While our President is away holidaying in France I will be holding the fort. Therefore, you will be seeing me again at the June meeting. Again, our May meeting was very well attended. Our main speaker, Mayurie Gunatilaka, took us through her schooling in Sri Lanka and then Japan to university in New Zealand where she graduated with a Master's degree in science and nuclear physics. She has worked for NWH Global as General Manager Planning and Development Services Australia and New Zealand and is now Senior Manager Transport System Planning for the NZ Transport Agency. Her talk was informative and inspiring and generated some lively discussion. Our Mini speaker needed no introduction. Wally Hirsch told us of phone calls which changed his life. As always Wally was entertaining and a fund of information. He spoke of the call from the Deputy prime Minister asking him to come to Wellington to discuss the role of Race Relations Conciliator and the issues that arose from the role. He then went on to the call which led him, via a university tour guiding programme, to being, together with Adele, our own guide extraordinaire. Wally, you are own treasure. Everyone, keep well and keep those joints moving. Cecilie Rushton Who’s Who for Monday 17 th June 2019 meeting: 9.45 a.m. for 10 a.m. start at St Chad’s Church, 38 St. Johns Road, St Johns 1072.
