2nd Notice of Pooled Testing @ UES- At this time we have 22 people signed up for the weekly Pooled Testing opportunity.

For those parents wishing to have their child participate in Pooled Testing please complete the online consent form or submit a hard copy consent form (full form was in last week’s newsletter) to the school office by Wednesday, October 15th. A link to this online consent form can be found here. The link can also be found on our school’s website. A school access code is required to complete this form. It is UES123. At this time UES is hoping to implement Pooled Testing for consenting staff and students Tuesday, October 26.

What is Pooled Testing? Pooled testing is a preventative measure that allows schools to trace low levels of COVID infection prior to the infectious stage. This ability allows schools to essentially head off exposures and outbreaks at the classroom/grade level. It also allows for close contacts within a pool to avoid having to quarantine unless they have symptoms themselves. This pooled testing opportunity is also available to all staff members.

• Pooled testing is noninvasive: the swab only circles the inside of the lower nostrils.

• Students self-swab. • The test only takes a few minutes of classroom time. • Pooled testing is for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. • Individuals using pooled testing are able to AVOID QUARANTINE if identified

as a close contact, unless they are symptomatic. • Participation allows a student to continue in after school activities and athletics.

What is BinaxNOW Testing? BinaxNOW testing allows for an in-school follow-up test if a student is part of a positive pool sample.

• BinaxNOW testing is noninvasive: the swab only circles the inside of the lower nostrils.

• Students self-swab. • The test takes 5 to 15 minutes to process. • Assistance with preparing the sample is provided by school staff. • BinaxNOW is for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. • Negative students who are well enough to return to class may do so. Positive

students will wait in the isolation room for dismissal to parents/guardians.

Children’s Memorial Book Lending LibraryPeople’s United Methodist Church, at 21 Depot Street Union, now has a children’s

memorial book lending library outside the sanctuary entrance. The books in the liDle house built by brothers Harold Wentworth Jr. and Jody Wentworth are for all children to enjoy.

The funds for this children’s lending library come from a bequest from the will of Ruth (McKinley) Herridge. Ruth grew up on Depot Street in Union and PUMC was an integral part of Ruth’s childhood and early teen years. In her adulthood, Ruth became a teacher and an editor of the Third-grade ediQon of The Wesleyan University Press’s “My Weekly Reader”.

The church formed a commiDee to plan for the use of the bequest funds which specified to be spent for children’s ministry. The work of the commiDee resulted in this beauQful children’s lending library. Families are encouraged to come to bring their children to the new lending library.

The picture shows two of our church school children discovering books in the liDle house for children’s books.
