LUKE 15:1132Concept: God in Your Home

for

THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: One of the clearest messages in the Bible is that God is our Father, but to some, that does not sound like good news. Our experience with our dad shapes how we see God as Father. Jesus told a story that can change our idea of what a father should be. God as Father gives us the hope of a second chance.

LUKE 15:1132

THE POINT: God welcomes us because of His love for us.• Tell your student about someone you

trust to be there for you.• Ask your student how you can better

be there for them.Have a conversation around this quote: “If you have been reduced to God being your only hope, You are in a good place.”1 —Jim La! oon

http://www.fuelforfaith.comLIVE IT OUT: Your student has been encouraged to do one or both Live It Out activities in the Personal Study Guide. If your student chooses to do Come Home:

• Ask your student if there is a specifi c area you can be praying for in his or her life.

• Pray this week that your student will be able to surrender every area of life to Christ.

If your student chooses to do Reach Out:

• Ask your student if there is any way you can help him or her reach out to someone who needs to return to God.

• Encourage your student as he or she seeks to reach out to someone for the sake of the gospel.

LUKE 15:1132

Jesus often told stories to teach

people. One day he told this story:

“Father, give me my share of the

family money,” the younger son

said. He took the money and

moved away. He spent his money

foolishly. Soon he had nothing,

not even food, so he took a job

feeding pigs. He was so hungry that

he wanted to eat the pigs’ food.

Finally, he decided to go home and

ask his father to let him work as a

servant. When the father saw his

son, he ran to hug him. The father

said, “Put the best robe, a ring, and

sandals on him! Let’s celebrate! My

son has come home!” The older

son was jealous that his brother

was welcomed back with a party.

The father encouraged the older

brother to be happy.

LIVE IT OUT: As a family, talk

about the meaning of the word

forgiveness. Talk about times when each person has needed to

forgive someone.

LUKE 15:1132

Jesus often used stories to teach

about God’s love. He told a parable

about a father and two sons. Jesus

said, “A man had two grown sons.

The younger son said, ‘Give me my

share of the family money.’ Soon

the son had spent all of his money.

He had no food. Finally a man gave

him work feeding pigs. The son

thought about eating the pigs’ food.

He thought about his father’s house

where there was food to eat. He

decided to go home. The son was

far from the house when his father

saw him. The father ran to hug and

kiss him. The son said, ‘Father, I have

done wrong. I do not deserve to be

your son.’ But the father threw a big

celebration to welcome him home.”

LIVE IT OUT: As a family, review

sign language for “God loves me”

(one fi nger pointing up to God/arms

crossing chest/pointing to self).

During the week, when two

family members see each

other for any reason, see

who can remember fi rst to sign “God loves me!”

Concept: Spend Wisely

for

THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Being responsible for what God has entrusted us with isn’t always easy and spending money wisely can be a challenge. But God’s purpose for our fi nances is greater than just meeting our needs. How we spend what we have can speak volumes about our relationship with Jesus. The Bible calls us into a wise plan for giving, a course of action that can make us all better stewards of our money.

2 CORINTHIANS 8:1015; 9:15

THE POINT: Be ready to give as the need arises.• Discuss budgeting with your student.

Talk about your strengths and weaknesses in budgeting and fi nances.

Have a conversation around this quote: “The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.”1

—William JamesThe Thought and Character of William James,

LIVE IT OUT: Your student has been encouraged to do one or both Live It Out activities in the Personal Study Guide.

If your student chooses to do Good Stewardship:

• Work with your student as he or she develops a budget.

• O! er your student the chance to give input on the budget decisions you make for the whole family.

If your student chooses to do Adopt a Need:

• Ask your student what he or she is thinking about adopting as a need to meet.

• Determine to help your student be consistent in the commitment he or she has made.

EXODUS 36:139:31

The people God had given ability

came to work. Moses gave them the

o! erings the people brought.

The people kept bringing o! erings

to the workers. Soon the people

had brought so many o! erings that

Moses had to tell them to stop.

The workers used the fabric and

yarn to make special curtains.

Workers made the golden box

called the ark. They made a table, a

lampstand, and altars. They made

special clothing for the priests. The

clothes even had real jewels!

Finally, everything was ready. Now

the tabernacle could be built.

LIVE IT OUT: Kids can be part of the

fi nancial investment of building or

maintaining their church facilities.

Create a special bank for family

members to contribute money

that will be given to the church to

help pay for or help maintain the

church’s buildings.

EXODUS 35:435

God spoke to Moses. “I want you

to build a tabernacle where My

people can worship Me. Take an

o! ering from all of the people. Tell

them what to bring.” Moses spoke

to the people. He said, “We must

bring o! erings to help build the

tabernacle.” Moses told the people

what to bring. The people listened

to Moses. Some brought all kinds of

gold, silver, and gemstones. Some

brought red, blue, and purple yarn;

fi ne linen; and animal skins. Others

brought wood, oil, and spices. Every

part of the o! ering was needed for

building the tabernacle. God chose

craftsmen who could work with

all the materials the people had

brought. They would design and

make everything for the tabernacle.

LIVE IT OUT: Choose a simple recipe

for a favorite treat (such as trail mix).

Assign each child the responsibility

of adding an ingredient to the bowl.

Talk about how important each item

is to making the recipe taste good

and how you are working together

to build the snack. Remind your

child that the people in the Bible

worked together to build the

tabernacle.
