How to Choose the Right Bathroom Sink

When it comes to a bathroom sink, there are really 8 different kinds. Which may seem a little insane from the previous 2-3 different styles and then from there 1-2 option way back when. But, these days, sinks are about more than just cleanliness. They are about style, about design, about creating a room (even a bathroom) that is yours and has all of those little pops of personality along the way. So if you want to get the same old same old, by all means, get it. But, if you want something different or

unique, there are more options than you probably realize. But, here are the

eight mentioned earlier, as well as pros and cons and what they are suited for in the

bathroom. If you are ready to get the sink of your dreams you should contact a bathroom

remodeling contractor in NJ. Bathroom contractors in New Jersey know all there is

when it comes to choosing the best type of sink for your

space.

Top Mounted Sinks

These are one of the newer options. Essentially most of the sink sits below the counter, but the top part, the rim, sits above the counter. The rim of these units is either going to be slim or chunky depending on what you want. These are going to be able to be used in conjunction with pretty much any material of your counter top that you want, including laminate and wood. These are also less costly than you would think. However, you can’t just wipe spilled water from the counter into the sink because of the rim around the outer edge. These are a good option for a minimalist theme or elegant suites.

Under mount Sinks

These sit underneath the counter. Unlike the option above, there is no lip above the counter, however, there CAN be a lip placed inside the sink, at the top. It still has a very seamless introduction from the counter to the sink though. Less of the sink will be visible in this unit, unless of course you get some sort of a decorative edge (not a lip). Spills can easily and quickly be wiped from the counter to the sink without fail and its essentially one of the most commonly used sinks around, and one of the friendliest in terms of easy to clean bathrooms. One of the biggest negatives to this unit, is that it cannot be used with ANY

material, it cannot be used with laminate for example. Instead you would need a solid surface like stone, wood or PVC counters for using this sink. Surprisingly enough because they are SO common, these ones are more expensive than the option above. Seems like it would be the opposite, but its not. These tend to go really well in bathrooms that see a lot of foot traffic, and bathrooms with families and kids.

Wall Mounted Sinks

These are really cool and can really add some style to a bathroom! This one is directly placed on the wall and it doesn’t need a counter top or cabinets – you can place something under it to look as if it has a vanity, but this is meant to stand as is. The benefits of this sink are that it doesn’t NEED cabinets or counter space – which uses up space of course. On the downside, it doesn’t need cabinets or counter space – which is a great way to add more style and of course store things! You are going to need some sort of a cabinet for all your towels and such so maybe this is something you should think about before the installation. Do you have space for a cabinet? This is a good unit for smaller bathrooms because of course it takes up less space!

Pedestal Sink

Pedestal sinks are very stylish, but they also serve an actual purpose. These sinks are great for people that have a waste pipe that goes through the floor and it cannot be changed. The benefits of a sink like this is that it sits in between the floor and the sink, which will hide the piping, plus it’s also pretty to look at and very classy. On the downside there isn’t any storage for this sink, no cabinets underneath and no option to put one. You also might not like the fact that there is this “stem” in the middle of the room, it might be hard to work around in some cases. But, it’s great for small bathrooms, traditional bathrooms and period era bathrooms because of the aesthetic look of it.

Semi-Cressed Sink

These sinks have a very different look to them, if you are an average person you’ve probably never heard of one let alone seen one. These are a great option for small bathrooms with limited space, but they still allow you to have a vanity

cabinet below the sink for storage. A semi cressed sink will sit at the forefront of your cabinets and the counter top and it allows you to have shallower cabinets – in some of the previous options, such as the second option, the sink will dip down into the cabinet which means you wont have as much space as you originally assumed. With this sink. You won’t have this at all. Not only can you have

shallower cabinets, but this also adds to more floor space – again great for small bathrooms. This is also a popular option in homes where you have a disabled person because they can reach the sink without the cabinets in the way. The negatives are sort of obvious, the vanity will be less deep – only about 12 inches which is much less than a regular cabinet. Also, you wont have the counter to catch

spills and splashes so if you have kids, chances are you are going to get water on the flooring daily.

Wash plane Sinks

These are really neat as well. Often found in hotels and restaurants, it’s essentially a slim streamlined counter and they take up very little space in a room. You can find several different designs, options and sizes. But, they are going to be smaller in width and longer in length. These affix to the wall so you don’t need a cabinet underneath, these also come in various materials like porcelain, ceramic, metal and of course wood.

Vessel Sinks

These are a newer option but they are really pretty and add a certain sense of layering and style to the bathroom that none of these other options can offer. These are sinks that sit ON the counter. That’s right, on the counter – not under, not attached to the wall, not between, but right on the counter. These are really exposed sinks which allow you to add some style to the room. These are like giant bowls that can hold a lot of water, but they also have the usual drainage option as well. These come in various sizes, colors and materials to suit your needs. One of the biggest negatives to this sink though is the cleaning. Sometimes it can be difficult to get around the backside of it.

All in One Sink and Counter Top

Page 4: Types of bathroom sinks

These are superb for small bathrooms because it contains ALL you need in literally one unit. It’s all connected together. On the top you have the sink – different styles and finishes are available. Below that you have a base to hold the faucet into place. Next comes the counter space and attached to the bottom of that is the vanity – but this isn’t just any vanity it’s raised off of the ground. These are great for small bathrooms, minimalistic bathrooms and modern bathrooms. These are very easy to clean and since they are streamlined they are good for any family – sing people, married couples and couples or single people with kids.

So after looking at all of these options available to you, which one looks good to you? Are there any that you would love to see in your bathroom?
