a special division of the All-American Soap Box Derby that presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate the power of creative thinking

and the pursuit of a worthwhile dream.

At WR-Racing our mission is to develop the “fastest gravity powered race car on the planet” while displaying good

sportsmanship and having fun along the way!

The Ultimate Speed Challenge

In the beginning . . .

• In 1934, the Soap Box Derby was born. Innovation in design and construction were encouraged and rewarded.

• It was a simpler time when boys and their fathers devoted evenings and weekends for many months to building a competitive racer for their local Soap Box Derby.

• Entrants were supposed to do all the work themselves. Dad’s role was that of advisor. And the rules emphasized craftsmanship and good sportsmanship.

• College scholarships and trophies were awarded to the top nine finishers. Chevrolet was a major sponsor and the program was on solid ground.

• Then the Derby program was racked by a scandal in 1973 when the winner admitted to cheating and Chevrolet pulled out of the program.

• With a tarnished image, participation and sponsorships dwindled in numbers for several years. And the Derby fell on lean times.

In the 1970’s changes began to occur . . . The family structure began to change: Both parents now worked fulltime and

the number of single parent families began to rise. Time became a scarce commodity and parents often didn’t have the time or the

energy to devote to a six month project like building a Soap Box Derby racer. Children found they had more choices when it came to choosing activities to

pursue. Parents and kids didn’t want to invest 6 months to build a car only to

experience the “thrill of the hill” for a brief moment on a Saturday afternoon. Society changed and the Soap Box Derby saw the need to change right along

with it. So they came up with a new idea: they decided to sell racer kits that came with

all the needed parts and could be assembled in a couple of afternoons.

Page 4: Ultimate Speed WR Racing Sponsorship Presentation 2010

The idea was really pretty simple:

• All of the cars were the same design. All were easy to build and there was no room for innovation. Parents & children were encouraged to assemble the kits together.

• Three divisions were established: – Stock: for small children, ages 8

to 14– Super Stock: for children ages

10 to 17; and,– Masters: for children at least 10

years old who generally had outgrown the other two divisions

• Youngsters could compete in each division with the winners in each category qualifying to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron as representatives of their local communities.

Or, entrants could choose a different path:

• They could elect to participate in Rallies held each weekend throughout the country and earn points based on how high they placed. Those with enough points would qualify and represent their Rally regions as Champions at the AASBD race.

• But, regardless of the chosen path, the format of today’s Soap Box Derby program is that anyone who can afford the price of a kit can end up with an entry that is extremely competitive “right out of the box” !

But, a unique opportunity is now available for a ‘chosen few’:

• Again for 2010, the AASBD is allowing a marked change from the previous rules.

• They are promoting a unique division that brings back the opportunity to build a car from “scratch”.

• They have decided to reward and encourage innovation.

• They have challenged 21 selected entrants to build a vehicle that will become the “fastest gravity powered race car on the planet”!

For the 2010 season, WR Racing has one simple goal: We want to win the Challenge!

• Our 2009 team consisted of 3 special individuals:– Crew Chief: Paul Workmaster whose job it is to

coordinate the many tasks at hand and turn out a competitive entry. Paul’s 2009 team captured an 9th place finish in the Ultimate Speed Challenge.

– Our Driver: Katelyn Mattix. Kate represented Columbus, Ohio as their Masters Champ in the 2008 All-American Soap Box Derby!

– Our Technician: Gordon Mattix. Gordon’s engineering background and his participation as a Derby Dad for many years with his daughters, made him a valued addition to our team.

. . . and WR Racing plans to be one of the chosen few !

Our design will be eye-catching. It will be innovative and it will be competitive!

Here are some more examples:

And our goal is simple: We want to win the Ultimate Speed Challenge and we want to have fun doing it!

• But to be competitive we need financial support to realize our dream.

• We estimate that the cost of this season of racing will be about $2,500.

• So we are seeking sponsors and we believe that the benefits to the sponsors will far outweigh their costs.

As a key sponsor of WR Racing you can expect to enjoy the following benefits:

• Positive visual publicity during race week in Akron to thousands who may visit the track to watch the race, read newspaper articles in the Akron Beacon Journal or see news coverage of the event on TV.

• A prominent place on our team’s website: www.wr-racing.com with a link to your firm’s webpage.

• The opportunity for even greater publicity if our entry wins the Ultimate Speed Challenge or receives the Innovation Award.

• You can help our team to achieve a dream that lets others see what can be accomplished when committed people with vision pool their talents and work together toward a common goal.

• The opportunity to have some fun and relive a part of your youth through us !

WR Racing is seeking sponsorships at 3 levels:

Platinum: $ 2,000 : You will be the featured sponsor of the racer with your company logo being the one most prominently displayed on both sides of the racer. You will also benefit from recognition on our team website: www.wr-racing.com plus you will get recognition on any team apparel.

Gold: $ 1,000 : Gold sponsors will have their name and logo displayed to a lesser degree than a Platinum sponsor on both sides of the racer, as well as having a place of prominence on our team website and any team apparel.

Silver: $ 500 : Silver sponsors will be recognized with smaller logos or

vinyl lettering on both sides of the racer.

What level of sponsorship works best for you ?
