Q: How has working at UC given you the opportunity to grow?

A: The people at UC – faculty, staff and students alike – are so incredibly supportive. I started as a secretary in Graduate and Extended Studies in 2009. Then I was promoted to program coordinator for the Office

of Graduate Studies in 2012. I took my current position in June of 2014. Thanks to my supervisors, I was able to take advantage of professional advancement opportunities and get my degree. UC allowed me to develop my career and continue my education.

Q: You recently earned a master’s from UC. What was it like to work for and attend UC at the same time?

A: I think it helped me provide my fellow students with a better experience. I saw both sides of the spectrum, and I could incorporate my experiences in the classroom into work, and vice versa.

Q: Where did your interest in health care administration for your master’s stem from?

A: I wanted to get a master’s at UC because of the unique benefits the college provided. I also wanted to expand upon my background in business, and the health care program offered me the opportunity of leadership development.

Q: How does having completed UC’s graduate program aid you in your current position?

A: It helped me realize my need for developing leadership skills. Getting my masters let me really build upon those crucial skills and gain the experience that helps me in my current position – as well as other aspects of my life – every day. Plus, I know what the students I am helping are going through; I’ve been there.

Q: What does a typical day at UC look like for you?

A: My days are all about collaborating – with students, staff and faculty. Grad students in particular tend to get overwhelmed, and I help them sort through whatever issues they’re having. Most of them are 35 years and older, so they have families and jobs to juggle with school. I try to make things as comfortable for them as possible and connect students to whomever they need.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: When I get to see the students I’ve worked with walk at commencement, and when they thank me, it is amazing. Their families are proud of them, and they are proud of themselves.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: I’ve been a part of Leadership Mohawk Valley since September. The organization was founded in 1990 to encourage the growth and development of effective leaders to the benefit of self, organization and community. I also love working out to de-stress, and I’m on the Health and Wellness Committee here at UC. I’m a big fan of traveling as well. I’m heading to California soon. One of my favorite places is Quebec City. It’s beautiful.
