Languagevariation

In formal English, when we talk about unreal conditions, we use were with I, he, she, and it (“If I were”, “If she were”, etc.). But in colloquial English, we can use was. Example: “If I was a better man/ Would fellow men take me to their hearts?” (from the song “If I was”, by Midge Ure).
