Match reports:
08/09/2012 The Reds paid for a slow start in their opening game of the season.
They were 3-0 down after just 10 minutes and trailed 6-0 at one stage, though
they did finally find their form, getting goals through the Johnson brothers,
Steve and star player Tom, plus an Alex Farrell penalty.
22/09/2012 For the second game in succession, Pennine left themselves with a
mountain to climb after again conceding three early goals, but played better as
the match wore on and actually won the second half 2-1 thanks to an Alex
Farrell and Tom Laidler goal. Ross Denby was star man.
06/10/2012 Luckless Pennine Reds came from 2-0 down to draw level in this
first-round cup-tie against Radcliffe Borough thanks to goals from Tom Laidler
(his last appearance before his move to the Blacks) and Olly Goodwin, only to
concede a late goal and go out of the competition.
13/10/2012 The size of the final scoreline was tough on Pennine who were
simply outmuscled – rather than totally outplayed - by a physical Chadderton
side that was backed by vocal parents and coaches. Again, Pennine failed to
take the few chances they managed to create.
10/11/2012 For the first time this season, the Reds led in a match – twice
through Harrison Davies and Louie Watkinson – only for Radcliffe to level each
time and then score four goals in the second half without reply, leaving
stunned Pennine wondering how they failed to at least earn a point
01/12/2012 Pennine Juniors finally got a long-awaited first win of the season
by thrashing Higher Blackley 9-3 with goals from Max Whittaker (who scored
four and was joint man-of-the-match with Matty Fallon), Louie Watkinson (2),
Alex Farrell (penalty), Harry Blomfield and Harrison Davies.
15/12/2012 The Reds were brought back down to earth after their first victory
a fortnight earlier as they lost 8-0 at leaders Roach Dynamos Oranges – their
second heavy defeat away to the same side this season following the opening-
day 7-3 reversal there. Alex Farrell was the Reds’ MotM.

09/02/2013 Chadderton followed up their 7-0 win at Matthew Moss earlier
this season with another emphatic defeat of Pennine Reds who trailed 4-0 at
half-time. Although they only lost the second half 2-1, the Reds never looked
like getting anything out of the match against their lofty rivals.
16/02/2013 A poor performance from Pennine saw them lose at home to
bottom club Higher Blackley Rebels, whom they had thrashed in December
23/02/2013 Pennine put the previous week’s defeat by Blackley behind them
by booking their place in the quarter-finals of the Under-11s supplementary
cup with a big victory at the home of second division Bury Amateur Blacks,
Harrison Davies and Olly Godwin leading the way with hat-tricks.
02/03/2013 Goalkeeper Joe Hogan was the man-of-the-match as Pennine
recovered from 2-0 down to earn a point against fellow strugglers Roach
Dynamos Blacks. Hogan’s crucial saves and goals from Louie Watkinson and
Harrison Davies in the second half secured a draw for the Reds.
09/03/2013 A week after drawing 2-2 with Roach Dynamos Blacks, Pennine
lost 7-1 to the same team at the same venue. They were unlucky to be trailing
1-0 at half-time, but lacked effort and enthusiasm after the interval to finish
well-beaten, with Louie Watkinson scoring a consolation goal.
16/03/2013 The Red went out of the Cup in the quarter-finals despite being
the better side against Whitworth Valley who are a division above them.
Pennine failed to turn their good football into goals and a late effort from man-
of-the-match Matty Fallon was all they had to show.
15/04/2013 Pennine belied their position at the bottom of the table by giving
second-placed Chadderton Park Griffins a massive scare. They deservedly led
1-0 at half-time but let the game slip in the 15 minutes after the break,
conceding four goals, before getting a late second goal.
20/04/2013 This was another game where the scoreline did not reflect the
balance of play as Pennine lost against the side just above them in the table.
Failure to put their chances away again cost the Reds any chance of getting at
least a point from the match as they ended up losing 4-1.

24/04/2013 Despite deservedly leading 1-0 at half-time against runaway
league leaders Roach Dynamos Oranges, Pennine ended up on the wrong end
of a 6-1 scoreline though they were not helped by some extremely poor
refereeing decisions, including the awarding of a hotly disputed penalty.
27/04/2013 Brett Davies’ boys fell to a second successive 6-1 defeat, though
again the size of the scoreline did not reflect the good football they played at
times. They were the better side in the first half, yet trailed 2-0 at the interval,
and never recovered from two early second-half Radcliffe goals.
04/05/2013 For the second time in a week, Pennine lost at home to Radcliffe
Juniors and the pattern of this match was uncannily similar to the previous
one. The Reds were again two down after a first half which could have gone
either way and once more they could only manage one goal.
09/05/2013 This was Pennine’s third straight defeat at the hands of Radcliffe
Juniors, but it was a match in which they could have got at least a draw,
battling back from 3-0 down to 3-2 only to concede a fourth as they were
pushing forward for that elusive equaliser in wet & windy conditions.
11/05/2013 The Reds finished the season with a well-earned draw at Radcliffe
Borough Bulls – in another game played at times in driving rain – taking the
lead midway through the first half, but they could not find that all-important
second goal and the home side levelled in the second period.
