Ice Breaker Activity This is a do-it-yourself ice-breaker. We want you to meet and interact with as many other people as possible. You have approximately 7 minutes from the time the

first whistle is blown to mingle and chat with the other participants.

Until the second whistle is blown, you are on your own.

we will be incorporating 20 anchor standards

of the common core into our current

curriculums. 10 standards= reading informational text 10 standards= writing

How do WE do this?

A large part of the initiative is to incorporate informational text reading strategies. We want to ensure that

students are using the correct strategies to read these texts.

Reading Informational Texts

Informational Text Activity Each person will get a copy of informational

text to read. Your table group will have the same text as you.

Informational Text Activity Write a summary of what you have just read.

Informational Text Activity Discuss the article within your table groups. What did you find challenging about reading

this article? What was the article about? Choose a person from your table to share

what the reading was about and what you found difficult about reading this type of article.

Read through the 10 READING anchor standards.

Put a √ by the anchor standards that you used in your reading process.
