A smiling curve is an illustration of value-

adding potentials of different components of

the value chain in an IT-related

manufacturing industry. The concept was

first proposed by Stan Shih, the founder of

Acer, an IT company headquartered in

Taiwan, around 1992.

According to Shih‘s observation, in the personal

computer industry, both ends of the value chain

command higher values added to the product than the

middle part of the value chain. If this phenomenon is

presented in a graph with a Y-axis for value-added 附加值 and an X-axis for value chain (stage of production),

the resulting curve appears like a "smile".

Asset-light strategy 轻资产模式 所谓“轻资产”模式,就是将产品制造和零售分销业务

外包,自身则集中于设计开发和市场推广等业务; 市场推广主要采用产品明星代言 celebrity endorsement

和广告的方式。 这种模式可以降低公司资本投入,特别是生产领域内的

大量固定资产投入,以此提高资本回报率 (rate of return) 。

业务外包( 0utsourcing ),企业为了获得比单纯利用内部资源更多的竞争优势,将其非核心业务交由合作企业完成。

OEM( Original Equipment Manufacturer ) 指的就是贴牌生产,也就是代工厂。

Nike 的 OEM厂就是公司指定的代工厂,生产的产品打 Nike商标,进入 Nike柜台销售。质量和原厂差不多,只是原厂给的外包任务。

recruitment using electronic resources, in particular the internet.

Companies and recruitment agents have moved much of their

recruitment process online so as to improve the speed by which

candidates can be matched with vacancies. Using database

technologies, and online job advertising boards and search

engines, employers can now fill posts in a small part of the time.

Using an online e-Recruitment system will save the employer

time.
