
ic exploration, resource conservation and
the ideal that it is vital to preserve the in-
stinct to explore.
Of their members have included Sir Ed-
mund Hillary (first Everest summit), Neil
Armstrong (first man on the moon) and
Thor Heyerdahl (a Norwegian adventurer
and ethnographer who became notable for
his Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947).
The clubs mission is to inspire explora-
tion and the protection ofwild places from
our backwoods to our oceans, mountain
peaks and distant galaxies while sustain-
ing a spirit of fellowship among explorers
and the scientific community, Lucas says.
Only a handful
I am told there are a mere handful mem-
bers in South Africa and as a 27-year-old it
was apparently quite unique to receive an
invitation for membership, he said.
He is not only honoured to be invited to
become a member of such a prestigious
club, but continues to managed his unique
environmental research and social uplift-
ment expeditions alongside his major part-
ners and sponsors with more information
around their nextmajor expedition to be re-
leased soon.
Lucas and explore4knowledge also man-
age smaller projects such as educational ex-
peditions and learning expeditions for local
schools, tertiary institutions and corporate
companies to not only promote scientific
exploration, but to also fund outreach pro-
jects to schools at a grassroots level through
their syllabus-based science, biology and
geography workshops and programs.
Lucas sense of adventure started at a
young age.He receivedhis SpringbokScout
Award in matric at Fairmont High School
in Durbanville in 2006.
He graduated in Nature Conservation in
2010 at CPUT, followed by a B-Tech degree
in Nature Conservation at Nelson Mandela
Metropolitan University at its George cam-
pus the followingyear. He isnow inhis final
year of his Masters degree in eco-toxicolo-
gy. The subject of his thesis is metal pollu-
tion in fresh water in the Olifants River ba-
sin in the Western Cape.

Ek het Saterdag my eerste

dit was nogal heel lekker.
Net twee voorstelle aan die
organiseerders:
Die toegangsroete is nie baie
gebruikersvriendelik nie. Almal
wat die fees bywoon, ry nie met
viertrekvoertuie nie. Die
plaaspad is nie baie goed vir
gewone motors nie. Ek is
oortuig dat ek nie die enigste
persoon is wat so voel nie.
Daar moet meer sitplek in die
skadu wees. Daar was n groot
tent en verskeie sambrele, maar
dit was nie voldoende nie. Te
veel mense moes in die son
rondstaan en dit was een van
die redes waarom ons vroeg die
fees verlaat het.
Behalwe vir bogenoemde was
dit een van die beter feeste wat
ek bygewoon het.
Ek hoop om volgende jaar nie
weer my motor se onderstel te
beskadig op die plaaspad nie en
dat daar genoeg sitplek in die

bakkie van Amerika afkom-
stig (TygerBurger, 24 Februa-

beskryf, veral as hy nog
springlewendig is. As die
voertuig dan in Amerikaans n
buck key genoem word,
hoekom gebruik hulle dit nie so
in hul taal nie? Hulle praat
deurentyd van n pickup.
Die woord bakkie is n eg
Afrikaanse skepping. Dit kom
waarskynlik uit die boeregele-
dere wat eerste met hierdie
ligter voertuie begin rondry
het. Die bak was die groot

Afrikaans kan
net oorleef as
almal baklei
Dit was my oupa wat jare gelede tydens
rasse-ondertone. Sommige sal s dit is nie
rasgedrewe nie, maar uit hierdie hoek
lyk #whitepeoplemustfall, saamgelees met
#afrikaansmustfall, vir my na niks
anders as rassisme nie.
n Geveg wat begin het met #feesmust-
fall het skielik nou verander in n
rassistiese geplunder wat as #afrikaans-
mustfall vermom word. Al die vuur wat
kamstig oor Afrikaans gespoeg word,
word in die rigting van wit Afrikaans-
sprekendes geslinger. Nrens sien jy n
ou met n t-hemp wat s #bruinouens
moet val nie.
Word bruinmense
se aandeel in die
ontstaan en ontwik-
keling van Afri-
kaans so misken
dat daar nie eens
teen hulle betoog
word nie? Of is die
kamstige nuwe
revolusionre so
oningelig oor die
soetste taal dat
hulle eienaarskap,
en by implikasie
kriminaliteit, net
aan witmense
toedig?
regime?
Of was my oupa reg toe hy s hulle
ongeag velkleur, ewe hard baklei teen
tale. Brenden Ruiter

n
Vrou van Durbanville is ontsteld
dat jong kinders s virmisdaadmis-
bruik word nadat haar handsak by
haar voete by n koffiewinkel in die Tyger-
der op Saterdag 13 Februarie by Vida e Caff
oorkant Woolworths in die sentrum koffie
gedrink.
koffiewinkel gesit en ek het my handsak by
my voete neergesit. Dit was so 16:20 toe ek
besef my handsak is weg.
By haar was n klein
handsaknader getrek.
het by die sentrum uitgestap, my handsak
oor sy skouer, vertel sy.
Haar iPhone is later byGroentemarkplein
Dis skokkend dat mense hul kinders so
misbruik. Watter kans het daardie kind om
normaal groot te word, het sy ges.
Laretha Blom, bemarkingsbestuurder
van die Tygervallei-winkelsentrum, het ge-
s mense moet waaksaam wees ten opsigte
van hul besittings in enige publieke gebied,
veral by oop restaurante.
word.
Maj. Fienie Nimb, woordvoerder van die
Bellville-polisie, het ges mense is gerus en
ontspanne as hulle winkelsentrums besoek
en gevolglikmaklike teikens vir opportunis-
te. Volgens haar is daar gereeld voorvalle
waarin vroue se handsakke uit winkeltrol-
lies of selfs uit diemandjies van kinderstoot-
waentjies gesteel word.
Diefstal waarin kinders betrokke was, is
egternie soalgemeennie. Vrouemoetmaar
heeltyd bewus wees van hul handsakke en
dit nie oor stoele se armleunings hang, of by
hul voeteneersit nie.Daarwasookal gevalle
waar mense se beursies uit hul broeksakke
op die roltrappe gesteel word.

or the first time in a decade, the Paarl
School for the Neurally Disabled in
Brackenfell was not the top performer
in the national Casual Day campaign.
They did however scoop the second place
for 2015, raising a whopping R148 080.
The top performers for the 2015 campaign
were recently announced at a breakfast at
the Table Bay Hotel.
The organisation that raised the most do-
nations for Casual Day in the province was
the Western Cape Association for Persons
with Disabilities (WCAPD) in Milnerton,
raising R183 525.
Cher Botha Special School in Durban-
ville was in third place with R141 740.
Jan Kriel School in Kuils River occupied
the sixth position with R97 000.
Local Cape Town motivational speaker
Shoni Khangala regaled the audience with
personal stories of how his life had been en-
riched by his interaction with persons with
disabilities.
The public added R27 million nationally
to the donations raised by Casual Day over
the past two decades, bringing the national
total collected for 21 years to R249 million.
Sponsored by the Edcon group and sup-
ported by a number of corporates, Casual
Day is the flagship project of the National
Council for Persons with Physical Disabili-
ties in SA (NCPPDSA).
Says project leader Vanessa du Plessis:
We would like to thank all Western Cape
employers who permit their employees to
take part in Casual Day.
It is very interesting to note that employ-
ees who participate in projects like Casual
Day are more positive, motivated and pro-
ductive at work. Doing good as a team gives
employees a feeling of pride and mean-
ing,she further says.
The donations will be distributed to the
following beneficiaries:
The National Council for Persons with
Physical Disabilities in SA, South African
National Council for the Blind, SA Federa-
tion for Mental Health, Deaf Federation of
South Africa, Autism South Africa, Down
Syndrome South Africa, the National Asso-
ciation for Persons with Cerebral Palsy, the
South African National Deaf Association,

Para Association of South Africa, Alzheim-

G
etting the uncon-
trolled breeding of
dogs and cats under
control, is the main aim of
Fisantekraal Animal Wel-
fare (FAW), says spokesper-
son Jennifer Davies.
It is also one of our most
challenging. People make
money out of puppies and
dont care where they end
up. Some still believe the
myth that dogs should have
one litter before being
spayed, which is absolutely
not true.
Others think it is unnat-
ural to sterilise, and many
men seem to feel uncomfortable neutering
male dogs. People dont realise that they are
all actually contributing to their health and
well-being problems, Davies says.
The situation is worsened by people in
nearby suburbs giving their pets to resi-
dents adeplorable act, especially if theyare
not sterilised. There are more than enough
animals al-
ready. We
will not give
up our sterili-
sation pro-
gramme as
we know that
this is the on-
ly way to get
the popula-
tion under
control and
fight animal
neglect and
abuse.
Unhealthy, unvaccinated
animals can carry illnesses
and parasites, such as fleas,
worms, ringworm and ticks.
Ensuring that animals are
vaccinated, free of parasites
and treated for contagious
conditions, is critical to the
health of people, especially
children who are often in
closer contactwithanimals,
Davies says.
FAW is a non-profit orga-
nisation working in Fisante-
kraal, Morning Star, Klip-
heuwel and surrounding
farms.
FAW welcomes volunteers
on Tuesdays and Saturdays between 09:00
and 12:00, and during the week on an ad hoc
basis to help with sterilisations in the town-
ship or for fundraising events, as well as do-
nations of second-handhousehold goods and
clothing, money, pet items like collars, and
food.
Fisantekraal Animal Welfare has several
gorgeous dogs up
for adoption. The
adoption fee for
adult dogs is R550
and includes micro-
chipping, vaccina-
tion, deworming
and sterilisation. A

of Durbanville Primary School.
Isabella Colatruglio has started this com-
munity project at her school last week to
collect water for the farmers and rural com-
munities in drought-stricken areas, partic-
ularly the Free State.
According to her mother, Theresa Cola-

per about the plight of the farmers.
Isabella immediately said she wanted to
collect water for the farmers, her mother
said.
This act of kindness follows on the project

banville Childrens Home in which she and
her siblings, her brotherDominic (GradeR)
and sister Sofia (Grade 4), also took part.
Theymade up party packs for children in
the home in preparatory and primary
school on their birthdays. This project is
still continuing.
Anyone is invited to donate shop-bought
or recycled water in bottles in Isabellas

It must be labelled DW for drinkingwater
or TW for tank or tap water, and brought
to the school, outside the main entrance, on
a Tuesday and a Thursday from 07:00 to
07:50.
All donated water is delivered to the AGS

by Water Shortage SA.
