Gerunds 

Gerunds are –ing nouns, we can add –ing to verbs to make the –ing nouns. These nouns refer to actions and activities:

A: Gerunds as subjects ：

⑴ As objects of some transitive verbs ：

eg ： advise, delay, escape, excuse, enjoy, consider, finish, deny, keep, mind, pardon, practise, suggest, imagine, need, want, require and so on：

B: Gerunds as objects ：

1.Would you mind opening the door ？ 请你把门打开好吗？2.Mary enjoys cooking very much. 玛丽非常喜欢烹调。3.Have you finished reading? 你完成你的诵读了吗？4.Do you need washing your head? 你需要洗头吗？

  ⑵ As objects of prepositions ：

He left without saying goodbye to us. 他没有和我们道别就离开了。

He is busy with trainning his new students these days.

这些天他忙着训练自己的新学员。

My favorite pastime is playing chess. 我最大的业余爱好是下棋。

Two people are talking about rules for a concert. Work in pairs. S1 has never been to a concert. S1 asks questions using the pictures. S2 answers, turning the verbs into gerunds. Following the example.

2. Clapping before the end of a concert is a bad idea.

3. Wearing a hat during a concert is inappropriate.
